Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley announced he will be taking some time off from the ITV breakfast show
Good Morning Britain star Richard Madeley has announced a show break, and he'll be off screen for weeks.

During Thursday's (July 17) broadcast of the popular ITV show, Richard appeared alongside co-presenter Kate Garraway.

The pair briefed audiences on the upcoming five-day strike by resident doctors and chatted with actor Martin Shaw, who famously declined the opportunity to portray James Bond.

Richard and Kate also delivered crucial guidance for parents regarding child safety, following recent alerts about the risks of serving slushie beverages to youngsters under seven years old.
Laura Tobin joined them in the studio to deliver regular weather forecasts, whilst Marverine Cole handled the remaining news segments, reports the Mirror.
As the programme drew to a close, Richard and Kate discussed the day's major headlines with political commentators Jonathan Ashworth and Kwasi Kwarteng, before passing the baton to Lorraine Kelly.
Just as GMB prepared to wrap up, Richard disclosed that he'd be taking leave over the coming weeks, but assured viewers of his return.
"Right, I'm off for three weeks, I'll see you all in three weeks' time," he announced.

"Are you? Have a lovely holiday. You haven't rebelled, you haven't been suspended, you're just going on holiday," Kate responded.
Richard jokingly concluded: "No, I haven't had the whip taken away, but I've had it applied a few times."

The replacement for Richard on the breakfast programme during his holiday has not been officially announced, but it's expected that one of his colleagues, Ed Balls, Martin Lewis, Adil Ray, or Rob Rinder, will step in.
Richard made a surprise comeback to daytime television in 2021 following Piers Morgan's departure from GMB after a row over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The veteran broadcaster, aged 69, is well-remembered for co-presenting ITV's This Morning alongside his wife Judy Finnigan from 1988 until 2001.
Richard's time off comes just a week after his co-presenter Susanna Reid revealed her own summer break from the show.
Speaking to viewers, she announced: "I am off on my summer holidays and will see you at the start of the new term."

Now the pair have reunited from their long-distance love to spend a cosy afternoon playing video games. Chris captured their bare legs wrapped up together as they enjoyed the colourful challenge, which played out on a TV mounted to the wall. Singer JoJo then re-posted the snap with the words: "Check out the level difference." LOVED UP The now-couple became extremely close while they co-starred on ITV reality show CBB. They spent a large chunk of time in the house cuddling and snuggling, despite JoJo's then-relationship with Kath Ebbs. Just hours after finishing in third place on the ITV series, JoJo dumped Kath at the after-party. Recently, ITV Racing correspondent Chris was open and honest about how "totally in love" he is with JoJo. "I am really in love with this one," he told the Daily Mail. JoJo Siwa & Chris Hughes 'will marry' - PLUS: Can we trust Love Island anymore? | Showbiz Fix "She is my princess, she is a good one." It came after he opened up to the Sun's Fabulous Magazine about the backlash he has faced after he went official with their relationship. He told us: "I've had more people call me 'gay' in the last two months of my life than ever before. "But it doesn't bother me – as long as people aren't nasty, opinions are fine." JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs' relationship We look back at JoJo Siwa's romance with Kath Ebbs: JoJo Siwa went public with hers and Kath Ebbs' relationship in January 2025. The Dance Moms star had been introduced to 27-year-old Australian content creator Kath by a mutual friend called G-Flip six months earlier. JoJo had split with her girlfriend Dakayla Wilson in November 2024 and it is believed she hooked up romantically with Kath soon after. Speaking in March at the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, JoJo said of her relationship: 'I am so happy. I am in a very mature relationship, and it's beautiful. It's taught me so much about life. 'It's taught me so much about love and respect, and it's a beautiful thing. 'It's different in more ways than I can count. I wouldn't even know what to say the biggest is 'cause just everything is so different and special.' Kath even claimed they had talked about marriage together. However, JoJo's romance with Kath abruptly hit the skids on April 25, 2025, at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party. JoJo dumped Kath at the bash after spending 19 days in the CBB house - where she had grown close to Love Island star Chris Hughes. He added: "Meeting Joelle gave me this magical feeling. "She is the most precious person….I'm obsessed with her. "I'd do anything for her." Discussing their romance, JoJo - who couldn't keep her hands off Chris during their recent trip to LA - also previously told The Guardian: "It's not platonic any more, and it's been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I'm absolutely head over heels for him and he's the same way. She added: "I won't ever speak for him, but for me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now." 6 The Love Island alum said how 'opinions are fine' on his relationship - so long as they weren't 'nasty' Credit: Getty 6 Chris and JoJo haven't been able to keep their hands off each other since their exit from the ITV spy house Credit: Instagram/Chris Hughes
