14 ditch bridges constructed under MGNREGA in two gram panchayats of Bidar district
The construction of drainage ditch bridges along agricultural fields under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) as part of Namma Grama, Namma Raste project has come as boon to farmers of Hokrana Gram Panchayat and Barur Gram Panchayat in Bidar district. As many as 14 such ditch bridges, 11 in Hokrana Gram Panchayat and three in Barur Gram Panchayat, have been constructed. Of these 14, six ditch bridges have been constructed in Chintelgera village, three each in Hokrana and Barur villages and two ditch bridges in Dharmapur village. Each ditch bridge has been constructed at a cost of ₹1.5 lakh-₹2 lakh under the MGNREGA scheme. The construction of these ditch bridges will help farmers access their fields easily and transport their agriculture produce by vehicles during harvest. These ditches constructed beneath bridges ensure smooth flow of water through the channels during the rainy season without flooding the fields, preventing crop damage. Chief Executive Officer of Bidar Zilla Panchayat Girish Badole has said that the drainage ditch bridges constructed along farm fields will help farmers protect their crops from being damaged by water gushing into fields during the rainy season. The zilla panchayat has been taking many such farmer-centric initiatives under MGNREGA to benefit farmers, Dr. Badole added.

UP govt starts work on revival of one small river in every district
The Uttar Pradesh government has started work on reviving one small river in each district of the state by roping in three IITs and other technical institutes for assistance and conducting studies on 'channelisation, course correction, uninterrupted flow of water', officials said. This comes nearly a month after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the district magistrates of all 75 districts to work on the plan to rejuvenate at least one river in each district. According to the plan, the government will map the rivers from the point of their origin to the point of their 'final confluence'. The districts have been given the responsibility to prepare a 'joint action plan' for the purpose. A divisional-level monitoring committee, headed by the respective divisional commissioner, has been constituted to oversee the implementation and quality of the work. The revival effort is receiving technical expertise from premier institutes such as IIT Kanpur, IIT BHU, IIT Roorkee, and BBAU Lucknow, which are preparing river-specific plans based on detailed studies of geographical, ecological, and social factors, the statement said. The campaign, originally initiated in 2018 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme, has now evolved into a more structured and technologically empowered mission. Activities under the programme include stream-cleaning, water channelling, rainwater harvesting, and extensive plantation drives. To ensure smooth implementation, the government has brought together 10 departments: Irrigation, Minor Irrigation, Panchayati Raj, Forest, Horticulture and Food Processing, Fisheries, Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh State Water Resources Agency, Rural Development, and Revenue, it said. These departments are working in synergy at the district level to execute the rejuvenation efforts. District Ganga committees have also been tasked with monitoring the river systems locally and encouraging community participation, ensuring that the revival process remains continuous, inclusive, and deeply rooted in public engagement. The districts have also been asked to undertake extensive tree plantation along the riverbanks as part of the campaign. The officials said that under the plan, while every district will prepare a detailed plan for cleaning the stretch of the concerned river under their jurisdiction, they will also explore ways to restore the water flow, conserve associated water sources like ponds, check dams etc. As part of the initiative, work has already started on revival of the Budhi Rapti river in Shravasti, estimated to be about 67-km-long. Sources said the river alignments are being mapped using remote sensing technology. Another river on which the work has started is the Manorama which originates in Gonda and merges into the Kuwano in Basti District. —With PTI inputs

People will put an end to dynasty rule of DMK in 2026 Assembly election: Edappadi K. Palaniswami
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday said his party would secure an 'absolute majority' and form the next government in the State in 2026. Addressing a gathering of party workers following a roadshow on Thiruchitrambalam Road in Vanur in Villupuram district, he said the people were disillusioned with the DMK and will put an end to its dynasty rule in the 2026 assembly election. 'The DMK has not fulfilled a majority of electoral promises it made to the people in 2021. Though Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been claiming that the DMK had kept all its promises, the reality was that only 10% had been fulfilled,' he alleged. Mr. Palaniswami said: 'In the 2021 election manifesto, the DMK said minimum working days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) would be increased from 100 days to 150 days, education loan taken by students would be waived, and ₹100 in subsidy would be given for every domestic LPG cylinder. But these promises remain unfulfilled. The list is endless.' He said the DMK government was anti-people, and the 100% increase in residential property tax, 150% increase in tax on commercial properties, and the drastic increase in power tariff had hit the people hard. Prices of essential commodities have risen, subjecting the people to untold hardship, he alleged. Mr. Palaniswami said that during his tenure as Chief Minister, an Executive Order was issued, granting 7.5% horizontal reservation for NEET-qualified students of State-run schools in undergraduate medical admissions. He also alleged that a university established by the AIADMK government in Villupuram in the name of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was abolished by the DMK government.

TARATDAC members seek better monthly assistance
Members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the Dindigul Head Post Office. They urged the Centre and the State governments to fulfil their charter of demands. TARATDAC members affiliated to National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) demanded the pension under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme be raised. They said the pension amount was ₹300 and demanded the amount be raised to ₹5,000 a month. They said that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, defined benchmark disability as a person with not less than 40% of a specified disability. However, under the scheme, the person to get the benefits under the scheme should have 80% disability. Also, a person should be above 18 years to get the benefits under the scheme. The criteria should be relaxed and all beneficiaries who apply for the benefits under the scheme should be considered. As of now, it only covers 3.84 % of the total differently abled population, they said, adding that more such persons should receive the benefits under the scheme. The members also sought employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. It must be ensured that the differently abled are also included, they said. The Rajasthan government had passed the Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Act guaranteeing 125 days of employment. A similar Act should be passed in Tamil Nadu for the welfare of the people, the members said. The members also demanded that 35 kg of foodgrains under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) scheme should be ensured and the scheme was implemented properly. The members urged the Centre and the State government to look into the demands and take necessary steps to fulfil the charter of demands. Following the demonstration, they submitted a petition at the Dindigul MP office.
