Russell Martin and the Rangers transfer demand that 49ers must meet before Panathinaikos as eight deals come alive
The Glasgow giants are in dire need of new faces before they take on the rocky road to the Champions League
Pre-season is about to begin and Russell Martin knows the first team he will face as Rangers boss.
And with Panathinaikos just around the corner the new Ibrox owners will be weighing up their transfer market moves before the Champions League qualifier next month.
Martin has already told the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh exactly what he wants - with his early demands pointing to at least a couple of new recruits to help take on the tricky qualifying path.
Speaking to Sky Sports on the day of his unveiling, he said: "I think the way we're going to try and work and play is going to give them the best chance to show us what they've got and to give us the best version of themselves and hopefully one or two surprises.
"We'll need some help before that game for sure, but until we get in here and assess everyone, how many we'll need before the game or how realistic that is because football and the business and transfer window can be difficult.
"I'm pretty sure by then we'll have one or two people [in], to help us add to the group."
With John Souttar set to go under the knife before the start of the new season, Martin is in dire need of defensive reinforcements going into the crucial qualifiers.
Record Sport has revealed that talks are ongoing to land Conor Coady with Wolves also showing interest. The Herald notes that a "strong interest" in the Leicester City man remains.
Defender Almamy Toure is also reportedly on the shopping list after leaving FC Kaiserslautern - but German outlet Kicker claim that his preference is to remain in Germany as he weighs up his options.
The Times note that a loan move to bring Max Aarons could be among the first deals "completed" by Martin and the new owners - but it is understood that the Premier League side are still pushing for a permanent exit for the right-back.
Cyriel Dessers is closing in on a move to AEK, and a new striker is high up on Martin's agenda.
Ibrox legend Colin Hendry reckons that it may be tough to replace the goals of the enigmatic frontman, telling Coin Poker: At the end of the day, his future will be down to Russell Martin.
"And he might have looked at everything, analysed, looked at his squad and decided that actually, he doesn't fancy him. He may not fancy him for the type of football he wants to play.
"If that is the case and he is a sellable asset, then you have to say thanks and cheerio. What I would say is that if he were to leave, then that money would have to be spent on reinforcements because replacing his goals won't be easy."
Dor Turgerman is on the agenda as a successor and Israeli outlet One report that Maccabi Tel Aviv report that a "minimum" of £4.7million selling fee has been slapped on all their players this summer.
Kwame Poku also looks to be inching closer to a move to Ibrox as the 23-year-old approaches the end of his Peterborough contract.
Posh director of football Barry Fry has revealed he previously commanded a £5million and £5million in add-ons for the forward who is set to leave for a minimal fee.
Should Poku move outside of England, a compensation fee under the lower rate FIFA guidelines would be due to the club due to cross-border rules.
And pundit Lee Hendrie reckons there is still a chance he stays south of the border with Ipswich showing interest in the soon-to-be free agent.
He told FLW: 'Kwame Poku, obviously lots of interest that surrounds Poku from Peterborough United.
'Ipswich are the ones that are looking like they could potentially sign him. 'I really do feel that the way they play, their style, they utilise wingers, wide players, and he's quite versatile. He could play in a number of areas across the front line."
Nottingham Forest left-back Harry Toffolo has been named as a target after leaving the club as a free agent but reports south of the border suggest West Brom are also keen on a deal.
But the 29-year-old has already thrown the door open to an offer from Rangers: "There's been a lot of conversations held with many clubs. So it's going to be an interesting summer.
"It's going to be an exciting summer. Not a clue where I'm going to end up, which is quite fun.
'I'm used to travelling the country. So I think as long as my family, my wife and kids, we're all together, we're not really bothered where we go.
"As long as we're going there and we feel appreciated, valued and I get the opportunity to play, then we'll take it.'
Troyes' midfielder Metinho has caught Rangers' eye after a successful loan at FC Basel last term.
And the door is open for the Light Blues to make a move with new boss Ludovic Magnin conceding the Swiss side are ready to move on from a permanent deal.
He told BZ: "It is sometimes difficult to reconcile everything. And that's why I'm glad to be able to focus on other things, other players."

