Emphasising his govt's commitment to bolstering the
rural economy
through diverse activities, Conrad said, "Supporting our artisans and weavers is a core vision of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance govt.
Through various welfare schemes, including support for self help groups (SHGs) and village organisations, we aim to empower local communities and significantly improve livelihoods."
In a boost to the local economy and skill development, the CM announced the establishment of a
handicraft training centre
at Tangmang, which will be equipped with modern infrastructure, machinery, and residential facilities for trainees, enabling them to learn directly from master craftsmen within the village.
During the visit, the CM also held a 'CM-Connect' session, engaging directly with the villagers and listening attentively to their concerns and fostering a direct line of communication.

Northeast has more young population than rest of country: Meghalaya CM
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the northeast region has more young population than the rest of the country. Addressing the 5th Regional Catholic Youth Convention here on Friday he said, "The northeast is not just young it is younger than the rest of India". "This makes our youth not only our greatest strength but also our greatest challenge. How we nurture them will determine the destiny of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and the entire northeast," Sangma said. Emphasising the importance of purpose, goal-setting, and entrepreneurship among youth, he said that "without a goal, you could be working endlessly and achieving nothing." He said, "Reservation has made our youth complacent. We must compete not because we are guaranteed a seat, but because we can win it on merit." Calling for a cultural shift, Sangma urged the youth to believe in themselves and embrace entrepreneurship. "Why do we wait for others to start businesses in our states? Our youth should become the job creators," he said, citing his government's extensive startup and entrepreneurship initiatives in Meghalaya. Underscoring the urgency of youth empowerment, Sangma warned that an unchannelled youth population could become a liability rather than an asset. "The same youth who can build our region can also become a destructive force it all depends on how we guide them," he said. "Above all, be good human beings. No amount of power or success can replace humility, respect, and fear of the Lord," Sangma said. The convention is being organised by North Eastern Regional Youth Commission in collaboration with Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) North East and hosted by Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement.

Second Assam-Meghalaya border pact likely before Aug 15: Paul Lyngdoh
Shillong, In a significant step toward resolving the long-standing border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, MDA government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said a second MoU is expected to be signed between the two states before August 15. Second Assam-Meghalaya border pact likely before Aug 15: Paul Lyngdoh This comes after the first pact signed in 2022, which resolved issues in six out of 12 areas of contention along the interstate boundary. Lyngdoh, who is also a cabinet minister in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance , told PTI, "The proposed agreement is expected to bring five new villages along the disputed block in Ri-Bhoi district under Meghalaya's jurisdiction." He said, "This is a significant step forward in resolving the border dispute. The inclusion of these villages is a result of sustained engagement and negotiation with the Assam government." The announcement comes amidst skirmishes along the interstate border in West Jaintia Hills district earlier this week in which the villagers of Lapangap razed tree plantations initiated by Assam's Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council allegedly in violation of a status quo order. Following the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that the state government decided to post a police team at the village to maintain peace. According to Lyngdoh, the two state governments have also made notable progress in border negotiations in other disputed sectors. "In the Langpih area, a final solution is at arm's length but for a joint inspection to be conducted by the border committees. We are awaiting confirmation from our Assam counterpart headed by Mr. Patowari," he said. On the disputed Jaintia Hills sector, the minister said a resolution was also within reach. Emphasizing that the MDA government is taking concrete action to end the border impasse, Lyngdoh said, "This government is committed to protecting Meghalaya's territorial interests and ensuring that our boundaries are respected."
