Meryl Streep and boyfriend Martin Short share passionate kiss on set amid years of romance speculation
Meryl Streep and Martin Short were spotted sharing a passionate kiss as they filmed scenes for Only Murders in the Building on Wednesday.
The Hollywood icons — who portray lovebirds Loretta Durkin and Oliver Putnam on the Hulu hit — fueled real-life romance rumors after being spotted together several times in early 2024.
The Oscar-winning actress and the SNL alum, both 75, even held hands publicly at a promotional event for the show last August.
Streep and Short could be seen falling into an embrace and locking lips while standing closely together on a sidewalk in the bustling city.
The stars were later spotted sharing a laugh in between takes and also soaked up the warm sunshine as the crew set up for another scene.
In March, Page Six reported that the pair have been quietly dating for 'well over a year,' citing a source who said the romance 'took them by surprise.'

The insider claimed neither was seeking a relationship at the time—but their connection quickly turned romantic.
Now, art is mirroring life as the couple was also seen filming a playful scene, sprinting down a New York sidewalk with Oliver waving a banana in hand for Season 5.
Dressed incognito in an oversized overcoat, fedora, and dark sunglasses, Meryl looked every bit the undercover sleuth—clearly in character and clearly up to something.
The Oscar winner's disguise screamed mystery, as if Loretta Durkin was hot on the trail of a juicy new clue.
Short's Oliver Putnam matched her energy in a dramatic overcoat of his own, styled over a royal blue suit—and, naturally, clutching a peeled banana like it was a top-secret prop.
Despite their combined decades in showbiz, the duo showed no signs of slowing down as they dashed through the city streets.
At one point, Meryl even sprinted ahead with ease, while Martin comically lagged behind, making a valiant—and hilarious—effort to keep up.
Their playful chemistry only added fuel to the real-life romance rumors that continue to swirl around the beloved co-stars.

The set snaps comes after Short's Only Murders in the Building co-star Selena Gomez posted an adorable carousel of photos with Steve Martin, 79, and Short.
Since 2021, the trio has portrayed quirky neighbors in a posh New York apartment building who start a true crime podcast and find themselves entangled in a string of suspicious murders.
The hit Hulu series has earned critical acclaim, a devoted fanbase, and a rotating cast of A-list guest stars (Streep).
Now, as production begins on season 5, Selena marked the milestone with some fun snaps and her signature wit.
In the photos, Martin and Short are seen goofing off in a car, while Selena sits in the passenger seat, dramatically rolling her eyes at their antics.
'5 years and counting with these knuckle heads @onlymurdershulu,' she captioned the three photos.
Back in August, when Streep and Short held hands, a representative for Streep said they were 'just friends.'
However, insiders later disclosed to DailyMail.com that a romance did blossom on set of OMITB.
'Meryl and Martin denied their romantic involvement months ago,' the insider noted.
'They are the worst kept secret of the entire production. No one really asks them anything because they don't need to,' it was added.
Romance rumors began not long after Meryl's separation from husband Don Gummer was revealed.
The pair initially tied the knot in 1978 and share four children: Henry, 45, Mamie, 41, Grace, 38, and Louisa Jacobson, 33, before announcing they had been split since 2017 in October 2023.
'Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,' a statement shared with Page Six said.
Short, meanwhile, lost his wife Nancy Dolman to cancer in 2010 after three decades of marriage.
They have three children together - Katherine, 41, Oliver, 38, and Henry, 35.
Martin previously told AARP that she's still with him and their three children 'all the time.'
'Our marriage was a triumph,' he told the publication in 2019. 'So it's tough.'
'She died in 2010, but I still communicate with her all the time,' the Father of the Bride star said.

'It's 'Hey, Nan,' you know? How would she react to this decision or that, especially regarding our three kids,' Martin explained.
Since the passing of Nancy, Martin said that he was never one of those people who thought that meant the end.
'I believe that when people die, they zoom into the people that love them. This idea that it just ends, and don't speak of them — that's wrong,' Short said.
Adding: 'That's based on denial that we're all going to die. So to me, she's still here.'
Later on Wednesday, Martin was joined by co-star Selena Gomez on set and the pair also shot a scene together.
The former Disney channel actress put on a stylish display wearing a blue turtleneck as well as a black leather dress.
She additionally slipped into a pair of black tights as well as heeled ankle boots to complete the look.
Gomez carried a large tote bag in her hand as she made her way to the set and sported a pair of stylish black shades.
Selena later layered the ensemble with an eye-catching blue coat as she strolled across a street in Queen, New York.
The actress opted for minimal accessories and wore a pair of flashy silver-hooped earrings
Steve Martin also joined the duo while wearing a dark blue suit as well as a vibrant blue dress shirt and sneakers

