The Rocks Sirius penthouse for sale for $45m to $50m
Iconic for its landmark location and brutalist architecture, Sirius, made headlines after being transformed from a government housing estate into a $585m 76-unit luxury apartment project with arguably the best view in Sydney.
The crowning penthouse made an appearance last year with $45m to $50m price hopes, but never found its deep-pocketed buyer. It has now resurfaced with a similar asking price, a new agent, and a revitalised interior offering.
'We've invigorated the apartment with new furniture, artwork, and added some extra luxury items,' said Steven Chen of The Agency, who has co-listed the penthouse with colleague Luke Hayes. The pair have a handful more to sell in the building.
The penthouse's owner has been reported as former Macquarie banker Jean-Dominique Hugh of developer JDH Capital, which brought the building back in 2019 from the State Government for $150m.
It had been an in-house off-the-plan deal for a rumoured $35m.
More than a simple reshuffle of staged furniture, the sky-high home comes with an updated $500,000 furniture package including soft furnishings, art and designer clothing curated by Jack Freeman of Cohen Freeman. The home's interiors were crafted by London-based guru, Kelly Hoppen.
'It's never been lived in and comes fully turnkey, with about half a million dollars worth of bespoke brand new furniture and hand-picked artwork. So it's a very elevated, world class level of finish,' Chen said.
While the inside of the 430sq m four-bedroom, five-bathroom penthouse is impressive, the enviable view is the home's wow factor, according to Chen.
'You can look at the beautiful photos, but when you're actually there you realise that Sydney Harbour is such an incredible world stage. It's probably the closest point you'll get in a new building with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House right in front of you. The view is absolutely stunning. Especially at the moment with all the lights from Vivid,' he said.
'In my job I see Sydney Harbour every day, but this is just spectacular from its unique vantage point.'
Despite the apartment not securing a buyer in 2024, Chen said the moment is right for the prestige penthouse.
'It's the perfect timing for a relaunch. The holidays have passed and the election has finished.
'We're seeing a lot of interstate clients looking for turnkey lock up and leave homes.
'There's interest from Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. Even international permanent residency clients have resurfaced in a big way since we launched a week ago.'
The Sirius penthouse at 38 Cumberland St features 40sq m of outdoor entertaining space including a private pool, a custom-made kitchen with hand-selected joinery and marble, as well as Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, ensuites to all four bedrooms, plus a primary suite with its own lounge room, study, steam shower bathroom and walk-in wardrobe.
There are also two living rooms, an internal elevator, custom stucco walls, a private entry lobby, two separate entry doors, and secure parking for three cars.
Sirius has a 24/7 concierge service, a five-star gym, heated swimming pool and sauna, a sophisticated residents' lounge and meeting room.

Parliamentary committee dismisses allegations against Darwin Waterfront Corporation
The Darwin Waterfront Corporation (DWC) has been cleared of wrongdoing by a Northern Territory parliamentary committee after the Territory Labor leader raised misuse of public money allegations. Opposition Leader Selena Uibo referred the "serious" allegations to the Public Accounts Committee last month. The allegations included the creation of a made-up unadvertised role that would see DWC's deputy chief executive, Sam Burke, receive a temporary $60,000 higher duties salary increase. The higher duties allowance allegedly continued for up to six years, long after the temporary role ended. Ms Uibo used parliamentary privilege last month to air the claims, which were made in a series of news reports by the NT Independent. Ms Uibo also referred allegations of funds being moved between two public bodies, the DWC and AustralAsia Railway Corporation (AARC). Mr Burke, who is married to NT Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro, is the AARC chief executive and was appointed the DWC general manager in 2016. He was then appointed DWC's deputy chief executive in 2020, at the same salary level, in a four-year contract that was renewed in late 2023. Chair of the railway corporation is Alastair Shields, who is also DWC's chief executive. The AARC is a separate statutory body that manages the railway between Darwin and Tarcoola in South Australia, which is co-located with the DWC. The DWC told the committee Mr Burke was paid a $42,000 salary for higher duties between the two organisations, for five separate stints between 2018 and 2020. "Because none of the periods of higher duties exceeded six months, they were not required by NT [public service] guidelines to be advertised," the DWC submission read. DWC chair Patrick Bellot said Mr Burke's salary was cost-shared with the AARC and DWC. "The auditor-general has never raised any concern regarding these transactions in our unqualified annual audit reports." Mr Bellot said both organisations had their own separate annual audits. Mr Shields told the committee the two organisations had become "enmeshed" due to the sharing of resources and staff since the DWC's establishment in 2006. "We've shared board members, staff, office accommodation, resources from the very beginning," he said. Prior to the committee's hearing, Tourism and Hospitality Minister Marie-Clare Boothby, who has responsibility over the DWC, said the allegations would be "put to bed" by the process. Afterwards, she issued a statement welcoming the committee's unanimous dismissal of the allegations. "I am drawing the line in the sand on this matter," she said. The five-member Public Accounts Committee has a government majority of three members.

