Jesus Pinedo vows to stop Gabriel Braga, 'make it look easy' in PFL trilogy

USA Today15-04-2025
Jesus Pinedo wants to leave no doubt he's the better fighter in his rivalry with Gabriel Braga.
Pinedo, the 2023 PFL featherweight champion, is tied up at 1-1 with Braga, and the two will get a chance to settle the score in the semifinals of the 2025 PFL featherweight tournament.
Pinedo (24-6-1) and Braga (16-2) first fought in 2023, with Braga coming out on top in a close decision win. A few months later, they rematched in the final of the 2023 season, with Pinedo avenging his loss by third-round TKO to claim the 2023 PFL featherweight title and $1 million prize.
This time around, the Peruvian wants to show the MMA world that he's vastly superior to Braga and close out the trilogy with a definite win.
'Braga is a tough fighter. No one can say otherwise,' Pinedo told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. 'He has a good record, he's been winning his fights, but I have to be sincere: I think I will finish him quick. I know he's a tough guy, but I'm going to make it look easy.'
Pinedo vs. Braga 3 is one of the most anticipated bouts of the 2025 PFL tournament series. It got a lot of fans talking after watching the two win their respective bouts at 2025 PFL World Tournament 1 earlier this month, and then face off in an intense staredown.
Pinedo vs. Braga III is OFFICIAL! The trilogy we needed to see! 1-1. The final chapter begins with FIRE in their eyes. 🔥🇵🇪🇧🇷#PFLWorldTournament

Braga was very aggressive during the staredown, but 'El Mudo' was in no way intimidated by the Brazilian.
'No, the truth is that I wasn't bothered,' Pinedo explained. 'I know how it feels. I know that he has all the pressure on him. I'm coming off beating him and, in my opinion, the two times we fought I won them both with the last one being more dominant. He has the pressure. He knows what he's dealing with. He knows who I am. I just hope he's ready.'
Pinedo is, in the eyes of many, the favorite to win this year's PFL featherweight tournament. It's a much more different position than when he first entered the promotion as an unknown and unproven fighter in 2023.
'I feel like everyone know sees me with different eyes, and that's recent,' Pinedo said. 'Even after this fight, people are realizing that none of this was a coincidence. It's all hard work. People know me and that motivates me because now nobody is going to underestimate me. I have to train very hard. Fights are going to be even harder now.'

Texas A&M is a finalist to land rising 2026 4-star SG out of St. Louis (MO)

Entering his first season at the helm, new Texas A&M basketball coach Bucky McMillan has already assembled his 2025 roster, made up of 13 transfer additions, freshman guard Jeremiah Green, and international Spanish shooting guard Ruben Dominguez. On the recruiting trail, McMillan has strategically spread out his offers, which include rising 2026 four-star SG Quentin Coleman, who recently placed Texas A&M in his top 4 program list. Sitting at the top of Coleman's list, McMillan and his staff have been with the St. Louis (MO) native since the very beginning, watching his rise in the rankings and developing a strong and consistent communication channel that could pay off with a commitment down the stretch. Right now, landing three or four commitments in the 2026 cycle is the goal, especially before his first season with the program. Standing at 6'3" and 170 pounds, Coleman is one of the top shooters in the country. Like many of the prospects McMillan has offered, Coleman shot over 45% from the field during his 2024 junior season, averaging 19.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. This summer, Coleman's scoring averaged slightly decreased to 14.1 points per game during Nike's Peach Jam Tournament, but also led to his rise with nearly every blue-blood representative in attendance. According to Rivals, Coleman is currently positioned as the 61st-ranked shooting guard and the 8th-ranked prospect in Missouri. Coleman will choose between Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Iowa, Wake Forest, Illinois, and St. Louis. Francis Ngannou explains PFL Africa absence, responds to Donn Davis' criticism

Francis Ngannou wasn't happy with how the first PFL Africa-branded event was presented, so he decided to stay home. The event took place July 19 at GrandWest Arena in Cape Town, South Africa, featuring a total of 14 fights. However, the way the promotion broke down the event, it split the undercard with PFL Africa branding, while the main card was labeled as PFL Road to Dubai Champions Series. The main event of the card was a middleweight title fight between Johnny Eblen and Costello van Steenis. With all of the work Ngannou put in behind the scenes as the region's chairman, he was hoping the first PFL Africa event would have been the main focus. Since it wasn't, Ngannou decided not to attend, which drew public criticism from PFL CEO Donn Davis, who said he was "disappointed" with his absence. "As far as my reaction, I don't think it was something he should have bring out there," Ngannou said Monday on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "At least if it was me, I wouldn't keep it out there. Now it gets in the position that we have to bring up context, like why didn't I come there. He didn't know why I didn't come. I've been waiting for this for two years, and this was the big part of it: So, when you're still working on something, unless you think it's off, it's not a thing that you bring it outside. I wasn't OK with something, but I wasn't the one that was going to take it out (publicly). "For example, if you want to know what exactly is the reason I wasn't there, I wasn't very OK with the first PFL Africa event seeming to be like an undercard. ... That wasn't my decision, and I wasn't down for it, but I expressed my feelings to them." The July 19 event featured some of PFL's biggest names, including A.J. McKee and Dakota Ditcheva. However, Ngannou felt the focus should have been on the African fighters so that the spotlight could have been shone on them, rather than being on essentially an undercard. According to Ngannou, constant conversations with Peter Murray and other PFL executives involved a different vision for the start of PFL Africa. Ngannou clarified that he rarely communicates with Davis. Ngannou did not attend the second PFL Africa event on Aug. 9, which was more like what he had in mind for the first. Although he enjoyed some of the fights he saw, the totality of the event still wasn't what he had envisioned. "Matter of circumstances, and again, we were still working on it," Ngannou said, explaining his absence from the second event. "This is not the only event. PFL Africa is something that is made to be run forever. So, as we take the time that it takes to set things up right, then the company will run properly. So, I don't have any problem with that. I don't have any problem with going, as long as we get things right and feel comfortable. Because I'm going there, stepping forward, putting myself in line as a guarantee. So,at least I'm going to make sure I'm going to stand by what I'm saying."
