‘Searching for Spain' star Eva Longoria's must-have travel essentials include this under-$40 eye serum
Two years after the finale of the CNN Original Series 'Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico,' the award-winning actress, producer and director is back as our virtual travel guide. This time, though, Longoria is taking us to Europe — no passport needed.
In the eight-episode docuseries 'Eva Longoria: Searching for Spain,' which airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CNN, Longoria leads viewers on a culinary journey around Spain. In the premiere, we follow Longoria to Barcelona and the Catalonia region, where she takes in stunning views, experiences the Festa de la Filloxera (Phylloxera Festival) and savors flavorful local cuisine.
'Spain's rich culture, passionate people and bold and diverse cuisines have captivated me as long as I can remember, especially knowing that one of my Mexican-American ancestors has deep roots in this remarkable country,' Longoria said in a press release. 'The opportunity to immerse myself in Spain's many regions, to discover its fascinating history, to indulge in its dynamic culinary traditions and innovations has been nothing short of exhilarating. I am so excited to finally share this incredible journey with the world!'
Ahead, we asked the host and executive producer about her must-have travel items, from the luggage she relies on to transport her belongings sans issues to the dark-circle-banishing eye serum she can't live without.
Tumi 19 Degree Lite Continental 4-Wheeled Carry-On
When it comes to luggage, Longoria believes in investing in high-quality pieces, which is why she's such a big fan of luxury suitcase brand Tumi. This carry-on from the brand may come with a $850 price tag, but it has a durable Tegris outer shell that can withstand rough handling, meaning accidental drops won't put a dent in your day. In addition to two different handles — telescoping and top carry — plus dual wheels that allow the suitcase to effortlessly cruise along, the carry-on has a thoughtfully designed interior to help you organize your belongings.
Bandolier Hailey Leather Crossbody Phone Case
Longoria is among the many celebrities, including Blake Lively and Martha Stewart, who are fans of Bandolier's crossbody phone case. Crafted from genuine pebbled leather, the Hailey, one of the brand's bestsellers, allows you to go hands-free while keeping your phone close, a benefit Longoria describes as a lifesaver. It has an adjustable strap and an expandable wallet to hold your cards and cash. We also love that it comes in several neutral hues, along with red for those who prefer a pop of color.
Oura Ring 4
A self-proclaimed biohacker, Longoria says her Oura Ring (we've tested the 3rd-generation model) has been key to helping her improve her sleep. In fact, the chic fitness tracker is the reason why the "Searching For Spain" star began taking magnesium supplements before bed. In addition to its sleep-tracking capabilities, the Oura Ring 4 can also measure things like activity and stress levels so you can keep tabs on your health while you're traveling.
L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid and Caffeine Eye Serum
In terms of travel-friendly skin care, Longoria praises this under-$40 eye serum from L'Oréal Paris, a brand she's partnered with, for its soothing roller ball applicator, which features not one but three cooling stainless steel balls. Formulated with hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin and caffeine to minimize puffiness and dark circles, the serum can be used both day and night. And since you can pack liquids under 3.4 ounces in your carry-on, you can bring this serum onto the plane with you.
Slip Lovely Lashes Contour Sleep Mask
Longoria usually wears eyelash extensions, so she loves that this silk sleep mask from Slip is contoured on the inside to prevent unwanted contact with her lashes. 'It's the best,' she said. 'I give it as a gift to everybody.' CNN Underscored beauty editor Sophie Shaw is also a fan of the brand and uses its Pure Silk Pillowcase, which she describes as ultra soft and cool to the touch.
Alo Airlift High-Waisted Suit-Up Leggings
'I love Alo, in general,' Longoria said. 'They're probably my favorite workout brand ... I like the fabrics, I like the colors [and] I like the styles.' These high-waisted, full-length leggings come in several colors and can be worn for everything from train travel to high-intensity workouts. Longoria says she also appreciates the brand's lifestyle pieces in addition to its performance wear.
