UP Dalit Family Beaten With Rods, Sticks For Objecting To Cattle Trespass: Cops
A Dalit farmer and his wife were beaten with sticks and iron rods and subjected to caste-based abuse in a village here, police on Sunday said.
The incident took place Friday morning in Anaich village, under the Oonjh Police Station area, over grazing of cattle. Six people have been booked in the matter.
According to police, the complainant was Deepak Kumar Pasi, a landless Dalit farmer, who cultivates urad (black gram) on a sharecropping basis in a local villager's field.
Deepak, police said, objected to another villager's cattle grazing in his field when he, his wife, Sumitra, elder brother, and mother, were assaulted.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhimanyu Manglik said, "When Deepak complained about Rajaram Yadav's cattle grazing in his field, Rajaram became enraged. He hurled at Deepak casteist slurs and with the help of others beat him with sticks and iron rods." According to the complaint, the attackers dragged Sumitra by her hair across the field, beat her, and disrobed her.
Deepak and Sumitra were admitted to a hospital due to the serious nature of their injuries, while the four other of his family members were discharged with little treatment.
Based on Deepak's complaint, police have booked Rajaram Yadav, Dilajeet Yadav, Arvind Yadav, Rajendra Yadav, Parvati Devi, and Tara Devi.

Bareilly: A special Pocso court in Rampur has sentenced a 26-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for brutally raping an 11-year-old hearing and speech impaired Dalit girl and burning her private parts with cigarettes on the night of April 15, 2025. The minor survivor, who remained critical for months with "ruptured internal organs, including uterus", had to undergo at least three crucial surgeries in Rampur, Moradabad and Meerut. The court also imposed a hefty fine of Rs 6 lakh on the convict. "It was like Delhi's Nirbhaya case . The girl had about 14 injuries on her body -- externally, burns, bruises and deep scratches on her private parts, and her internal injuries were also very severe. She may not be able to recover at all," said special public prosecutor, Sumit Sharma. On April 15, she went missing from her village in Rampur district and was found without clothes and with gruesome injuries in a farm the next morning. She was unconscious, and in a critical condition, Sharma added. An FIR was registered under BNS section 65 (2) (rape of woman under 12 years of age), among others, along with the Pocso and SC/ST acts following a complaint by the survivor's mother. Rampur SP, Vidyasagar Mishra, set up three teams which apprehended the accused, Dan Singh Yadav, after a brief encounter on April 16. The accused, a labourer, was identified with the help of CCTV footage and forensic evidence, police said. "Five doctors, who operated upon her, gave their statements. A doctor at LLRM Medical College, Meerut, in her statement, said that during a medical examination, she found deep injuries on the girl's private parts... During the surgery, a complicated diversion route was created in the stomach via the intestines," Sharma said. Police submitted enough evidence that included CCTV footage, a packet of condoms, an empty liquor bottle and a beer can with Dan Singh's fingerprints from the crime scene. Based on the evidence, the court of ADJ Ramgopal Singh pronounced Dan Singh guilty and delivered the verdict on Monday evening. As per the court order, the fine amount will be provided to the survivor for treatment and rehabilitation, Sharma said. Meanwhile, the child's mother said, "Doctors told me that my daughter may not be able to live a normal life again. Dan Singh should have been hanged to death." Panipat: 2 history-sheeters with 23 cases held, had fired upon farmers & police
The Panipat police on Monday claimed to have arrested two history-sheeters for allegedly firing at a police team and farmers in a land dispute case in June. The duo has 23 cases registered against them -- 10 in Panipat and 13 in Uttar Pradesh. The accused in Panipat police custody on Monday. (HT File) The accused were identified as Junaid and Uwesh, both residents of Shamli in Uttar Pradesh. The cases against them involve robbery, snatching, murderous attack, threatening a witness, Arms Act, Gangster Act and others. They were presented before a court and sent to seven-day remand. Police have also recovered four country-made pistols and 12 live cartridges from their possession, the spokesperson added. Addressing a press conference, ASP Harshit Goel said that in the latest case, Narender, a local resident, who owns 11 acres in Rispur village since 2011, had alleged that he was attacked on June 16. 'He said he was working in the field when one Ramesh from Moi village of UP came with at least 30 armed men on tractors, Scorpios and bikes and started ploughing his field. When he objected, they beat him up. Police were informed and when they reached the spot, the accused opened fire on him and the police,' the ASP said. Goel said that during interrogation it was revealed that when the duo was in Panipat jail, they had come in contact with one Deepak. Deepak had told them to illegally occupy a land in the village for which they will be paid. On 16 June 2025, after getting bail, Junaid and Uwesh attacked Narender on the instructions of accused Deepak. The ASP said both the accused committed six attacks after coming out on bail.

9 arrested for ‘conversion racket'; ganghad strong links in Delhi-NCR, say cops
Meerut: UP police busted a "large-scale illegal religious conversion racket" and arrested nine people in Bulandshahr on Monday for allegedly persuading locals to embrace Christianity with promises of financial assistance, education and medical aid. The gang has strong links in Delhi-NCR as well, police said, adding that the arrested individuals are natives of Ghaziabad, Haryana and parts of western UP. Bulandshahr SP city, Shankar Prasad, said they had information that some people camped in Veerkheda village for religious conversion. "On Saturday evening, they organised a gathering involving about a dozen villagers. Initial investigations revealed they were being coerced into converting to Christianity," said Prasad. An FIR was registered under BNS sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 3 (5) (act done by several people in furtherance of common intention) and provisions of the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. Circle Officer Bhaskar Mishra told TOI that eight persons from two Dalit families in the village were persuaded to embrace Christianity around six months ago. "The leaders of this gang are Rajendra (45) and Neelam (40). They were found involved in this work for over a decade. They would target poor families and lure them with money and other facilities," said Mishra. "A certificate was also provided to them after conversion. We have recovered envelopes containing money which was being distributed among people. Each family would get Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 at regular intervals. Additionally, they were being paid for meeting others and promoting the religion... We're probing the possibility of foreign funding too," the CO said. "We've seized bank accounts and have sought details from the bank. Preliminary probe shows that donations were received from various sources and were allegedly distributed. The arrested persons admitted to have successfully converted over a hundred people. We've found WhatsApp groups with over 500 members," Mishra added. Police are now trying to collect information on the extent of the conversion racket and the number of people actually targeted.
