Could Chappell Roan get to play the set of her Dreams at Picnic?

Mystery surrounds a replacement for the late, great Dolores O'Riordan for a performance by her old Cranberries bandmates at Electric Picnic this month.
It will be the first time brothers Noel and Mike Hogan will perform the band's songs since the iconic singer's death in January 2018, aged 46.
Speculation is rife that American superstar Chappell Roan may step in, as she sang a widely praised version of The Cranberries' Dreams live after Dolores's death, but there has been no confirmation of this from any reliable sources. Chappell Roan. Pic: John Salangsang/Shutterstock
Electric Picnic announced yesterday that the Hogan brothers will be joined by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and 'a very special guest'.

Inhaler, The Coronas, The Saw Doctors, Jazzy, Mark McCabe, David Gray and Nile Rodgers & Chic were among the names announced yesterday for the festival in Stradbally, Co Laois.
Chappell Roan, 27, was previously announced as a headliner, along with Sam Fender, Kings Of Leon, Hozier, Becky Hill and Fatboy Slim. The festival runs from Friday, August 29, to Sunday, August 31.

TV review: Irish-filmed Wednesday is the perfect watch for parents and teens

If you're looking for something to watch with your teenager, make it Wednesday (Netflix). My wife and our teenage daughter raved about the first series. You hate to be left out of these things, so I made the teenager watch the first episode of season two. The story isn't really the thing, it's just an American take on Harry Potter, with more teenage sass. But the performances are off the scale. Jenna Ortega is hilarious as Wednesday Addams, completely believable as your goth older sister. No smiles, no affection, she 'plays the cello, not the violin' as she puts it herself. Catherine Zeta-Jones is her mother Morticia, a caring Mom behind the tough witch exterior. The stand-out so far in season two is Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore, the school for outcasts that hosts all the action. You forget that he's just very very good at acting. Here he is, The Simpsons' Ned Flanders made flesh, full of go-getting cliches and funny clangers, none better when he introduces a song from 'that great American outcast, Bruce Springsteen'. What really makes Wednesday is that it has Tim Burton all over it. He's the executive producer and directs a few episodes so not only does it look great, but he makes it possible to laugh out loud in terror during a few scenes. (left-right) Joy Sunday, Isaac Ordonez, Luis Guzman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jenna Ortega, Joanna Lumley, Fred Armisen, Emma Myers, Georgie Farmer, Billie Piper and Steve Buscemi arriving for the global premiere of season two of Wednesday, at Central Hall in Westminster, London. The hook in season two is that Wednesday has a stalker. (She also has a black heart, so she's delighted with this.) Just like in season one, where she finally revealed the identity of a monster terrorising the school, we're given a raft of suspects for the baddy. Principal Barry Dort is in the frame because he's such an obvious dork. Billie Piper's superb character Miss Capri is a bit too perfect, so we have her card marked 'psycho' as well. Joanna Lumley is cropping up later as Wednesday's granny, so you'd think it wouldn't be her, which means it probably is But really, the enjoyment here is the lightness of touch, as the story sends up high-school dramas one minute, and super-violent horrors the next. Who knew that bleak evil could be so funny? My daughter for one. I loved watching it with her, laughing at the same jokes, telling her she was only slightly grumpier than Wednesday Addams. We've gone beyond those animated Disney shows like Frozen that were made to give Mom and Dad a laugh as well. You don't need to have watched season one of Wednesday to pick up on season two, but there is no good reason to miss TV this good. Give it a watch, with or without a teenager.

Inside Wendy Lowry's adventure-filled day with kids while Shane competes at FedEx St Jude Championship

There's one very notable absentee from this week's big PGA Tour event FAR APART Inside Wendy Lowry's adventure-filled day with kids while Shane competes at FedEx St Jude Championship WENDY Lowry enjoyed a fun trip to Castlecomer Discovery Park with her daughters while Shane completed his opening round at the FedEx St Jude Championship. That tournament is being held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee while Shane's family are back home in Ireland. 9 Wendy branded the 80-acre Kilkenny activity park 'soooooo good' Credit: @wendyirislowry 9 The tourist attraction boasts fishing lakes, walking trails, kids' play areas and a canopy walkway Credit: @wendyirislowry 9 They also ventured out to Greystones in Wicklow Credit: @wendyirislowry 9 Where Wendy relaxed with pals via a picnic on the beach Credit: @wendyirislowry Shane teed off with a mediocre Thursday round of 73 at three-over-par that left him 11 shots off the lead held by Akshay Bhatia. The American's blistering round of 62 was just a single stroke short of the course record. Lowry's close pal Tommy Fleetwood is in sole place of second place as he sits one shot back on seven-under-par. Justin Rose is another big name in the early mix as he's tied for third with Harry Hall and Bud Cauley on six-under. The Offaly native's day of play featured four bogeys against a sole birdie on the third hole. This $20 million competition serves as the first leg of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs. Rory McIlroy last week faced some online fan backlash after news of his decision to skip it came to light. It's supposed to feature the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings. Cam Young claimed his first tour win in the last qualifying event on Sunday, August 3 before this week's playoffs got going. The field was trimmed to 69 after McIlroy dropped a bombshell by pulling out. No reason was given for the Hollywood hotshot's omission from the prestigious event but it may be down to the new format. In previous seasons, the entire $100 million FedEx Cup bonus pool was distributed based solely on players' final positions at the Tour Championship. Watch Padraig Harrington show how to hit a Happy Gilmore golf swing amid Adam Sandler sequel hype But that changed this year after the format at East Lake was reverted to a traditional 72-hole stroke play event with no starting strokes. Scottie Scheffler is already guaranteed to hold the No. 1 spot after the BMW Championship in two weeks, earning him an additional $5 million bonus before even setting foot at the Tour Championship. Now, the outright winner will pocket $10 million, regardless of FedExCup ranking. Down ace McIlroy is comfortably through to the last playoff event due to his second place standing on the ladder, while Lowry is 17th. 9 A group shot she shared of all her friends gathered round Credit: @wendyirislowry 9 Greystones is among the most beautiful spots in the entire country Credit: @wendyirislowry 9 They braved going in for a dip Credit: @wendyirislowry 9 The couple at Wendy's glamorous birthday party last month Credit: @wendyirislowry But it has clearly created more talking points after he also skipped three of the PGA Tour's eight Signature Events including The Sentry, RBC Heritage and the Memorial Tournament. That last one even raised eyebrows from Jack Nicklaus. The 18-time major winner called McIlroy's no-show at his own event 'a surprise'. As for Lowry, who is ranked in the top 20 on the FedEx standings, he knows a strong week in Memphis could catapult him up the leaderboard before the BMW Championship and Tour Championship later this month. Only the top 50 qualify for the BMW - with another 20 cut from the Tour Championship finale.