Alo Airlift Suit-Up Sports Bra
Like the matching leggings, the Airlift Suit Up Sports Bra is made from Alo's high-compression Airlift fabric. It features contrast piping, adjustable straps and removable cups so you can customize the level of padding. We love that the bra can be worn on its own or under a jacket or sweatshirt. Thankfully, Amazon just dropped a selection of clothing and shoes that are breezy and comfortable for summer trips. Amazon's Hot New Releases store features tons of fresh fashion arrivals, including some summer-friendly options to complete your vacation outfits. You can find flowy pants, breezy dresses, comfy sandals, and more to pack for your destination or wear to the airport—and all for less than $50. Check out our top picks below, with options starting at $10. This beach dress is stylish enough to wear to brunch or for a relaxing day at the beach. It features a small ruffle at the waist for an elegant look and has pockets for keeping your phone and wallet within reach. Matching sets make it easy to look put together quickly, and this skirt set is proof. It's already become a No. 1 new release at Amazon and for good reason. One reviewer described the fabric as 'silky on the skin,' and a petite shopper said that the skirt was the perfect length for them. The 'non-clingy' fabric is just one of the many standout features of these wide-leg pants. They're made from a soft, flowy material that is comfortable enough to wear on long plane rides, and the two side pockets are handy for keeping small in-flight essentials, like your earbuds and phone, within reach. These platform sandals will elevate your outfits and keep your feet cool with their sleek, open-toe design. The anti-slip sole has extra traction to help keep you stable during rainy walks around a city, and the back strap is adjustable, so you can make sure your feet are secure. Formal cruise dinners and wine tours call for this elegant jumpsuit. It not only has flowy wide-legs to keep you cool and comfy, but the V-neckline is perfect for showing off your layered necklaces and earrings. A cozy outfit is non-negotiable when you have a long travel day, which is where a matching set like this comes in. It includes a T-shirt and wide-leg pants that are stretchy and soft, so you can comfortably sit for hours on a plane without counting down the minutes until you can change. This T-shirt is a summer must-have, with its whimsical patterns and bright color options, and flowy construction. You can easily dress it up with a skirt and sandals while you restaurant hop, or keep it casual with a pair of jeans and sneakers. This beach cover-up is only $20, but one reviewer said it looks 'way more expensive than it is,' while another shopper added that the 'quality is amazing.' We credit the crochet design, petal neckline, and hem for making it appear so elevated. Plus, the material is lightweight, which will come in handy on hot days lounging by the pool. If you're not a fan of tight, denim shorts, try these skorts for instant style and comfort. Unlike jeans, they're lightweight on the body and in your suitcase, and have an adjustable drawstring waistband to give you a cinched look or more room when you get cabin bloat on the plane. If there's one thing shoppers agree with, it's that these flip-flops are comfortable. They come with adjustable straps to help keep your feet secure and extra cushion for arch support. One shopper with plantar fasciitis said they've worn these every day since they got them and that they've helped with walking. Love a great deal? How to watch Spain vs. France in UEFA Nations League semifinal
Two international powerhouses go at it in a UEFA Nations League semifinal, with Les Bleus and La Roja battling Thursday for a championship look on Sunday. France and Spain each enjoy top-tier youth pipelines, and some of the best players in the world will share a pitch in Germany. UEFA's Nations League is a relatively new undertaking — this is only the fourth go-around — but this semifinal could be one of the best matchups in its short history. Lamine Yamal is a captivating watch at just 17 years old, and Pedri is an extraordinary midfielder at 22. Spain is on a roll, having won last year's Euros and the most recent Nations League championship in 2023. It has certainly set itself up for an extended run of excellence. Getting here was exhausting, though. Its quarterfinal versus Netherlands went all the way to the edge — tied 5-5 on aggregate before Spain won 5-4 on penalty kicks. Mikel Merino delivered a dramatic first leg equalizer in the 93rd minute. Mikel Oyarzabal had two goals in the second leg, and Yamal scored in the 104th minute. Spain launches another tax raid on British holidaymakers
Are you a holiday let owner affected by the Spanish government's new tax? Get in touch money@ Spain's socialist government is planning a tax raid on British holiday let-owners in the country. The ruling Spanish Socialist Workers' Party wants to charge 21pc VAT on stays of less than 30 days – more than double the rate paid by hotels. It comes as Madrid lawmakers take aim at foreign property investors as part of efforts to tackle high housing costs. Draft legislation put before the Spanish parliament would raise taxes on owners of short-term tourist rentals from the current rate of zero. The suggested 21pc levy is more than double the 10pc paid by hotels. Unveiling the new bill last month, housing minister Isabel Rodriguez said: 'Homes are for living in [...] the measures seek to guarantee the right to rental housing for families.' The proposed change is part of the same legal push to impose a 100pc purchase tax on the sale of Spanish property to non-European Union buyers and also includes higher taxes for second homes and vacant properties. Alex Radford, partner at Spain-based law firm English Solicitor & Abogado, said: 'The VAT has got more chance of being implemented than the 100pc tax on a property bought by a non-European.' He said that if approved, the bill would likely increase the cost of holidays and lead to fewer available holiday lets in Spain. 'We would envisage that the rental [market] is going to be slightly more expensive. If owners have to add 21pc VAT to the cost of a rental, then we would expect rentals to decrease and people will look at other countries.' 'It's still early days and we don't know what will get approved and what will not,' Mr Radford added. Millions of Britons who visit and live in Spain face losing out because of the new laws, which will undergo scrutiny and potentially amendment before being voted on in the second half of this year. There were more than 260,000 British expats living in Spain at the last official count in 2020, while it received 1.6 million tourists from the UK – more than any other country – during the busy April period last year, according to the Spanish statistics agency. Robert Amsterdam, partner Amsterdam & Associates, a law firm that has campaigned against higher Spanish taxes, said: 'The Spanish government is diverting the attention of the Spanish people away from the government's behaviour and they're coming up with the British as enemy number one.' Most estimates place the number of British people who own property in Spain between 800,000 and one million. A figure for the number of British holiday let-owners in the country was not available. British non-residents bought 3,480 homes in Spain in the first half of 2024, making up 38pc of a total of 9,166 properties sold to non-resident non-EU buyers, according to the latest available figures from the General Council of Spanish Notaries and Spanish Property Insight. Growing anti-tourist sentiment in Spain has already seen cities like Malaga and Madrid capping new licences for holiday lets, while Barcelona will ban them completely by 2028. Spanish media reported in January that Barcelona's plans would cost €1.9bn (£1.6bn) and lose the city around 40,000 jobs, based on a report by consultancy PWC. The country's minority coalition government has defended a crackdown on foreign property investors and holiday let-owners as necessary to make more housing available for Spanish people. There is a deficit of 450,000 homes across Spain, according to a Bank of Spain report published this week. In popular tourist destinations like the Canary and Balearic Islands half the housing stock is either holiday lets for tourists or homes owned by foreigners, it said. Javier Peñate, a legal adviser to a holiday homeowners association in the Canary Islands, told Reuters: 'The sole objective is to put an end to these activities and leave [tourism] in the hands of hoteliers.' Short-term rentals in the province already pay 7pc VAT, as do hotels.
