Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The complainant, Chhajulal Bhavsar, who runs an eatery shop in Yash Complex, Khokhra, stated that the incident took place at his shop in the morning of May 25. Chhajulal and his two sons, Premchand and Dilip, were present when Poonam Patel, a resident of nearby Lakshminarayan Society in Khokhra, came to purchase snacks but refused to pay the bill of around Rs 100. When they asked for payment, Patel allegedly responded with abusive language and threats to harm the family if they insisted on the money. Following this, on May 26, Patel reportedly made threatening phone calls to Chhajulal. On May 27, Patel returned to the shop, used abusive language, and physically assaulted Chhajulal multiple times. The complainant said the repeated harassment forced him and his family to file the complaint. Khokhra police have registered an FIR of causing hurt and threatening under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation into the matter.

NPCC slams rural dept for ‘illegal' use of MGNREGA funds

Dimapur: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Sunday expressed outrage and concern over the alarming reports of alleged unauthorised and illegal deductions from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) funds, which have been allocated to beneficiaries across the state, by the state rural development department. Condemning the department for its 'deplorable abuse of power', the NPCC urged the minister of the department and the state govt to take immediate and decisive action against the rampant corruption and ensure that those involved are identified and penalised. In a release, the NPCC cited recent public revelations, particularly the damning exposé by the Kacharigaon Phevima village council."This insidious practice of extortion, reportedly demanded as mandatory 'commissions' or 'cuts', has become an entrenched part of the department throughout Nagaland. It is but a natural extension of the deep-rooted culture of corruption perpetuated by the govt in the state," the NPCC said. "We demand accountability and justice for the rural people of Nagaland, who are being robbed of their rightful entitlements due to this criminal exploitation," it said. The NPCC added that these funds represented the lifeblood of rural aspirations, not only driving critical grassroots-level infrastructure development, but also serving as a vital instrument to provide social security to most of the marginalised communities.

Cyber gangs now hiring ‘mules' at paan shops to dodge police radar

Vadodara: That unassuming paan stall at the street corner may be hiding more than just tobacco and chatter — it might be a front for cybercrime recruitment. During a recent probe into a major cyber fraud case, city police uncovered a surprising trend: gangs scouting for 'mules'— people whose bank accounts are used to route stolen funds — right outside paan shops. "We were interrogating the accused, natives of Rajkot, who operated multiple bank accounts to transfer money siphoned from victims. These accounts were opened using genuine documents of different people. During the investigation, we learned the gang obtained documents by promising people a fixed monthly payout," said BN Patel, Cyber Crime police inspector. The accused revealed that they approached potential mules while hanging around paan stalls in Rajkot. "They struck casual conversations with visitors — often those buying paan or cigarettes — and targeted individuals who appeared financially weak. The gang offered them a few thousand rupees to open bank accounts and later took control of them," Patel told TOI. These accounts were then used to launder stolen money. "Typically, cyber gangs rely on family or friends, but such connections make them easier to trace. Recruiting strangers at public places like paan shops made it harder for police to track the fraud trail," the police said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 3 capsules per dag en na 2 weken zat mijn broek te los! Police had arrested three men from Rajkot last month in connection with a Rs 69 lakh cyber fraud case. This new modus operandi surfaced during questioning, prompting police to explore whether other fraud networks are using similar tactics.
