HONG KONG, May 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited ('NetDragon' or the 'Company'; Hong Kong Stock Code: 0777), a global leader in building internet communities, is pleased to announce the official launch of the MHESI Skill platform (www.mhesi-skill.org), an AI education platform co-developed with Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation ('MHESI') based on NetDragon's edalearning.ai. This platform serves as a key initiative under MHESI's recently launched 'EV Ready+' electric vehicle ('EV') industry talent development program, offering free, certified training to equip Thai citizens with real-world skills and enhance career prospects in the EV sector.
The MHESI Skill platform will offer a suite of EV-focused training programs, initially launching with two fundamental courses — Basic Electric Vehicle Technology Course and Electric Vehicle Maintenance Course. These will be followed by three additional courses covering EV System Design and Development, EV Infrastructure and Charging Systems, and EV Business Management. All courses will be free of charge and include an official e-Certificate issued by MHESI upon completion.
All 'EV Ready+' courses will be delivered in a hybrid 'online + offline' learning format, combining self-paced online theory modules on the MHESI Skill platform with hands-on practical training at partner universities, including Bangkok Thonburi University and King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (Rayong Campus). MHESI also plans to expand practical training sites to other regions nationwide, ensuring equal access to learners across the country.

Thai Airways partners with airlines to boost US tourism, drops direct flight plans
BANGKOK: Thai Airways International (THAI) has reaffirmed its readiness to attract American tourists to Thailand through collaboration with airline partners, despite shelving plans for direct flights to the United States. THAI CEO Chai Eamsiri explained that the Federal Aviation Administration has recently upgraded Thailand's aviation safety rating from Category 2 (CAT2) to Category 1 (CAT1), placing it among countries that meet international aviation standards. As a result, Thai airlines are once again permitted to operate direct flights to US airspace. However, after conducting a feasibility study on resuming direct flights to the United States, THAI found the long-haul routes to be economically unviable due to the substantial fuel costs involved. Additionally, return flights from the US would require a reduction of more than 100 passenger seats, while cargo transport would be severely restricted due to fuel constraints limiting payload capacity. "From past flight data, THAI operated in the US market for over a decade, but consistently recorded losses. Even after adjusting strategies, including stopovers, profitability remained elusive,' he said. 'The long distances to destinations like Los Angeles and New York—requiring 17-hour flights—result in high operational costs. Today, after reassessment, we concluded that resuming direct flights would remain financially impractical." Chai further noted that despite direct flights being discontinued, THAI still maintains a presence in the American market. Currently, 30 per cent of its revenue comes from European travellers, followed by Asia, while the US market remains promising. China and Thailand boost strategic ties with new military cooperation plans
Senior military officials from China and Thailand reached an 'important consensus' on strategic cooperation when they met on Thursday, according to the defence ministry in Beijing. The meeting was held between China's chief of joint staff, Liu Zhenli, and Thailand's top defence official, Songwit Noonpackdee, during his visit to the Chinese capital. The two military leaders 'reached an important consensus on strengthening strategic communication and deepening cooperation in joint exercises and training', according to a statement on Thursday. They also 'exchanged views on issues of common concern, such as relations between the two countries and their militaries and the international and regional situation'. Liu is a member of the Central Military Commission, the highest decision-making body of the People's Liberation Army. In a separate meeting with Songwit, Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun said ties between the two countries had endured 'the change of winds and clouds'. Songwit replied that the Thai side was willing to closely coordinate with China in multilateral affairs and 'jointly safeguard' the security and stability of the region, according to the Chinese defence ministry. The high-level meetings followed a series of diplomatic activities between China and the Southeast Asian country, which is also a traditional US ally in the region. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Thai counterpart last month and said Thailand was a high priority for Chinese diplomacy in the region. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra also met in February. The two countries have also deepened defence cooperation in the past decade, especially since the 2014 military coup in Thailand, with China replacing the US to become Thailand's top arms supplier. Their joint exercises have appeared to include more comprehensive combat elements since last year, as highlighted by their joint air drill, 'Falcon Strike 2024'. Most recently, the navies of the two countries concluded an exercise last month that focused on counterterrorism tactics and anti-submarine warfare. While joint exercises and arms sales between the US and Thailand have been scaled back, Washington has ramped up its strategic and defence dialogue with Bangkok in the past few years as Beijing's influence has expanded in the region. Thailand has imported a range of weapon systems from China, from armoured vehicles to air-defence systems. The two countries signed a deal in 2017 for Thailand to buy the first of three Yuan-class submarines from China for 13.5 billion baht (US$412 million). Bangkok has paid an instalment of 7 billion baht, but production has been stalled since 2022 due to China's inability to acquire a German engine because of Berlin's defence export limits. According to news site Khaosod English, Thai Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said on Tuesday that he would decide by the end of this month whether to accept the submarine with Chinese engines or cancel the contract and lose '80 per cent of the costs of the submarines which has already been paid'. Citing Wechayachai, the Thai news site also reported that the Thai government had been asked several times by the Chinese ambassador to Bangkok about when it would proceed with the remaining payment for the purchase of the Chinese-made submarines. Bangkok had previously asked Berlin to reconsider the embargo of its submarine engine, but Germany has rejected the request.

Myanmar, Thai firm sign exploration deal for Mottama offshore block Min Ye Thu project
YANGON: On May 29, the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise under the Ministry of Energy, and Gulf Petroleum Myanmar Co., Ltd., a Myanmar-based Thai-owned company, signed a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) to explore, drill, produce and exploit oil and gas in Mottama offshore block (M-10) (Min Ye Thu project) at the office of the Ministry of Energy, Nay Pyi Taw. The ceremony was attended by Union Minister, Deputy Minister, Director General of the Union Cabinet, Directors General and Managing Directors of Departments, Heads of Departments, and officials from Gulf Petroleum Myanmar Co., Ltd. Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin said that the Ministry of Energy is committed to exploring, drilling, producing and exploiting oil and gas in order to meet the country's energy needs and increase national revenue. We are continuously working to increase production," he said. "Most countries in the world still rely on natural gas, which is a clean energy source." The demand for natural gas has increased significantly, he added. "Our country has sufficient natural gas reserves and needs to systematically extract and use them. The current large offshore projects are naturally decreasing in production and the completion of the projects is approaching." Therefore, Myanmar plans to explore, drill and produce oil and natural gas in blocks with good potential. The Mottama Offshore Block M-10 will provide benefits such as increased investment in oil and natural gas exploration, drilling and production, increased foreign exchange earnings, creation of local job opportunities, and meeting the domestic demand for oil and natural gas from one source, he predicted. He urged the respective parties to work hard to achieve the project target of producing first natural gas by 2028, and thanked all the related ministries, staff from Gulf Petroleum Myanmar Co., Ltd. and the Ministry of Energy for their cooperation in signing the contract. The state currently has four major offshore projects, namely Yadana, Yetagun, Zawtika, and Shwe, which are currently exploring, drilling, and producing oil and natural gas, and two more offshore projects that are currently exploring, drilling, and producing. There are a total of six major offshore projects, so the Mottama Offshore Block M-10 is the seventh major offshore project of the country and the first offshore project to be implemented under the State Administration Council. - Eleven Media/ANN