At the table, we enjoyed a menu of dishes, emotional speeches, and exchanged vows. Then we danced the entire night.' The Louisiana-born brothers beamed while being supported at the family function by their mother, Constance. Guests also included Miss Universe host Olivia Culpo and her NFL husband Christian McCaffrey as well as Iddo Goldberg, Stephanie Suganami, and Ashley Madekwe. Brian Austin Green's fiancee reveals if they've met his ex Megan Fox's newborn baby
While opening up about their blended family, Brian Austin Green's fiancee Sharna Burgess revealed that they've met his ex-wife Megan Fox 's newborn baby. Fox, 39, welcomed a daughter with ex-boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly, 35, in March of this year. The Transformers beauty also has three kids — Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, eight — with ex-husband Green, 51, who she split from in 2020 after 10 years of marriage. Sharna, 39 — who shares son Zane, three, with Brian — gushed to PEOPLE on Wednesday that Fox and MGK's baby girl is the 'absolute cutest thing.' She also revealed that Zane has 'fallen in love' with his three-month-old baby sister. 'Of course he's met her — that's his baby sister,' Burgess told People. 'They're deeply in love. She is the absolute cutest thing, and it's really beautiful.' 'We have such a big family,' Burgess continued. 'When I was a kid, and even when I was manifesting my life, I wanted a big family. 'And then I got to a point where I thought, 'Maybe I'll only get to have one baby because of age, ovaries, you know, all the things.' 'But somehow the universe still provided this unbelievably big family and tribe with amazing kids in it.' The former Dancing with the Stars pro gushed that her little one is growing up surrounded by love. 'He has such a big, beautiful tribe around him, and it's really cool,' the proud mom reflected. She added, 'We're all so very lucky. The kids are amazing and they've become built-in babysitters. The age gap actually works really well. We're thrilled.' Sharna also revealed that she and her husband-to-be are even considering expanding their brood with another child. 'We've talked about getting pregnant at some point next year,' she told the publication. 'I like the idea of an age gap of around four to five years between siblings, so hopefully we can make that happen.' Green previously had a vasectomy to relieve Burgess from the side effects of birth control. 'He was amazing,' she said. 'He knew that birth control made me feel crazy, so he said, "Let me handle it." He got a vasectomy, but we always knew we could do IVF or freeze sperm. 'It was never "no more babies." It was just about protecting my health. So yes, IVF is most likely the route we'll take.' Weeks ago Megan shared a video from Instagram fan account @ which showed her in a plaid mini skirt and cropped blue cardigan. The snippets were from her guest role in the Prime TV series Overcompensating. She spilled that she was pregnant in the scene, writing, '38 years old. six weeks pregnant (unplanned but a happy surprise).' 'Please stop listening to the patriarchy,' she urged her 21.5 million followers. 'Women are eternal light beings. We do not have an expiration date. Don't let them rob you of your power.' In addition to their newborn, MGK is also dad to 15-year-old daughter Casie. The birth of Megan and the rapper's daughter came months after the exes split for a final time. Their late 2024 breakup was reportedly due to Fox finding 'upsetting material' on the rock star's phone during a Colorado vacation.

Trump both booed and cheered attending Les Misérables at Kennedy Center
President Donald Trump was greeted with boos, as well as cheers, and chants of 'USA!' as he took his seat for the opening night of Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday. It's the first time Trump has attended a show at the venue since he fired the Kennedy Center's leadership, putting MAGA loyalist Richard Grenell in charge of the famed performing arts institution and naming himself chairman of the board. He promised to scrap 'woke' programming that aligned with what he called leftist ideology, which includes drag shows and 'anti-American propaganda,' the president wrote on Truth Social. The move upset some of the center's patrons and performers, and it was reported that several cast members planned to skip the show in protest of his attendance on Wednesday. When one group of ticket holders found out that Trump, Vance and their wives, Melania and Usha, would be in attendance, they donated their tickets to a group of drag performers, according to Qommittee, as reported by Houston Public Media. Videos posted on social media show the drag performers being cheered before Trump arrived. Other videos showed the president taking his seat to a combination of boos and cheers from the audience. When Trump walked the red carpet with first lady Melania Trump ahead of the show, he said he was not bothered by the reported boycott. 'I couldn't care less, honestly, I couldn't,' Trump said. 'All I do is run the country well. The economic numbers you saw them today, they're setting records. We took $88 billion in tariffs in two months, far beyond what anybody expected. There's no inflation. People are happy. People are wealthy. The country is getting back to strength again. That's what I care about.' Trump also spoke about his plans for the Kennedy Center, whose board he replaced with loyalists, some of whom were in attendance Wednesday, including Usha Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. 'We want to bring it back, and we want to bring it back better than ever,' Trump said from the red carpet. 'As you know it needs a little help from the standpoint of age and fitness, but it's going to be fantastic.' Trump has previously proclaimed his love for Les Misérables, telling Fox News: 'I love the songs; I love the play. I think it's great.' He has played the musical's rebellion anthem, 'Do You Here the People Sing?' at past events and rallies. The story revolves around revolution in France, and has been a massive smash for decades. Trump also suggested that 'we may extend' the show's run. Currently, Les Misérables is slated to run at the Kennedy Center through July 13. The political drama at the center comes just two months after audience members booed the Vances and they took their upper-level seats at the National Symphony Orchestra. Back in 2016, incoming vice president Mike Pence was booed when he attended a production of Hamilton with his family. Pence acknowledged that he heard 'a few boos" and "some cheers" and told his kids at the time, 'that's what freedom sounds like.' The ethnically diverse cast of the popular and sold-out musical, which tells the story of America's Founding Fathers, asked Pence not to leave the venue before he listened to what they wanted to say – which was that people were worried that Trump would 'not protect them.' While Trump demanded an apology from the cast at the time and called the show "overrated", Pence told Fox News at the time that he, his daughter and cousins "really enjoyed the show".
