Apple Sports App Adds Formula 1 Support Ahead of Australian Grand Prix

On the heels of adding NASCAR support ahead of the opening race at Daytona last month, Apple has now added Formula 1 coverage to version 2.6 of its native Apple Sports app.
The new F1 support means Apple users in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada can keep up with the Formula 1 season, both inside the Apple Sports app and through Live Activity widgets. The changelog for Apple's March 11 Apple Sports update says F1 fans will get access to info such as live leaderboards and lap times.
Although Apple hasn't shown off exactly what the Live Activities for the F1 races will look like, if the NASCAR implementation is anything to go by, Live Activities will showcase portraits of drivers in first, second, and third position with live interval delta data highlighted between each of the three spots. Lap count and flag information was also visible throughout the race, making it easy to keep tabs on race progress directly from your lockscreen or homescreen.
As noted by MacRumors, Apple continues to show interest in F1. In addition to Apple CEO Tim Cook waving the checkered flag at the 2022 United States Grand Prix, the company has also filmed an Apple Original Film starring Brad Pitt. Multiple races throughout the 2024 season served as backdrops for the upcoming film. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, director of Top Gun: Maverick, the film will follow the fictional story of the 'APXGP' Formula 1 team as Pitt and his co-star Damson Idris battle it out on-track.
While we'll have to wait until June 27, 2025, for the premiere of the new Formula 1 film, you can test out the latest F1 support in Apple Sports this weekend, where the 2025 season will kick off with the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne, Victoria.

Brad Pitt Reveals His 1 Condition for Doing a Tom Cruise Movie
Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt haven't shared the silver screen since their 1994 film "Interview with the Vampire." However, it's possible they join forces for another collaboration. During a presentation at CinemaCon in April, Cruise raved about Pitt's upcoming film, "F1." Not only did he say he'll be there opening weekend to watch it, he revealed that he and Pitt used to race go-karts. "Brad's got a new movie 'F1' with Jerry Bruckheimer and Joe Kosinski. I can't wait to see that this summer. I'll be there opening weekend. It'll be awesome," Cruise said. "It's great to see Brad driving. He's a very good driver. Believe me, I've raced against him. When we were doing 'Interview with the Vampire,' we'd go and race go-karts. We'd literally finish and go drive go-karts all night." While at the Mexico City premiere for "F1" on Monday, Pitt responded to Cruise's encouraging words. "He's sweet," Pitt said. "We did have our go-kart days in the early 90s." Pitt then made it known that he's more than willing to work with Cruise again under one condition. The "F1" actor refuses to do any wild stunts that we've seen Cruise perform over the past few years.
