Taxi carjacked by masked man with firearm while passenger in backseat
Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses after a terrifying ordeal in which a taxi was carjacked by a masked man wielding an apparent firearm in Louth - while a passenger was in the car.
At around 10:40pm on Monday night, a taxi driver was assisting a passenger into his car at Roden Place in Dundalk. When he got back into the driver's seat, the door was opened by a masked man brandishing what he believed to be a firearm, who ordered him out of the car.
The suspect made off in the taxi and stopped half a kilometre away, pulling the passenger out of the car and throwing him to the side of the road. No injuries were sustained. The suspect is described as being of average height, heavy set and he was wearing a black money hat.
Gardaí are now appealing for information relating to the hijacking of the taxi in Dundalk on Monday.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: 'Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in Dundalk town, Roden Place, Francis Street or Jocelyn Street areas between 10:00pm and 10;50pm and who may have witnessed this incident or with information on the whereabouts of a silver Skoda Superb taxi with a 131-KE registration plate, to come forward.
'Additionally, they are appealing for those with camera footage, including dash cam footage, from the location at the time to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.'
The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.

It was the view of the Probation Service that he was at low risk of re-offending and that further supervision was not required. Judge Dara Hayes said this was an attack on an occupied family home. Fortunately, the alarm was raised otherwise the consequences could have been more serious or fatal. It was a joint enterprise of arson, a very serious offence. The defendant was a child at the time. He was now employed and in a stable relationship. Two of the co-accused had received custodial sentences, and two non-custodial. The judge continued that an immediate custodial sentence was not appropriate in this case. A five-year sentence was imposed, suspended for five years. Garda hospitalised after ‘vicious assault' by disruptive passenger on flight to Dublin
A GARDA was hospitalised after being assaulted by a disruptive passenger who arrived in Dublin on a flight from the US. On June 3, the captain and crew of a United Airlines flight from Newark reported a disruptive passenger on board. When the plane landed, Gardaí attached to the Dublin Airport Garda Station boarded the aircraft. One garda was 'viciously assaulted' as they attempted to remove the man from the plane, the police force confirmed in a statement. 'The man, aged in his 40's proceeded to viciously assault a member of An Garda Síochána,' Gardaí said. 'O.C spray was deployed in an attempt to stop the sustained assault of a Garda,' they added. The man fled the aircraft but was arrested a short time later. He has since been charged with assault and offences under the Air Navigation and Transport Act. He appeared before Dublin District Court on June 3. The Garda who was injured is being treated at Beaumont Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
