Rajpura BDPO suspended for ‘recommending' subscription of specific newspaper to panchayats
The order had apparently mentioned the name of the newspaper to which the panchayats in Rajpura block had to subscribe to. To ensure the compliance, the sarpanches and panchayat secretaries were asked to send their photographs after subscribing to the said newspaper.
In the order dated August 13, which the HT has copy of, the BDPO has mentioned that the orders were issued on the directions of the Patiala deputy commissioner. However, the Patiala DC, Dr Preeti Yadav, denied any such directions.
Additionally, Yadav added that she had already issued a show-cause notice to the BDPO over this matter.
The ADC said that when such a letter came to his notice, it was immediately withdrawn. He added that BDPO Bundeep Singh had been suspended with immediate effect. The matter came to light when RTI Activist Manik Goyal raised the issue.

No school will be closed in Uttar Pradesh: Yogi
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday asserted that no government school would be closed in the state, as alleged by the Opposition. During a marathon discussion on 'Vision-2047' in the assembly, Adityanath said, 'The education system in the state has become stronger and more modern than before.' 'I want to make it clear that the state government is not going to close any school,' the chief minister said. Adityanath made the point after leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey mentioned in the House: 'The UP government has reduced education instead of expanding it.'' Yogi said Pandey should not have said so and asked him to visit Atal Residential Schools. 'In your time, the liquor mafia used to decide how the nutrition should be done, we stopped that. You had no vision and no time, because your own children study abroad,' said Yogi Adityanath. 'Schools are not being closed, but they are being paired within 1-km distance to improve facilities,' he said. They are being merged into a large and well-equipped campus so that the student-teacher ratio can be maintained at 22:1 and the quality of education can be improved, he said. Pandey had alleged that the UP govt merged 29,000 schools and closed 10,000 of them. 'When we run PDA Pathshala, you get angry, after all, where will these children study?' he said. The CM said, 'Before 2017, the condition of 1.56 lakh basic and affiliated schools in the state was very bad. The teacher-student ratio was imbalanced and school dropout rate was highest in the country.'' He said under the School Chalo Abhiyan and Operation Kayakalp, which started in July 2017, a call for change was made, and the picture seems to have changed as a result of that. 'Children under CM Poshan Mission will get a nutritious diet of millet from the produce of farmers. You are worried that if kids become healthy, you will not be able to exploit them,' he said. Adityanath said since 2017, dropout rate has decreased drastically, and 40 lakh additional kids are connected to schools.

Himachal CM inaugurates first-ever ‘zero waste' tribal festival in Keylong

Sukhu said the event would promote environmental conservation and showcase the unique art and culture of the district. It would provide tourists an opportunity to know the region better. He said that the festival symbolises the commitment to preserving its heritage and would inspire people to celebrate responsibly. Sukhu said that climate change has posed serious challenges to the country and the state and Lahaul-Spiti was no exception, with unusually heavy rainfall in the district being a major cause of concern. The state government was taking all possible measures to provide relief during disasters and was working with the Centre to ensure environmental protection. The chief minister said that Lahaul-Spiti had emerged as a model district in women empowerment and the traditional products of the area would be promoted under the 'Him-Ira' brand. Sukhu also laid the foundation stone for five bridges in Udaipur sub-division under PMGSY Phase-3, to be built at a cost of ₹36,41,78,000. These include a 35 metre steel truss bridge over Chaikhang Nallah costing ₹9.93 crore, a 49-metre double-lane steel truss bridge over the Chenab River costing ₹9.46 crore, a 22-metre RCC T-beam bridge over Kishori Nallah costing ₹17.68 crore, a 76-metre RCC beam bridge over Teling Nallah costing ₹13.35 crore and a 22-metre RCC beam bridge over Moring Nallah costing ₹1.89 crore. Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna launched Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the 76th State-Level Van-Mahotsav at the Kanlog area in Shimla on Thursday. An additional ₹1.2 lakh per hectare was being provided for sapling maintenance,' said Sukhu.