Fashion retailer Lovisa appoints John Cheston as new global CEO
Longstanding fashion executive John Cheston has taken charge of ASX-listed jewellery behemoth Lovisa as its new chief executive, with the company's board promising him multimillion-dollar pay cheques if he hits key performance targets. The $3.25bn retailer confirmed the new era on Wednesday morning alongside the appointment of Mark McInnes as new executive deputy chairman. Mr Cheston will be paid a base salary of $2.35m but could earn additional short-term cash payments up to $2.35m if he substantially elevates the retailer's earnings. According to the renumeration conditions set out by Lovisa's board, Mr Cheston will receive an extra $2.35m on top of his base salary if he guides the company to earnings growth of 30 per cent or more. If he achieves 18 per cent growth in the EBIT metric, or earnings before interest and taxes, he gets $188,000 but zero if EBIT does not hit the 18 per cent threshold. Further, Mr Cheston, who ran children's retailer Smiggle for more than a decade before Lovisa, could receive up to $7.05m over three-years under a long-term incentive plan if he continually hits EBIT growth of 30 per cent or more for each financial year. The reward will be issued in company shares rather than cash and is subject to a two-year holding period. Mr McInnes, meanwhile, will enjoy a cash salary of $2m in his new role on the board. Lovisa, backed and run by billionaire entrepreneur Brett Blundy, recruited Mr Cheston and Mr McInnes from Solomon Lew's Premier Investments last year. 'Mark's extensive experience and proven track record of success in a large Australian ASX-listed retailer, combined with his leadership skills, make him an invaluable member of the board and executive management team,' Mr Blundy said on Wednesday. 'We are confident that his contributions will further strengthen our position in the industry and drive long-term value for shareholders'. Mr Blundy, through his investment vehicle BB Retail Capital, owns 39 per cent of Lovisa's issued capital. Lovisa, along with all retailers, is navigating an increasingly uncertain global trade environment. Year-to-date, shares in the company have traded down 3.5 per cent. Over a five-year time horizon, however, the company's value has boomed 312 per cent, moving from about $7 a share in June 2020 to $29.33 today. The company has 943 stores worldwide as of December, including 180 in Australia. It has recently opened its first franchise stores in the Ivory Coast and Republic of Congo in Africa and Panama in Central America. In its half-year report from February, the company reported $405.9m in revenues and $56.9m in profits.

Farmhand Ellie Morris's camera captures rural Australian stories
On a farm in Western Australia's remote north-eastern Wheatbelt, Ellie Morris sits in a tractor with her dog Marley on her knee and a camera at her feet. While the 24-year-old's main source of income is from her work as a farmhand in Perenjori, 341 kilometres north-east of Perth, her passion is capturing the world around her with her camera. Having received her first camera as a gift for her sixth birthday, Ms Morris has built up plenty of experience. "Basically, while I'm driving tractors, I'm flying drones and taking photos of what I'm doing," she said. "I'm a pretty visual person, and I'm not great with words. I don't always have a lot to say. So with my photos, I can say a lot more." Though Ms Morris has not had formal photography training, the amount of time she has spent on the farm with her camera has helped her strengthen her creative muscle. She believes her photos carry a simple message. "Showing people who don't live here what it's like — it's not always beautiful. There are two sides to it, and I capture that." Having amassed a following of more than 11,000 people on social media has led to offers of paid work. Comments from followers praise Ms Morris's ability to make something typically unglamorous, like dust, look like art. Sheep yards, storm clouds, crops, horses, and her Jack Russell, Marley, are some of Ms Morris's favourite things to photograph. She points to Marley and laughs. "When I bought her, I was told she was half border collie," she said. Marley, dusty sheep flocks, and storm cloud photos have drawn an international following, garnering a strong following from American horse and cattle ranchers. The balance between farming and photography is a simple one for Ms Morris. The camera stays on her at all times. "People don't realise how much time you spend on your computer for photography," she said. "That can get really boring. I do some of that stuff when I'm sitting in the tractor." She is now selling prints of her photos to customers on a domestic and international scale. Ms Morris has been working on Jason King's farm for the past five years. He refers to her as the "farm celebrity" and praises her eye for photography. Ms Morris has spent her entire life on farms, including being homeschooled on one. She made her first trip to the Perth CBD last year and wants to continue her travels. When asked if he was worried about losing his farmhand to full-time photography, Mr King said: "She's very good." "You guys keep turning up, so hopefully, for her sake, it takes off."
