Op Curi Air: Illegal water connection uncovered at Mantin farm
In a statement today, SPAN said the farm had made an illegal pipe connection to draw water for use on the premises and in its workers' quarters.
"SPAN, together with Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan Sdn Bhd (Sains), carried out Op Curi Air at a farm suspected of illegally tapping into the water supply network.
"Checks revealed an unauthorised connection made without the operator's permission.
"The illegal tapping was done directly from a pipe connected to a Sains meter," the statement read.
Chlorine tests confirmed that the water was treated and supplied by the operator for use in farm operations and the workers' quarters.
The case is being investigated under Section 89(9) of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (Act 655), which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.
SPAN warned that unauthorised tapping of treated water is a serious offence and would result in legal action.
"Further action, including cutting off the connection and a full investigation, will follow.
"The public is urged to notify their local water operator if they detect any suspicious activity involving illegal water connections or the theft of treated water.
"Reports or information on water pollution can be submitted via https://sismas.span.gov.my (SPAN's sisMAS system)," it added.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two more individuals are believed to have fallen victim to a scam involving a man falsely claiming to hold the honorific title of "Datuk Seri." Two days ago, MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong revealed that his office had received six reports from individuals who were allegedly scammed by a person posing as a "Datuk Seri." One victim reportedly lost RM400,000 to the individual, who claimed to be running an investment scheme. Chong mentioned that the man in question had previously contacted his office and requested a press conference to clear his name, but later withdrew, citing health concerns. "He claimed he couldn't attend due to high blood pressure," Chong told reporters at a press conference held at Wisma MCA on Monday (July 28). Following the exposure of the alleged scam, Chong said the individual had threatened legal action against both him and the Council of Datuk-Datuk Malaysia (MDDM). "We have no intention of apologising. If he truly holds the title, he should come forward and prove its authenticity. He claims to be a 'Datuk Seri' with the phrase 'Ahli Istana Anak Angkat' above his name - but is that legitimate?' Chong questioned. Chong also displayed a copy of an identity card allegedly belonging to the man's partner, who referred to herself as "Putri," noting that the listed residential address was linked to the title "Undang Luak Johol Ke-14." He said the documents would be submitted to the Datuk Lembaga Suku Biduanda Raja Balang Luak Johol for verification. Chong urged others who may have fallen victim to the scam to lodge police reports. MDDM president Datuk Samson David Maman said the council had also received two calls from individuals claiming they were deceived by the same person, although the victims had yet to come forward. "We regularly receive complaints about bogus 'Datuk' or 'Datuk Seri' titles. We urge the public to verify any such claims through the official Bahagian Istiadat dan Urusetia Persidangan Antarabangsa website," he said. Meanwhile, Datuk Hamzah Limin, the Datuk Lembaga Suku Biduanda Raja Balang Luak Johol, reiterated that traditional titles under the Luak Johol jurisdiction are only valid if recommended by the Datuk Undang Johol and officially conferred by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan at Istana Besar Seri Menanti. "Any conferment carried out outside of official state ceremonies—such as in hotels or private venues—is not valid," he stressed. Hamzah also warned the public against the misuse of traditional symbols and titles, noting that some individuals have used unauthorised emblems, forged documents, and royal-style language such as "Duli Yang Maha Mulia," which is reserved exclusively for the state ruler. He added that such acts are now punishable under existing laws. "No titles such as 'anak angkat', 'puteri', or 'putera' have been issued by the current Datuk Undang. The public must remain alert to avoid being misled," he said.

The remand order until Saturday (Aug 2) was issued by Magistrate Yuhanis Mohd Roslan after allowing the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today. No bull: Trader loses RM100,000 to fake ‘Datuk' promising lucrative cattle rearing investment
JOHOR BARU: A honey product trader lost more than RM100,000 after being lured into investing in a cattle-rearing project in Thailand by a businessman with a 'Datuk' title. Mazli Hamzah, 37, said he first met the businessman in 2024 and exchanged contact numbers with him for business networking purposes. 'In March this year, he called me saying he wanted to meet as he was interested in helping grow my business, including marketing my product overseas. 'We met frequently after that, but in July, he told me about a business opportunity involving investment in a cattle-rearing farm in Thailand, where the cows were meant for Hari Raya Aidiladha,' he said during a press conference at a shopping mall here on Monday (July 28). Mazli added that he was initially sceptical about the offer, but the man, who is in his 40s, later brought him to meet a Tabung Haji officer at Menara Tabung Haji in the city centre. He claimed that both men mostly discussed the cattle-rearing project, which convinced him that it was a legitimate business opportunity. 'Earlier this month, I handed the businessman more than RM100,000. Soon after that, he kept asking me for more money, which made me suspect that he just wanted my money. 'Everything was done verbally, with no black-and-white agreement between us. However, he did provide me with a receipt after I gave him the money to invest,' he said. Mazli added that he continued calling the businessman for updates on the investment, but his calls and WhatsApp messages went unanswered. 'I then went to his restaurant in Bandar Dato Onn and saw him sitting a few tables away. I called his mobile phone, which he glanced at but ignored. 'When I approached him, he saw me and immediately left the restaurant,' he said, adding that he has since lodged a police report. It is learnt that the businessman was fined RM200,000 by the Sessions Court here last year for using a fake 'Datuk' title from Pahang. He had admitted to fraudulently using a letter of endorsement for recipients of a degree, medal or award from Pahang Darul Makmur, believed to be a fake document. The businessman also pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of displaying the Darjah Indera Mahkota Negeri Pahang emblem on his vehicle at the same time and place, which was also believed to be fake. When contacted, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed that a police report had been lodged and said investigations were ongoing. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
