Cruise ship worker explains shocking protocol put in place if you get fired whilst working onboard

Daily Mail2 days ago
Being fired from your job is unpleasant – but what happens if you're dismissed while floating in the middle of the ocean?
Those unlucky enough to be sacked from a job on a cruise ship face that reality.
And now a professional dancer who worked for one of the world's biggest cruise operators has shared what really happens if you're let go while onboard.
Alley Kerr used to perform on Liberty of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's 3,600-capacity vessel.
She's now a content creator who documents her insights into the cruise world – as well as her travel adventures – online.
And she describes what happens when you're sacked at sea as 'weird'.
'Obviously they can't just get rid of you right away', she said in a video uploaded to YouTube.
'They will usually wait until the next turnaround day where they can have you disembark'
'But until then, any time someone is on the verge of being fired or [has been] fired, they usually have security outside your room to watch you.
'Yeah, it's weird.'
Last year, a cruise worker explained the one way on board staff can quickly find themselves without a job.
The one situation that catches people out is the random breathalyser tests the morning after a big night out, reports Lad Bible.
'What gets people is the random alcohol tests every month at 10am where people are still drunk from the night before,' a ship employee wrote on Reddit.
'Drinking is a huge part of ship life because of how cheap alcohol is in crew bar. It's like $1.50 per drink.'
In her previous videos, Alley discussed how much her colleagues would get paid while working on ships.
And shockingly, she claimed some of her colleagues would make a loss at times, especially during the rehearsal periods on land.
She said: 'I find that during this time, for a lot of dancers especially, it's a net loss.
'There are ways to budget and everything but grocery stores are not close by, everything is really far away, and then even though you're getting housed it has nothing in it so you end up spending quite a bit on services like food, Ubers, and cleaning supplies.'
The influencer also explained the other ways to make additional money while sailing.

‘America's favourite dancer' joins Strictly line-up

'America's favourite dancer' will join Strictly Come Dancing. Alexis Warr, who was given the accolade in 2022 for winning the television show So You Think You Can Dance, will seek to make a similar impression on British audiences when the new series airs this autumn. She will be joined by another newcomer, Julian Caillon, the Australian ballroom dancer and physiologist. The announcement comes amid changes to the Strictly line-up following a series of scandals on the show. Giovanni Pernice was left out of the 2024 line-up following an accusation by Amanda Abbington, the actress and former dance partner, of 'inappropriate, mean, nasty and bullying' behaviour in training. He was cleared of any physical wrongdoing following a BBC investigation, but a complaint was upheld for his use of 'belittling' language. Fellow Italian Graziano di Prima was initially confirmed for the 2024 series, but was let go by the BBC after reports of misconduct with his partner Zara McDermott. In an Instagram post at the time, he wrote: 'I deeply regret the events that led to my departure from Strictly. My intense passion and determination to win might have affected my training regime. Respecting the BBC HR process, I understand it's best for the show that I step away.' Warr said: 'I've admired Strictly for years, so joining this incredible family is such an honour. I can't wait to step into the ballroom, pour my heart into every moment, and share my love of dance with the UK.' Caillon, who shares videos on social media of his work training with the elderly, added: 'I've watched it for years, especially cheering on all the amazing dancers I know and work with who've been part of it. I can't wait to get stuck in, have some fun, and be part of something special.' The new pair will join fellow professionals Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola.

Ed Sheeran reveals the terrifying thing crazed fans threatened to do to his daughters after breaking into his home

Ed Sheeran has revealed how crazed fans have threatened to kidnap his young children - and even broken into his home. The British singer, who shares daughters Lyra, four, and Jupiter, three, with wife Cherry Seaborn, told Australia's 60 Minutes on Sunday night that he employs extensive security measures due to the threats. 'It's things that people don't really even take into account,' Ed said of his frightening fan encounters. 'Like kidnap threats and s**t like that. We've had attempted break-ins, things left on my car. 'It's way more sinister than just fans turning up and wanting selfies.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, . Ed said that he has had to accept that his family will always need protection. 'We have a level of security that probably won't change until I pass away. That's just our life now,' the pop star lamented. Ed went on to explain that he is fiercely protective of his daughters' privacy and does not allow fans to take photos of them - even facing off with those who try. 'I've had some real arguments before,' he said. 'I'm fine with taking pictures, but I just think it's weird with a four-year-old and a three-year-old.' The Bad Habits hitmaker admitted that he wishes life was more 'normal' for his family but has accepted that fame has its downsides. 'To be within the public sphere, you have to take it all, the good and the bad,' he said. 'But I think I would definitely want a more normal life for my kids.' Ed married his childhood sweetheart Cherry in 2019. The pair, who grew up together in the same town in Suffolk, rekindled their romance in 2014 and tied the knot in a small ceremony five years later. It comes after news that Ed is coming to Down Under next year. The global superstar, who was last in Australia at the beginning of 2023 for his Mathematics Tour, announced that he will be playing a slew of shows across the country as part of his Loop Tour. The A Team hitmaker is set to tick off New Zealand first, performing at stadiums across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, before making his way over the Tasman. Ed will start the Australian leg of his tour in Perth at Optus Stadium on January 31, before heading to Sydney's Accor Stadium for two shows on February 13 and Valentine's Day. Then, the 34-year-old will be heading to Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium for two shows on February 20 and 21, followed by two gigs at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on February 26 and 27. Ed will then finish up his tour in Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval on March 5, marking over a month of touring across the country. The tour is set to bring a brand-new live show to Aussie fans, bringing music from his much-anticipated album Play.