Rangers transfer target Conor Coady would 'no doubt' be a good signing for the Ibrox giants this summer but Leicester City should not sell him to the Ibrox club this summer, according to one Sky Sports pundit. The 10-cap England international faces an uncertain future at the King Power Stadium following Leicester's relegation from the English Premier League, with the future of manager Ruud van Nistelrooy still uncertain heading into the new season. Rangers have a reported interest in ex-England defender Conor Coady. | Getty Images Limited to just 19 starts last term, the 32-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Leicester and could be tempted across the border for more regular first team football, while he also has a prior relationship with Rangers' sporting director Kevin Thelwell, with the pair working together during his year long loan stint at Everton during the 2022/23 campaign. However, with Leicester under the threat of a potential points deduction due to alleged breaches of the English Football League's (EFL) Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the club must keep hold of Coady and reject any approaches from Rangers by Sky Sports pundit and former England midfielder Lee Hendrie, with his extensive experience likely to be invaluable as the club target an immediate return to the top flight. Chelsea plotting to hijack £60m Joao Pedro transfer with Brighton in talks with Newcastle
Enzo Maresca has confirmed the next signing he wants to make JOAO'S THAT Chelsea plotting to hijack £60m Joao Pedro transfer with Brighton in talks with Newcastle CHELSEA are plotting a swoop to hijack Newcastle's move for Joao Pedro. Sun Sport revealed talks have begun between the Magpies and Brighton over a £60million deal for the Brazilian forward. 3 Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is eyeing more attacking reinforcements this summer Credit: GETTY 3 The Italian is set to rival Newcastle for the signature of Brighton's Joao Pedro Credit: GETTY That was after the 23-year-old's representatives indicated he wanted to join them and be part of their Champions League push. Toon knew that Chelsea were also keen, but now the west Londoners could be about to try and launch their own move. Like Newcastle, Blues chiefs are huge admirers of his ability and versatility to play anywhere across the front line. Unlike their Premier League rivals, they are yet to open negotiations with the Seagulls, but they are considering an attempt to land him and bolster Enzo Marseca's squad. Brighton already have Greek attacker Charalampos Kostoulas as a replacement. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is a big fan of Pedro and missed out on him three years ago when he was at Watford before eventually landing Alexander Isak. Brighton are willing to cash in on the Samba star after he was axed for the last two games of the season by Fabian Hurzeler. That followed a training-ground bust-up with team-mate Jan Paul van Hecke. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS 3 Chelsea have only made one addition to their squad so far this summer, the £30million acquisition of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. But Blues boss Maresca is keen to add more attacking reinforcements before they kick off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on August 17. Chelsea star Mudryk's charge is a shock but not a surprise The Italian said: "Jadon [Sancho] is not with us so for sure that is a position we need to do something. "We have Noni [Madueke], Pedro [Neto] and Ty[rique George] only as the proper wingers. "So something, for sure, is going to happen."

Viktor Gyokeres tells friends his next club after Arsenal and Man Utd offers
Viktor Gyokeres has informed friends and family that he expects to leave Sporting for Arsenal this summer, according to reports. The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in European football on the back of a magnificent second season with Sporting, in which he scored 54 goals in 52 games to help steer the club to a domestic double. A host of Europe's elite teams have been credited with an interest in signing Gyokeres, with the Gunners finding themselves in pole position to wrap up a deal for the prolific Sweden international. The likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also been heavily linked, while Manchester United are understood to have made the former Coventry City man a lucrative offer to become the focal point of Ruben Amorim's misfiring attack. But Gyokeres is intent on playing Champions League football next term and is believed to have turned down a proposed move to Old Trafford in favour of a switch to the Emirates. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. A bitter feud between Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, and Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, has complicated matters somewhat, with the latter denying the existence of a supposed gentleman's agreement which would allow the player to leave for £59million. But Gyokeres is confident a resolution will be found in due course and according to talkSPORT, the Swede has now told his loved ones that they can expect to see him playing in Arsenal's colours next season. The north Londoners saw an opening offer of €55m (£46.8m) rejected out of hand by Sportin and are set to return with an improved bid for Gyokeres over the coming days. 'There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right,' Gyokeres told his followers on Instagram last week. Gyokeres' current contract in Lisbon runs through to June 2028. RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko remains an option for Arsenal should they fail in pursuit of a deal for Gyokeres. However, the Gunners will have to fend off strong competition from Saudi Pro League outfit A-Hilal should they switch their attentions to the 22-year-old Slovenian this summer. While Arsenal have been in talks with RB Leipzig over a possible move for Sesko since last month, there has been little progress regarding a proposed deal, with the Bundesliga club demanding in excess of £70m for the attacker. Quizzed about rumours he is pressing RB Leipzig to lower their demands, Sesko's agent, Elvis Basanovic, told Give Me Sport: 'This is far from truth! 'We respect RB Leipzig and I am 100 per cent convinced RB Leipzig will also respect our decision for the next step when we decide to do it. 'Even if there may be – or will be – a strong desire of the player to move to a certain club, we will never force or blackmail RB Leipzig. 'I believe this is not the right way, because the way you actually exit from the club shows your values. Values that you are bringing into a new club. 'I can understand in very big transfers, there are a lot of different interests but no matter what, I believe in football world should be more respect. 'So that's why we do things in the right way or we don't do them. It's very simple, even maybe in the media it looks very complicated.' Basanovic suggested Sesko could opt to stay put in German football if he is not presented with the right offer this summer. 'Well, his numbers at his age compared to some strikers with already great careers at his age are confirming my words,' he added. 'He will move from RB Leipzig only when we recognise a special club, a special project with a special coach.' Who would be the better signing for Arsenal?
