Apple seems to be serious about rollables
Unlike the hinge-based folding designs we see in today's Galaxy Z Flips or Pixel Folds, Apple's take on a flexible screen revolves around a roll-out mechanism that extends the display like a scroll, then retracts it when not needed.This is far from a fresh idea for Apple . In fact, it's the sixth time the company has submitted this particular concept, with the original dating back to 2017. Apple's team has updated it repeatedly over the years, refining the engineering challenges related to durability, compactness, and display stiffness.According to the patent, Apple envisions a screen housed within a rigid shell, but able to extend outward with the help of rollers. Unlike an ancient parchment scroll, the display would remain taut and usable at all stages, thanks to 'deployment rollers' and 'elongated bistable support members' that keep it firm when pulled out.Interestingly, the display could still show information even while partially or fully rolled up — thanks to transparent housing windows that act like miniature always-on screens.One idea in the filing suggests the roller design could allow multiple form factors: phones, tablets, even glasses, pendants, or smartwatches. This would match what we're seeing from companies like Samsung and Motorola, who've already shown rollable concept phones.With flexible OLED screens improving and Apple's roller mechanism, a scrollable iPad or iPhone may eventually be the solution for compact devices that still offer large screens.What's more, the patent shows a shift from theoretical to practical: Apple is now focusing on materials that reduce wear, compact designs, and smoother deployment. It may not be a coincidence that this resurgence in rollable tech comes just as foldable iPhones are rumored again for 2026 or later.Of course, a patent is just a patent, and Apple has dozens that never see the light of day. But filing and updating this design six times suggests the company hasn't shelved the idea. Instead, it might be waiting for the right moment (and tech) to pull the scroll, quite literally, out of its sleeve.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with a larger battery than its predecessor's 4,685 mAh cell. According to a new rumor out of China today, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will finally be the first iPhone to reach 5,000 mAh. As you may know, that's pretty much been the default capacity for flagship Android devices up until recently, when Chinese brands started using Si/C batteries thus taking them past that limit, while Samsung and Google have been content to stay around the 5,000 mAh mark, for now at least. iPhone 16 Pro Max Throughout Apple's iPhone Pro Max line, every new generation brought with it a slight increase in battery size, aside from the iPhone 14 Pro Max which actually had an ever so slightly smaller cell than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Everything changed for the MacBook when Apple silicon introduced the M-series chips. These chips, compared to the Intel processors being used before, were so much better that it wasn't even funny. Battery life skyrocketed on the MacBook, it stopped overheating, and everything just worked so much current MacBook Air is, in my opinion, the perfect work and study laptop in the world. Not only is its chassis stunning, its display fantastic, and its battery life extremely long, it also has no fans. Never in my life did I imagine such a powerful laptop running completely silently, and yet here we the MacBook still has a problem: it's too expensive for a lot of people. Even the Air models cost a lot more than a mid-range Windows laptop. The aluminum chassis, the fantastic display and speakers, and the M-series chip inside drive the sticker price imagine my surprise when I learned that Apple is considering making a MacBook with an iPhone chip inside. The current A-series chips are crazy powerful: like 'run modern console video games on a phone' levels of we're talking about the A18 Pro specifically, then it's approximately just as powerful as the M1 chip that kickstarted the MacBook's renaissance. It even performs better than the M1 in some areas, like graphics. There is no doubt in my mind that this chip can run a MacBook, and run it Apple goes through with this plan — and it seems like it already has — then this MacBook will become the go-to laptop recommendation for a lot of people. The excellent battery life and efficiency of macOS alongside the power of an M1 chip for a much more affordable price? Yes. now, I see Apple users on online forums recommending a used M1 MacBook to people on a tight budget. This will just be that, but newer. Apple has a potential cash cow on its hands, and it needs to not fumble it.
