Air India AI171 crash: Boeing, AAIB teams arrive in Ahmedabad to investigate deadly 787 Dreamliner accident
A team from Boeing and officials of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), on Monday, arrived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to inspect the site of the Air India plane crash.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the reasons that led to the crash of AI 171 on June 12.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into BJ Medical college's hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, killing 241 passengers and crew, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The lone survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
The total number of fatalities has crossed 270 as the medical college's residents on the ground and MBBS students also lost their lives after the plane rammed into the hostel.
Earlier today, an expert from the UK who reached the Air India plane crash site in Ahmedabad to conduct an inspection, said, "Maybe we will be able to speak later. We saw what you guys can see. It's just the same, as you can see from here," reported ANI.
On Friday, investigators recovered the black box, which is a flight data recorder from the crashed Air India flight. It will likely aid in finding clues about the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, the Additional Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital said on Monday that 92 DNA samples have matched so far, corresponding to 87 individuals, due to some duplication.
Speaking to the media, Dr Rajnish Patel also confirmed that 47 bodies have been dispatched to various districts so far.
According to Patel, the mortal remains of the identified bodies have been dispatched to various cities- Kheda, Ahmedabad, Kota, Mahesana, Bharuch, Vadodara, Aravalli, Anand, Junagarh, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Mahisagar and Bhavnagar.
The former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who lost his life in the AI 171 crash, will be cremated in Rajkot later today with full state honours, according to ANI.
The Tricolour is being brought to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Ahmedabad to be draped over his mortal remains.

Delhi Police bust cyber extortion racket; two arrested in nude video blackmail case
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): The Delhi Police have uncovered a cyber-extortion racket and arrested two persons, including the alleged mastermind, in a case involving blackmail through nude video calls. The investigation began after a complaint was filed by Ankit Kumar Kain, a resident of Shahdara, who fell victim to the scam, said the police. According to the police, Kain met a woman named Nandini on the dating app QuakQuak. After exchanging WhatsApp numbers, she initiated a video call in a nude condition while recording Kain's face. She later blackmailed him, threatening to leak the video unless he paid up. Fearing social humiliation, Kain transferred Rs 35,000 to a Bandhan Bank account provided by the blackmailer. When she demanded more money, he filed a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), said the police. Probing the transaction, police traced the money to a Bandhan Bank account opened in the name of Mangal Singh, a South Delhi resident, but operated by Shyam Singh from Rajasthan. Investigations revealed that Shyam Singh opened the account online using Mangal's details. The police said that the registered mobile number and email ID were linked to Shyam. Four mobile handsets used in the scam were recovered from Shyam's possession. The ATM card and SIM linked to the account were handed over to another accused, Aamir, who remains at large. Mangal Singh was also arrested from his residence in Jhangola, Delhi. He disclosed that he met with the accused Shyam Singh through one person, namely Harjeet Singh alias Sonu. Accused Shyam Singh offered him Rs. 10,000 in lieu of one bank account. Then the bank account of the accused Mangal got opened online by the accused Shyam Singh. Mangal has also given his ATM Card & cheque book of the said alleged bank account & SIM (registered in the alleged bank account) to the accused Shyam Singh. The accused Mangal received a commission of Rs. 6,000 online from Harjeet Singh alias Sonu and Rs. 4,000 in cash from accused Shyam Singh, said the police. During the course of the interrogation, it was revealed that Shyam Singh encouraged the persons to open their accounts, and he opened the accounts of the persons in lieu of money. He opened a Bandhan bank account online and handed it over to co-accused Aamir. Further investigation is in progress, said the police. (ANI)

Any terrorist attack in J-K will be considered as act of war: Manoj Sinha warns Pakistan
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 16 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday asserted that any terrorist attack in the state will now be treated as an act of war,' which is a tougher approach towards cross-border terrorism. Manoj Sinha was speaking during the passing-out parade of the 17th Batch of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) and the 26th Batch of Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) at the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) in Udhampur. A total of 50 probationary DySPs and 1,112 probationary PSIs graduated, marking the first batch to complete training under India's newly implemented criminal laws. The oath-taking ceremony was witnessed by J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Additional DGP (Director SKPA) Garib Dass. Addressing the new inductees, LG Sinha showed faith that they could serve the country with commitment. 'I am sure these courageous officers will maintain the honour of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and serve Maa Bharati with pride,' he stated. Stressing their responsibility, he asked them to uphold law and order, safeguard people, and keep their guard up against danger. Tapping the spiritual teachings for inspiration, Sinha urged the officers to draw strength from faith in the face of adversity. 'Our great saints referred to you as 'Shoorveer' (warriors)--you need to protect society from forces of evil,' he stated. Sinha complimented the recruits on their strenuous training, which consisted of Army and other security forces' training along with specialised modules on the fresh criminal laws. The LG underlined the changing dynamics of threats, especially cybercrimes, hacking, online fraud, and dark web operations, which have revolutionised conventional crime trends. 'The modus operandi of criminals has shifted with technology, and J&K Police need to change quickly,' he added. In spite of these challenges, he praised the force for its constant battle against terrorism, recognising the highest sacrifices offered by personnel in the line of duty. Reaffirming the zero-tolerance policy of the government, Sinha said that eradicating terrorism is the priority. Taking cue from recent operations - the April 22 Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor - he said that India has sent a strong message to Pakistan and its sponsored terrorists.'We have given them a lesson, he added. LG asserted that any next terrorist strike in J&K would be considered an 'act of war,' which would mean a bolder military and strategic intervention. This is what comes with India's increasingly complex approach towards cross-border terrorism, and is a possible change in counter-terrorism policy. Delhi: Man stabbed to death while trying to resist snatching of his mobile phone, three minors nabbed
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Delhi Police have nabbed three minors for a robbery cum murder case in which the victim was stabbed to death while trying to resist the snatching of his mobile phone and other personal belongings, said the police. Acting swiftly on available leads, the police team apprehended the juveniles involved and recovered the weapon of offence--a dagger--along with the deceased's wallet and ID card from their possession. The CCLs had committed the crime with the intent to earn easy money in order to fulfil their personal desires and sustain a lavish lifestyle beyond their means, said the police. According to Delhi Police, on 10 June, information was received at PS Ashok Vihar from Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital regarding the admission of a person named Amit Kumar, who had been brought in injured condition after being stabbed by unknown assailants. Acting swiftly, police personnel from PS Ashok Vihar reached the hospital, where it was found that the victim had sustained two deep stab wounds on the right side of his chest. Despite medical efforts, Amit Kumar tragically succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment. In the absence of any eyewitness or immediate clues, the matter was considered as a blind murder case, and a case was registered vide FIR No. 325/25 U/s 103(1) BNS and investigation was taken up. Team of PS Ashok Vihar analysed technical surveillance, conducted extensive local inquiries, and reviewed CCTV footage from the area surrounding the crime scene. Based on this route, local intelligence was developed, and informers were activated to gather further leads. As a result of sustained efforts, the accused persons were identified and apprehended. Upon sustained questioning, the apprehended juveniles confessed to their involvement in the present murder case. They admitted that they had attempted to snatch the victim's mobile phone, and when the victim resisted, they stabbed him and fled the scene with his mobile phone and other personal belongings. Based on their disclosure, the weapon of offence--a dagger--along with the deceased's wallet and ID card, was recovered from their possession, said the police. (ANI)
