Man with 'so much promise' dies after falling ill in Ibiza nightclub
A man died shortly after falling ill in an Ibiza nightclub while on holiday on the party island. Stan-Lee Connor, 20, from Birkenhead travelled to Spain with his friend on Tuesday, July 1, for a six-night holiday but on the second night he fell ill.
Stan, as he was known to his friends and family, was on a night out in Amnesia, in San Antonio, when he appeared to become unwell, his sister Ellie McSherry said. He was taken back to Aparthotel Vibra Monterrey, where they were staying, by his friend, but when his pal woke up, he found Stan had died.
The 20-year-old Everton supporter's death is now under investigation by police, his family claim. They added that they are now in contact with Merseyside Police after flying to the Spanish island to arrange the repatriation of his body and to find answers, reports the ECHO.
In a tribute from the family, written by Ellie and her sister Sally, they said: "We lost our beautiful younger brother and son, Stan-Lee Connor, a kind-hearted soul whose heart overflowed with love, and whose life held so much promise. His sudden and heartbreaking passing in Ibiza at just 20 years old has left an immeasurable void in our lives.
" Stan wasn't just our brother, he was the light in our family. He brought warmth, laughter, and kindness wherever he went, and his presence made everything brighter.
"Stan was a proud and passionate supporter of Everton Football Club, loyal through every win and every heartbreak. He also found deep comfort in music, especially the timeless sounds of Pink Floyd. Their lyrics became a lifeline, especially after the heartbreaking loss of our dad last year. Music gave Stan strength, and in those melodies, he began to find his way back to peace."
Ellie, 28, explained how Stan had not long moved into his own flat and had recently got a new job as a factory worker. She said: "He just got a flat for the first time, he was doing his driving lessons and had just bought his first car.
"He had a new job and everything was looking up. He was just starting his life properly but he didn't get a chance."
She added: "He was buzzing about having his own place and getting on his own two feet. It's been a horrible few years."
The family tribute continued: "We want to be clear, we are not looking to point fingers. We are seeking something deeper: awareness, compassion, and change.
"Our Stan's passing is a devastating reminder of just how vital it is to care, to act when someone is vulnerable and to never look away. The smallest gesture, a simplest act of kindness, can mean the difference between life and loss.
"We have shared everything we know with Merseyside Police and continue to pursue answers through the appropriate channels.
"But more than anything, we want the world to remember Stan for who he truly was: a big-hearted soul, full of warmth, laughter, and love, the best brother, son and friend anyone could hope for. He had so much life ahead of him and so much love to give.
"In his memory, we ask others to open their eyes and hearts. To check in on those around them. To never ignore someone in pain. Let Stan's story be a powerful call to action: that care is not optional, it's necessary.
"Stan-Lee Connor deserved so much more. He had dreams to follow, memories to make, and a future full of happiness. We will carry his legacy forward not only through our grief, but through love, and through a promise to keep his spirit alive by raising awareness of the importance of compassion. Stan Lee Connor deserved better. We will never stop fighting for the truth, for justice and the dignity he always deserved."
Two Scots died in Ibiza in separate incidents at the Ibiza Rocks hotel on the Balearic Island this month.
Gary Kelly, 19, from Dundee, died instantly in the fall at the four-star hotel on the party island during the early hours of Monday, July 21.
And Evan Thomson, from Aberdeen, died at the hotel under similar circumstances while on holiday celebrating his 26th birthday just two weeks ago.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were made aware on Thursday 3 July of the sudden death of a 20-year-old Wirral man in Ibiza.
"We shared information provided to us with the Spanish authorities, who are conducting the investigation, and supported the man's family in their communications with them."

Alex McGugan, who moved from Britain to Ibiza 13 years ago, has highlighted the alarming increase in deaths amongst British tourists from balcony falls in 2025 A British man in Ibiza has highlighted a worrying trend on the Spanish island and issued advice to all those planning holidays in the region. Alex MacGugan took to TikTok to share a video in which he claimed the problem is occurring "every single year" and will "continue to happen" in the future. His alarming warning concerns balcony falls in the tourist hotspot. In a clip posted this week, he said: "There's been a lot of stuff in the news recently, especially at the big branded hotels about people who have tragically lost their life. That incident has happened again twice in the last three days but you won't have heard much about it as it wasn't at these hotels." Alex went on to urge others not to mess around by balconies - something he has always adhered to in his 13 years living on the island. "Stop climbing over teammates or birds' balconies just because you don't want to use the door," he advised. Indeed, last month, two young men died after falling from the balcony at Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio. Scottish ice hockey player, Gary Kelly, 19, was visiting the island when he fell from the third floor on July 21. It followed the death of another Brit, Evan Thomson, who lost his life after falling from his sixth-floor balcony at the same hotel while celebrating his 26th birthday with friends two weeks prior. In April, meanwhile, a 33-year-old British woman died at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, whilst a 19-year-old Italian tourist of Turkish origin plunged to her death from the fourth-floor at the same hotel in the same month. And last year it was reported by the Mirror that numerous 'balloon men' are giving clubbers a hits of nitrous oxide, known as 'nos' or 'laughing gas' for just €5 a go. Spain has banned the sale of nitrous oxide for recreational use, warning it can cause suffocation, hallucinations and even cardiac arrest. But San Antonio's streets are full of groups of drunk and high Britons openly taking it. A police officer told the Mirror at the time they are almost powerless to stop street dealing. "We arrest some people 20 times, but they go to court and then you see them in the same place again, doing the same thing," he said.
