Video: How Indian Railways Uses Drones To Clean Train Coaches, Stations

The Indian Railways has been taking a futuristic approach in a first-of-its-kind move by using drones to clean train coaches and station premises across the country. The initiative was first rolled out in April at Assam's Kamakhya Railway Station, where the drones were deployed to clean areas of the trains and platforms that are not easy to reach.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the drones help with efficiency and precision in cleaning.
"They reach tough spots on coaches and station structures. A smart leap toward hygienic & cleaner Railways!," the ministry had said.

Traditionally, the cleaning tasks were done by labourers, which even posed safety concerns.
Reports suggested that the drones are equipped with high-pressure water nozzles.
Last month, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh had posted a video of the drones cleaning trains at the Kamakhya Railway Station. "For a nation's progress, modern and advanced machinery is essential," he said.

The Indian Railways has been making use of drones in several ways over the past few years. It introduced drones in 2018 to get real-time inputs related to the safety and maintenance of railway infrastructure. In 2020, the ministry developed 'Ninja Unmanned Aerial Vehicles' - which enhanced the monitoring with real-time tracking, video streaming, and automatic failsafe mode.

Vijayawada: In a significant first for Indian Railways, the Traction Distribution Department of South Central Railway's Vijayawada Division has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system certification. This landmark achievement was announced by Narendra A Patil, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Vijayawada Division. The comprehensive certification spans 22 strategic locations within the division, encompassing all TRD depots, TRD offices, and the TRD store. It recognises the department's unwavering commitment to the quality maintenance of Overhead Equipment (OHE) and vital power supply installations, both of which are critical for the safe and efficient operation of electric locomotives. The certification was granted by QRO Certifications, a renowned certification body, through Harsha Technologies of Hyderabad. This followed a series of stringent and thorough audits that meticulously assessed the quality and consistency of the TRD Department's service delivery. 'This milestone makes Vijayawada Division the first division in Indian Railways to secure ISO 9001:2015 certification for its entire TRD Department,' stated the announcement. Speaking on this momentous occasion, DRM Narendra A Patil extended his heartfelt congratulations to Ch Dinesh Reddy, senior divisional electrical engineer and the entire traction distribution department team. He lauded their exemplary dedication and sustained efforts in elevating service standards. 'This certification is not just a recognition — it's a responsibility to maintain the highest quality and safety standards for uninterrupted passenger services across the Division,' added the DRM.

PM to inaugurate Kashmir railway project on Friday
SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 272 km-long Kashmir Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project, connecting the land-locked Valley with the country's rail network, on June 6. The launch of the train service by the PM was scheduled for April 19 but was postponed owing to bad weather conditions. PM Modi will then address a public rally at the Sports Ground, Katra, which is the base camp for the pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi. Since it will be his first public rally after May 7 'Operation Sindoor', PM Modi is expected to talk in detail about the operation launched to avenge April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 lives were lost.

PM Modi to inaugurate world's highest railway bridge in Jammu & Kashmir on June 6
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world's highest railway bridge—the Chenab Bridge—in Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, marking a historic moment for India's infrastructure. Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, confirmed the development on Tuesday and said, 'PM Modi will inaugurate the Chenab Bridge on June 6, which [is] billed to be a proud moment for India and Jammu and Kashmir.' The Chenab railway bridge, built across the River Chenab, is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), a key connectivity project in the region. Dr Singh said the bridge has been constructed to withstand nature's toughest tests and is set to be an engineering marvel. In his first visit to the Union Territory following Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister will also flag off the Vande Bharat train between Katra and Kashmir. This will be the first Vande Bharat service in the region, and preparations are in full swing to ensure a smooth launch. Modi is also scheduled to address a public rally in Katra and inspect the Chenab Bridge during his visit. The original inauguration was planned for April 25 but had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. The upcoming event is seen as part of a larger celebration of Narendra Modi's 11 years as Prime Minister, which will be marked on June 9. According to sources, the government is preparing for a nationwide outreach campaign to highlight key achievements during his tenure. Meanwhile, the local administration in Katra is working closely with Indian Railways to put all security and logistical arrangements in place ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.
