'So senseless': Family of pregnant woman killed by accused drunk driver share their grief
The Brief
Kaitlyn Ellison was killed in a crash on US-23 by a driver who was allegedly drunk.
Ellison, a single mother of three, was seven months pregnant at the time.
Her family is speaking to FOX 2 asking for help and sharing their memories of Kaitlyn.
MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - A grieving Monroe County family is sharing their story after a pregnant single mother of three was killed, allegedly by a drunk driver.
The backstory
Kaitlyn Ellison was seven months pregnant was killed Saturday night by a suspected drunk driver on US-23 near Monroe.
"I'm going to miss her badly," said Lori Ellison, talking about her daughter. "She was a very sweet, happy, loving mother."
Monroe sheriffs arrested 24 year-old Hunter Suto from Ohio, who was arraigned on charges related to Kaitlyn's death Monday afternoon. They say speed and alcohol, were factors in the crash.
"So senseless. Drunk driving this country has gotten ridiculous. It's gotten way out of hand," said Vickie Jensen.
Kaitlyn's daughter Riley has now lost both her parents.
"It's unbelievable that I don't have any more parents. My father passed away when I was, like three," said Riley Denny.
Now, without a mother or a father, 13-year-old Riley has to take care of the family.
"I promised my mother when I was right next to her saying goodbye," Riley said. "I promised her that I would take care of her babies."
Kaitlyn was seven months pregnant by her boyfriend. Their future symbolized with a promise ring. Now Reilly's ring.
"It is life. If I lose it, I don't know. I really do miss my mother," she said.

Formal funeral arrangements have not been made, but a GoFundMe account has been set up - called Kaitlyn's Tragic Loss: Help Her Children."

(FOX 2) - A violent incident caught on camera broke out after the Birmingham Village Fair event Friday, and organizers are calling out the violence that they don't want associated with their event. "This is kind of a national phenomenon, this growing youth violence," said Joe Bauman, the president and CEO of Birmingham-Bloomfield Chamber. Old Woodward after the popular yearly festival had wrapped up for the evening. Three teen girls from West Bloomfield, Southfield and Sterling Heights were arrested. And an 18-year-old victim from Detroit was taken to the hospital. "We haven't been able to confirm whether the four individuals involved were even at the fair," Bauman said. Birmingham police say a different fight at about 830 p.m. Friday, resulted in two teens being arrested, and is also being investigated. Another fight involved a teen from Commerce Township and was arrested Sunday, after an altercation in the Ferris wheel line took place. "It makes me scared that there are things going on," said one resident. As organizers planned for this year's event, they worked with Birmingham police to take precautions. "Prior to this year on Friday and Saturday nights we used to stay open until 11 p.m.," Bauman said. "We agreed that it would make more sense this year to close at 9 p.m. so we gave up two hours of the fair Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to stem any problems that might happen after dark." This is not the first festival in Metro Detroit to deal with safety concerns. Last summer a teen was killed and another one hurt in a shooting near a parking lot at the Michigan State Fair in Novi. And after recent fights at Berkley Days, organizers will not hold one this year but are planning one for 2026. Bauman said the Birmingham Village Fair will stay put. "This is our 60th annual Village Fair this year which were very proud of," he said. "It is one of the longest continuous running fairs in the state of Michigan. "We partner with 15 local nonprofit organizations every year and we share the proceeds of the fair with them." As organizers plan for next year, they want Village Fair fans to know violence has no place at, or near the event. Man who died after Fort Lauderdale boat explosion operated the vessel, FWC says
A father of four died from his injuries after a boat he was driving exploded off Fort Lauderdale on Memorial Day, the man's loved ones announced in a GoFundMe fundraiser. Joshua Fifi, a 29-year-old who lived Fort Lauderdale, was identified as the man who died after the blast, according to the fundraiser page. The fundraiser, organized by Hannah Galindo, said Fifi's 'sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community in shock and grief.' The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state police agency investigating the incident, released a statement Monday night saying Fifi was the operator of the 39-foot Sea Ray cabin cruiser. He was driving the vessel north in the Intracoastal Waterway shortly after refueling around 5:45 p.m. when he tried starting the port, or left side, inboard engine and the boat exploded, according to the FWC statement. Fifi was one of the 14 people on board the vessel, which was near the large sandbar by the New River when the flash explosion occurred. Eleven people — including two young children — were hospitalized with injuries. Some were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit in Miami, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said. 'Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Mr. Fifi during this difficult time,' the FWC said in its statement. Frohn Township home suffers major damage after fire
Jun. 2—BEMIDJI — A house in Frohn Township has suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out on Saturday morning in Bemidji. According to a release from Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire along Martin Lane SE in Frohn Township. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a single-story house with heavy smoke and flames visible from the roof and rear of the home, the release said. A nearby vehicle and garage were also on fire. Initial crews pulled a 2 1/2-inch pre-connected attack line and started a transitional attack at the back of the home. As more crews arrived on scene, additional lines were placed in service and aided in the extinguishment of the fires. A total of 24 firefighters and eight pieces of equipment were on the scene for approximately three hours. The home and its contents suffered extensive damage. No injuries have been reported. The fire is currently under investigation, but it appears to have been accidental, the release said. The Bemidji Ambulance Service, Bemidji Police Department, Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office, American Red Cross, and Beltrami Electric assisted the Bemidji Fire Department at the scene.
