Man Utd have fallen even further since, with an embarrassing 15th-place finish last season seeing them plunge to the lowest point since they were last relegated.
But Mbeumo can help the club return to better days, according to childhood best friend and former Troyes team-mate Franck Momo.
In an exclusive interview he told SunSport 'Believe me, Bryan will have a big impact in that

'He hates to lose so much it's crazy. In the beginning he'll be shy, but once the season goes on, his personality and professionalism will shine. His teammates will follow his lead.'

Franck said: 'He was with the 1999 age group, I was two years older but one thing was certain he wasn't the best player on paper.
'I remember the first time when he was promoted to come and play with us in the reserves team and I asked the coach why Bryan and not the others. I got a simple answer.

'You know when you're in an academy working hard and sometimes get to play with your seniors but then in an important game something remarkable happens, that was it for him.

He'd already made his Ligue 1 debut and played a few games, but Troyes got relegated that season.
There was a silver lining for Mbeumo.
With big earners gone to balance the books, he became a regular. He played 40 games in Ligue 2, scored 11 goals, and caught the eye of PSG, Monaco, and Lens.
They all showed concrete interest in him but he chose to move out of the country of his birth and sign for Championship side

'He's made it to Man United now but at the time, going from Ligue 2 to the Championship, it didn't make sense to most people.
'Like think about it, he could have gone and still be in France but he just decided, this is where I want to be.'

In his Premier League debut season, aged 22, Mbeumo scored eight goals in 38 appearances and could have had more had he not hit the woodwork seven times.

So much so that Samuel Eto'o, legend-turned-president of the Cameroonian FA, made getting Mbeumo to play for them his mission.
Cameroon's national team manager Emmanuel Buddy Mbang Kollo recalls the journey of getting Mbeumo to play for the Indomitable Lions. He says: 'We tried to get him for the last Afcon in 2022.
'To be honest I think he was first thinking about playing for the France national team but we kept on trying.
'I think our encouragement came from the fact he used to come to Cameroon every year so we just kept on knocking.

He also hinted how United players will enjoy having him at the club, saying: 'He's a top player and that makes my job easy.

Since Sir Alex left in 2013, Man Utd haven't won a title, have suffered turmoil on and off the pitch, and their transfer business has been ridiculed.
But one thing they're doing right is buying players like Mbeumo - someone who brings the qualities of hunger, humility, and hard graft.
That is a good start.

Benjamin Sesko facing Man Utd or Newcastle decision dilemma with Amorim willing to flog Hojlund to make room for him
BENJAMIN SESKO could choose his Premier League dream team after Manchester United rivalled Newcastle with a £74million offer. Toon are also working on a deal for RB Leipzig striker Sesko, 22, after lodging a similar bid earlier this week but United have now made their move. 8 Benjamin Sesko is a top target for both Man United and Newcastle Credit: Getty 8 Ruben Amorim will make space in the team for Sesko Credit: Getty 8 Eddie Howe also wants Sesko to strengthen his frontline Credit: AFP The Red Devils offered an initial £65m plus around £8.9m in performance-related add-ons. Mighty Mag Man Utd 'reject approaches from THREE Premier League clubs and two Italian giants' for Harry Maguire MANCHESTER UNITED have rejected a stunning FIVE approaches to sell Harry Maguire this summer, reports suggest. The future of Maguire, 32, had been uncertain this summer as United eyed a potential clearout following their worst-ever Premier League season that saw them finish a lowly 15th place. 1 Man Utd have rejected five bids to sell Harry Maguire this summer Credit: Getty And the England international has had the chance to leave Old Trafford this summer following offers from three Premier League clubs and two from Italy. However, Red Devils transfer bosses have rejected each one of these deals, according to the Daily Mail. And the report adds that United are considering offering him a contract extension to allow him to see out him career in Manchester. Maguire's current £190,000-a-week deal at the club expires at the end of this upcoming season. The former Leicester star is thought to be keen to stay on at Old Trafford, where he arrived for a then record-breaking £80million fee for a defender in 2019. It's understood no talks have yet taken place regarding a possible extension. In 2023 Maguire had been on the cusp of joining David Moyes' West Ham in a deal worth around £30m before it collapsed. Paul McGrath shares rare family pic to mark granddaughter's birthday as fans all make the same observation
An Irish celeb was among those bowled over by the fabulous photo THREE GENERATIONS Paul McGrath shares rare family pic to mark granddaughter's birthday as fans all make the same observation PAUL McGrath shared a sweet photo from his granddaughter's birthday - with fans noticing the striking similarity between him and his son Chris. The Irish footy legend has aged incredibly well given he's only a few months short of turning 66 and hitting the pensionable mark. Advertisement 2 McGrath in his pomp while starring at the 1994 World Cup in the US 2 The 65-year-old still looked fit as a fiddle while celebrating in Rosslare's Kelly's Resort Hotel Credit: @paulnumber5 The former Aston Villa and Manchester United defensive rock captioned it: "Celebrating my granddaughter Talia's 15th birthday." A common theme among the replies from his Instagram followers was how his appearance belies his advanced age. In slightly theatrical fashion, Keith asked: "Is that you on the left or right Paul?!" Another social media user extended that sentiment to include Talia. They gushed: "The resemblance is remarkable among the three of you, happy birthday young lady!" Advertisement Finally Maia Dunphy noted: "What a gorgeous photo!! Your son is the image of you!!" The two clubs the centre-back hero is most associated with are actually currently mired in one of the summer's most layered transfer sagas. Villa's star striker Ollie Watkins is ready to step into the void if Man Utd are unable to lure Benjamin Sesko to the club. Newcastle have launched a £78m bid to try to beat United to the Slovenia international, with RB Leipzig now keen to do business with the Toon. Advertisement And there is growing scepticism in Germany that PSR-stricken Man Utd will come in with an offer to compete with Eddie Howe's side, who have the advantage of being able to attract a nine-figure fee for Alexander Isak. SunSport understands that following interest from Arsenal in January, Watkins feels the time is right to leave Villa Park. Fans slam 'utter woke nonsense' as Tottenham star announces bizarre kit number change And his wishes may overlap with Aston Villa's, who also face a battle to keep their summer spending within PSR limits. The Villans were fined by Uefa earlier this summer for breaching the European body's financial rules. Advertisement Unai Emery had been keen to sell the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey to meet the Premier League's requirements, but have yet to receive the interest they had hoped for. As a result, a bid of between £40m and £50m could be enough to prize Watkins from Villa. BONUS OF THE BUY This would also have the bonus of giving United funds to spare to solve their other major problem position - holding midfield. But a move for Watkins is not inevitable if Man Utd are unable to attract Sesko. Advertisement SunSport understands that Ruben Amorim is looking at two strikers playing in his home country of Portugal. Samu Aghehowa scored 27 goals for Porto last season after agreeing a deal with Chelsea which fell through over an ankle injury and image rights. And Benfica's Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored 30 goals last term, made a name for himself in England by scoring twice at Wembley as Greece nabbed a shock 2-1 win against the Three Lions. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claims that Juventus have offered Dusan Vlahovic to United if the Red Devils are unable to sign Sesko.
