'This land was meant for his future': Father clings to son's grave who died in Bengaluru stampede; watch
Father's emotional video at son's grave goes viral after Bengaluru stampede
One video, in particular, has captured the raw anguish — a father sobbing at his son's grave, clinging to the soil where his dreams were buried.
BT Lakshman, father of 21-year-old Bhumik Lakshman is seen lying face down on his son's grave in Hassan district.
Overcome with grief, he weeps inconsolably, refusing to leave. 'What happened to my son should not happen to anyone else,' he cries out. 'This land was meant for his future.
Now, it holds his memory.'
When two men approach to lift him, Lakshman says he no longer wants to live anywhere else. 'No father should have to bear this,' he says, broken by the loss.
Bhumik, a college student, had gone to the stadium with a group of friends to watch RCB players take a victory lap.
In the chaos, he got separated — and never made it back. His death is one among many that have devastated families across Karnataka.
Stampede turns celebration into sorrow: Full list of victims
Manoj Kumar
, 18, a second-year BBM student from Presidency College, was another victim. His father, Devaraj NT, a pani puri vendor, is struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
'He loved cricket so much. His eyes used to sparkle when he talked about the game,' Devaraj said. 'Now they're shut forever, and so is my world.'
Devaraj described his son as a young man full of hope and ambition.
'He wanted to lift us out of poverty. He saw how hard I worked and promised to change our lives.'
Shravan
, 20, a second-year BDS student at Ambedkar Medical and Dental College, had travelled from Chintamani to be part of the celebrations. His future, too, was abruptly cut short.
Shivalinga

The teenager, whose parents work as daily wage labourers, had ambitions beyond what his humble background could offer. Now, those dreams lie shattered.
Prajwal
, 22, had just appeared for a job interview and joined the crowd at Chinnaswamy on a whim. His family thought he was heading home.
Kamatchi Devi
, 29, worked at Amazon and was a devoted Virat Kohli fan. For her, the day was supposed to be a joyful celebration. 'She couldn't wait to be there,' her colleague recalled.
But instead of joy, the day ended in tragedy.
Divyanshi
, just 14, was coaxed into skipping school by her mother Ashwini so they could see their favourite team in person. 'Maybe you'll see Virat Kohli,' her mother had said. The teenager's excitement turned fatal.

Jaiswal slightly ahead of Gill for spot in India's Asia Cup squad, says Chopra
New Delhi: Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes Yashasvi Jaiswal has a slight edge over Shubman Gill in the race for a place in India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, citing the left-handed batter's game being suited more towards T20 game. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee are most likely to meet on August 19 to pick India's squad for the Asia Cup, to be held from September 9-28 in the UAE. Both Gill and Jaiswal last played a T20I more than a year ago, with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson becoming the first-choice opening pair. 'It is important that you keep an opener with you because, while counting the previous 15-member squad, there was no third opener in the Indian team. We never thought that if Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson would lose their form, then who would open. But then, you have to keep a third opener for the World Cup.' 'As per T20 figures, Yashasvi is little ahead of Shubman. The way he plays T20 and the DNA of the team, he also marries that style. Sometimes it also happens that if you pick Shubman as the third opener, who is your Test captain, the ODI vice-captain, now you have him on the bench in T20Is, that will not look very nice.' 'So the selectors will be thinking that if we are going to select Shubman, then we will have to give him a place in the eleven. Though picking Shubman is tempting, but I feel Yashasvi should be slightly ahead in this race,' said Chopra on his YouTube channel on Saturday. It may not be easy for the selectors to leave out either Gill or Jaiswal, but accommodating them in the squad from the outside looks equally challenging. With a settled opening pair of Abhishek and Sanju, followed by Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh and Hardik Pandya, India's batting line-up already looks formidable with proven performers. While there could be a possibility of including one of them, the question is at whose expense. 'But if that third opener is Shubman, do you want him to sit on the bench? If you don't make him sit and play in the eleven, who will he come in for? If that player's name is Sanju Samson, who will keep wickets?' 'That is the problem because we don't see Sanju Samson playing in the middle order. You would want him at the top of the order. Tilak and Surya will play at number three and four. So, Sanju at fifth? That won't be a good story. If you want someone at fifth, then you will have to think about Jitesh Sharma because he has done very well in the IPL,' added Chopra.

There's no rivalry between me and Hardik Pandya: Irfan Pathan
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has recently claimed that back in 2012, he had suggested Hardik Pandya's name to VVS Laxman to be selected for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, SRH could not get the Baroda all-rounder. Hardik would later be brought by the Mumbai Indians in 2015. The pace-bowling all-rounder went on to have immense success for the franchise, winning trophies, and when he moved to the Gujarat Titans, Hardik also managed to win a title as the leader. Clarifying the rumours on Pathan having with Hardik, Pathan said, the former on Lallantop said, 'There's no rivalry between me and Hardik Pandya. There's nothing as such. No player from Baroda who went to the top can say that Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan didn't support them at any specific time. Even VVS Laxman said that I regret that I didn't listen to Irfan in 2012. If I had listened, then Hardik would've played for SunRisers Hyderabad. Laxman said that.' Pathan, ahead of the 2024 World Cup questioned the selection of Hardik in the side. 'What I feel about Hardik Pandya is that Indian cricket needs to make it clear that they should not give him that much priority as they have given him so far, because we still haven't won the World Cup. And if you think you are a primary all-rounder, you need to make that kind of an impact at the international level.' 'As far as the all-rounder is concerned, he hasn't made that impact at the international level; we are only thinking about the potential. We are getting confused between the IPL performances and the international performances. That's a big difference,' he added. 'There is nothing wrong if you criticise a player. If you are playing cricket, you have to face it. It happened with Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. They never made any feel that they were above the game. I am against the derogatory words used against Hardik,' Pathan defended himself.

The competition for the finisher's role remains fierce. Tilak Varma 4 / 8 Tilak Varma, a young and talented batter, could also miss out on the Asia Cup squad. The selectors appear to favor players with more recent success and form. Ramandeep Singh 6 / 8 Ramandeep Singh, known for his all-round abilities, could be on the edge of selection. While his potential is recognized, stiff competition from other multi-dimensional players might push him out of contention. His IPL showings will be critical for making a comeback.
