Breakthrough Battery Tech Promises 1,000-Mile EV Range and 190-Mile Charge in Under Four Minutes

Express Tribune21-06-2025
24M Technologies, a US-based battery firm, says it has developed a next-generation electrolyte that could dramatically improve the range and charging speed of electric vehicles (EVs), while performing reliably even in extreme temperatures.
24M Technologies has unveiled 'Eternalyte,' an advanced electrolyte it claims delivers a step change in ionic conductivity — the key factor in how quickly a battery charges and discharges.
The company says the breakthrough could power future lithium metal batteries capable of over 1,000 miles of driving range and add 190 miles of charge in under four minutes.
Unlike some cutting-edge battery technologies that require overhauls to charging infrastructure, 24M claims its solution does not rely on high-cost MegaWatt charging stations.
Instead, Eternalyte enables ultra-fast charging using today's setups.

The electrolyte also promises to solve one of the most persistent EV concerns: performance in extreme cold.
According to test data shared by 24M, the battery tech retains full capacity at 0°C and more than 80% at -40°C, addressing winter-related range drops that plague many current EVs.
Eternalyte is compatible with a range of battery chemistries — including lithium metal, silicon and graphite-based cells — and can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes, reducing adoption costs for producers and automakers.
24M Technologies, which has largely operated under the radar, is now positioning itself at the forefront of next-gen EV development — offering a potential breakthrough without demanding widespread infrastructure changes.
Though the company has not revealed full technical details of Eternalyte, it claims the solution is designed not just for today's EVs but for the battery demands of the next decade.

Uncertainty persists despite EU-US trade deal: Lagarde

BERLIN: The US-EU trade deal has eased but 'certainly not eliminated' global uncertainty, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said Wednesday. Speaking at a panel at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Lagarde said the deal had left the effective US tariff rate for EU goods at between 12 and 16 percent. The tariff rate was 'somewhat higher' than the ECB had forecast, she said, adding that President Donald Trump's plans for sector-specific levies on pharmaceutical goods and semiconductors remain unclear. The ECB expects eurozone activity to slow in the third quarter of 2025 after a strong start to the year. Lagarde said that 'global growth has remained broadly steady so far' but cautioned that 'this resilience has been mainly driven by tariff-induced distortions of economic activity'. EU push to protect digital rules holds up trade statement with US, FT reports She noted that, in the first quarter of the year, 'importers boosted their inventories in anticipation of higher tariffs'. Trump has imposed painful import tariffs on countries around the world in an attempt to boost US manufacturing and reduce his country's colossal trade deficit. He had initially threatened steep 30 percent tariffs on EU imports but late last month Brussels and Washington reached a deal which lowered that to 15 percent, with the bloc trying to secure exemptions for certain sectors. However, in recent weeks Trump has raised the possibility of additional tariffs hitting certain sectors such as pharmaceuticals, which account for 20 percent of the the EU's exports to the United States. The EU-US deal was struck a few days after a meeting of the ECB's governing council at which it decided to hold interest rates steady after consecutive cuts. That was seen as a sign of caution as policymakers waited to see what effects the US tariffs would have. In its last macroeconomic projections in June, the ECB lowered its inflation forecast to two percent for 2025 due to lower energy prices and a strengthening euro. At the same time it lowered its forecast for GDP growth in 2026 slightly to 1.1 percent. Lagarde said that new forecasts set to published in mid-September will take into account 'the implications of the EU-US trade deal for the euro area economy'.

India's Aurobindo Pharma leads race to buy generic drugmaker Zentiva for $5.5 billion, Economic Times reports

India's Aurobindo Pharma is leading the race to buy Prague-based drugmaker Zentiva for up to $5.5 billion, the Economic Times reported on Wednesday, in what could be the largest-ever acquisition by an Indian pharmaceutical firm. Aurobindo is in talks with Zentiva's owner U.S.-based private equity firm Advent International, the report said, citing people aware of the matter. However, Aurobindo, in a statement to exchanges, said no binding agreements have been signed by the company's board. The company's shares slid as much as 4.7% in early trade after the report, before trimming it to 3.7% lower. Advent International and Zentiva declined to comment on the report.

Palm tracks weaker rival vegetable oils lower, exports data caps losses

JAKARTA: Malaysian palm oil futures fell for a second straight session on Wednesday on profit taking and weaker rival edible oils, while strong palm oil exports data for August 1-20 limited losses. The benchmark palm oil contract for November delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange lost 24 ringgit, or 0.53%, to 4,497 ringgit ($1,064.63) a metric ton at closing. A Kuala Lumpur-based trader said the CPO futures extended losses on profit taking after the recent rally, but recouped some of the losses on the back of good export data. 'Moving forward we will track Dalian performance for lead,' the trader said. Exports of Malaysian palm oil products in August 1-20 period rose between 13.6% and 17% from the same period last month, data from cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services and inspection firm AmSpec Agri Malaysia showed. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract lost 1.61%, while its palm oil contract fell 1.1%. Soyoil on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was down 0.54%. Palm extends gains on strong export demand, palm olein prices Palm oil tracks the price movements of rival edible oils as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. Palm oil prices are expected to hold above 4,300 ringgit per ton in the near term on a supply slowdown and a cut in soybean availability amid demand for biodiesel, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) said. Prices of coconut oil are surging in Asia, as supply shortages and booming demand for the nutrient-rich water enclosed within turn the kitchen staple into a premium product, which could drive consumers to shift to alternatives such as palm kernel oil, palm oil, soy and sunflower oil. Palm oil FCPOc3 may fall further toward 4,388 ringgit per metric ton, near the bottom of a wave (4), said Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao.
