SCB gives Rs 23-crore push to modern sports complex
Hyderabad: In a landmark move for the development of the Secunderabad Cantonment area, around Rs 23.5 crore has been sanctioned for sports complex, Dhobi Ghat and tabled in the SCB meeting held on Friday.
Accordingly, there has been a plan to construct a sports complex with cricket practice pitches, badminton courts, a swimming pool, a walking track for seniors, and a seating gallery for spectators. Basic infrastructure, such as water facilities and modern restrooms, is also set to be included. In that regard, the State Government has sanctioned Rs. 23.5 crore for the construction of a world-class Sports Complex at Dhobi Ghat Ground. An official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed.
Apart from this, during the meeting, various other issues were also discussed on sanctioning of certain maintenance works for the water supply and drainage system. Explaining about the sports complex, Sri Ganesh, MLA, Secunderabad Cantonment, said, 'This is the highest-ever amount sanctioned for a single development project in the history of the Cantonment and the completion of the complex will help several sport enthusiasts realise their dreams'.
Addressing another major concern, the MLA stated that the State Government has increased the water supply to the Cantonment area from 5.9 MGD to 6.9 MGD, and is ready to provide more if needed and is also planning to build pump houses, overhead tanks, and a reservoir—if the required land is allocated. Also, there is a plan to construct a multipurpose function hall and an integrated residential school, provided the Board allocates the necessary land. Additionally, there is a plan to revive the Ramannakunta lake and develop it with walking tracks and recreational spaces.

The CM also announced that water lakes will be reduced by conducting road safety survey of main sites and vending zone will be constructed for local vendors. Desilting of Naini lake will also be done and railing will be replaced. The Chief Minister inaugurated the basketball court at DSA ground, distributed sports kits to the players, met the district's medal-winning players, and honoured them. During this, in the felicitation ceremony organised, the Chief Minister honoured the medal winners of Nainital district in the 38th National Games 2025 Uttarakhand and international level medal winning players - Latika Bhandari, Bhumika Jantwal, Nitesh Bisht, Nirmal Bisht, Ansh Bisht, Kanishka Joshi, Surya Patel, Bhagravi Rawat, Shraddha Joshi, Komal, Nvya Pandey, Vaibhav Singh Padiyar, SDM Nawazish Khaliq and other players. In his address, the Chief Minister said that the work of sewer lines and STP is in progress in Nainital. In view of the increasing number of tourists, automatic parking has been approved to overcome the parking problem. Soon, the expansion of Ashok Parking and the construction of Metro Parking will also start, for which permission has been received from the Central Government. He said that the beautification of Maa Naina Devi Temple is going on under the Manaskhand Corridor. Improvement of DSA ground and landslide protection work on Valia Nala and Thandi Road are also being done at a fast pace. Volleyball track has been inaugurated here on the demand of children. An amount of Rs 12 crore is being given for the beautification of Maa Naina Devi Temple, and if required, this work will also be taken forward. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that with these development works, the local people and tourists will get better facilities and smooth traffic, due to which the development of Nainital will gain more momentum. Free entry demanded for medal winners at Smart City swimming pool
Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Swimming Association has demanded that winners of state and national level swimming events be given free entry at the Yemmekere Swimming Pool complex. Association president Yathish Bykampady told reporters on Friday, that the contract to maintain the new swimming pool has been awarded to a private agency, which does not allow swimmers trained by external coaches.
