ICE is trying to increase recruitment with $50K signing bonus and ‘Defend the Homeland' posters
Immigration and Customs Enforcement is attempting to sign on recruits with bonuses of as much as $50,000 as well as student loan forgiveness, as it tries to reach the Trump administration's goal of hiring 10,000 new ICE agents. The Department of Homeland Security received a big boost to its cash flow for immigration enforcement following the signing of President Donald Trump's Big, Beautiful, Bill. On Tuesday, ICE launched a new campaign with the title 'Defend the Homeland.' The campaign included posters of Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, as well as pay benefits to recruit 'the next generation of law enforcement professionals to find, arrest, and remove criminal illegal aliens,' the department states in a press release. 'Your country is calling you to serve at ICE. In the wake of the Biden administration's failed immigration policies, your country needs dedicated men and women of ICE to get the worst of the worst criminals out of our country,' Noem said in a statement. 'This is a defining moment in our nation's history. Your skills, your experience, and your courage have never been more essential. Together, we must defend the homeland.' The Republican spending package sent $170 billion to immigration and border security, a significant increase as the White House chases the goal of deporting one million people a year. However, ICE will have to increase hiring to reach such goals. Earlier this month, Trump border czar Tom Homan told Politico, 'This isn't easy. Ten thousand ICE officers? Never happened before.' 'But I'll say this: It's about time … with more money, we can do more,' he added. DHS also announced benefits such as improved retirement benefits and overtime pay, adding that recruitment materials would be sent to job fairs, college campuses, and law enforcement networks this week. The campaign is aimed at recruiting 'brave and heroic Americans to join ICE as federal law enforcement agents and remove the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from America's streets,' the press release stated. 'ICE encourages Americans with a commitment to public safety, national service, and upholding the rule of law to apply today to jumpstart a fulfilling career in federal law enforcement,' it concludes.

Judge dismisses lawsuit filed by Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution in fatal 'Rust' set shooting
A New Mexico judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by actor Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations in the 2021 fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the Western movie ' Rust.' The judge in a ruling made public Wednesday dismissed the case without prejudice for lack of any significant action with the claim, which was filed in state district court earlier this year. Baldwin's attorneys will have 30 days to file a motion seeking reinstatement. Luke Nikas, Baldwin's lead attorney, told The Associated Press in an email that the dismissal amounted to a nonevent since his team has been waiting to prosecute the case. 'We have been in good-faith settlement discussions with the parties to the lawsuit and will be refiling promptly if those discussions are not promptly and favorably resolved,' he said. Defendants include special prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, along with three investigators from the Santa Fe County sheriff's office and the county board of commissioners. A charge of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin was dismissed at trial last year on allegations that police and prosecutors withheld evidence from the defense. The trial was upended by revelations that ammunition was brought into the Santa Fe County sheriff's office months earlier by a man who said it could be related to the killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The allegations in Baldwin's tort claim include defamation, with his attorneys saying that prosecutors and investigators targeted the actor and coproducer for professional or political gain. Hutchins died shortly after being wounded during a rehearsal for the movie 'Rust' in October 2021 at a film-set ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when it discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin has said he pulled back the hammer — but not the trigger — and the revolver fired. The actor recently spoke to The Associated Press at San Diego's Comic-Con International, saying he couldn't believe what happened that day in court as the trial came to an abrupt end and that his life over the last year has been far better than the few years that preceded it. Still, Baldwin and other producers of 'Rust' are being sued in New Mexico state court by the parents and younger sister of Hutchins. Court records show a deposition for Baldwin in that case was put off in May and has yet to be rescheduled.

Trump says US will impose 15% tariff on South Korean imports
WASHINGTON/SEOUL, July 30 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the United States would charge a 15% tariff on imports from South Korea as part of an agreement with the Asian trading partner that avoids even higher levies. "I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has agreed to a Full and Complete Trade Deal with the Republic of Korea," Trump said on Truth Social. The South Korean government could not immediately be reached for comment. Reuters has not verified the terms of a deal. As part of the arrangement, South Korea would invest $350 billion in the United States in projects selected by Trump and purchase $100 billion of liquefied natural gas and other energy products, the U.S. president said. It was not immediately clear how the investment deals would be structured or over what time frame. Trump said additional investments would be announced later. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung will visit the White House "within the next two weeks" for a meeting with Trump, the U.S. president added. Trump also said South Korea would accept American products, including cars, trucks and agriculture into its markets and impose no import duties on them.
