IMF to review Egypt's loan program on March 10, paving way for $1.2B

Egypt Today02-03-2025

CAIRO – 2 March 2025: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to review Egypt's loan program during its upcoming meeting on March 10, 2025.
Pending approval, the country is expected to receive the fourth tranche of its loan agreement, valued at $1.2 billion.
A senior government official told Youm7 that the funds are anticipated to be disbursed next month following the IMF's confirmation.
The source also noted that Egypt has been officially added to the IMF Executive Board's agenda for the March 10 session.
The official underscored that this tranche will play a crucial role in bolstering Egypt's foreign exchange reserves, which have reached a record high of $47.3 billion, according to data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
Earlier, the IMF announced it had reached a staff-level agreement with Egyptian authorities for the fourth review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
In February, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting Egypt's economy alongside the country's ongoing economic reform efforts.
Speaking at the AlUla Emerging Markets Economies Conference in Saudi Arabia, Georgieva highlighted Egypt's progress in implementing IMF-mandated reforms, emphasizing that these measures are strengthening the nation's financial position.
Meanwhile, the IMF has adjusted its projections for Egypt's economic growth, lowering its estimates for real GDP growth in FY2024/2025 and FY2025/2026 by 0.5 percent and 1 percent, respectively.
The latest World Economic Outlook report also revised the forecast for the current fiscal year, reducing it to 3.6 percent from the earlier estimate of 4.1 percent published in October.

When Sharks Collide: Robert Herjavec Meets Abdallah Sallam

StartupScene brings together Shark Tank America's Robert Herjavec and Egypt's Abdallah Sallam for a one-of-a-kind crossover conversation between two sharks who know how to spot a winner. Jun 09, 2025 What happens when the worlds of Shark Tank US and Shark Tank Egypt finally meet? In an exclusive for StartupScene in Cairo, we brought together Robert Herjavec, investor and longtime Shark on the hit American show Shark Tank, with Abdallah Sallam, President & CEO of Madinat Masr and one of the leading faces of Shark Tank Egypt. Together, they sat down for a wide-ranging conversation about startups, instincts, risks, deals that got away, and what it really means to back a founder. The chemistry was instant. The stories? Unfiltered. And the insights? Worth taking notes. From Robert's reflections on investing in founders who 'have something to prove,' to Abdallah's take on what makes a startup scale in the MENA region, this wasn't your average media interview. It was a genuine peer-to-peer exchange between two business minds who know what it means to put skin in the game. They talked candidly about what sets the Egyptian ecosystem apart, how entrepreneurs in emerging markets pitch differently, and why venture capital is as much about pattern recognition as it is about gut instinct. There were laughs, eye rolls, comparisons, and shared lessons from opposite sides of the globe - filmed right here in Cairo. This exclusive conversation marks a rare moment: the crossover of two global formats, two distinct markets, and two investors who rarely get a moment to just talk. No timers. No pitches. Just two sharks comparing notes - and giving us a front-row seat.

In statements to MENA on Monday, Fouad said that Sharm El Sheikh joined the ICLEI network, thanks to its sustainable development strategy, citing the injection of investments worth EGP 800 million in the new and renewable energy sources in the city to produce 51 megawatts of clean energy, the establishment of 145 kilometers of bike lanes, the introduction of a public bike-sharing system and robust solid waste management systems. She added the next phase will focus on activating the Sustainable Environmental and Social Strategic Development Strategy (SESSDS), through banning the use of single-use plastic in 50 hotels, empowering local community initiatives, especially in protected areas and coastal areas, and expanding partnerships with the private sector and international supporters.

Egypt, Nigeria FMs discuss economic ties and African security

CAIRO, June 7 (MENA) – Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty praised the strong ties and historical relationship between Egypt and Nigeria, highlighting a shared commitment to building on existing opportunities to advance cooperation—particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors, with a focus on agriculture. During a phone call on Saturday with Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Abdelatty pointed to the significant presence of Egyptian companies across Africa and voiced interest in exploring new joint investment opportunities that offer mutual benefit. The two ministers exchanged views on developments across the African continent and discussed ways to deepen cooperation and coordinate positions within the African Union to strengthen peace and security—especially in the Sahel region. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to support efforts to counter terrorism and extremism in light of security threats in the Sahel. He also emphasized Egypt's commitment to supporting Nigeria through capacity-building programs, including cooperation with Al-Azhar in combating extremist ideologies. The conversation also included an exchange of perspectives on Middle East developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. Abdelatty briefed his Nigerian counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, while condemning Israel's continued violations of international law and international humanitarian law and its actions against Palestinian civilians, which he said run counter to global calls for an immediate end to the war and unimpeded humanitarian access.
