HBO's Harry Potter cast in full as first look at new Hagrid is revealed
Fans of Harry Potter have something magical to look forward to, as HBO has confirmed the production of a Harry Potter reboot with an impressive ensemble to bring our favourite wizarding world characters back to life.
Starring in the new adaptation based on J. K.Rowling's celebrated series will be Dominic McLaughlin, stepping into the iconic role of Harry Potter himself. McLaughlin snagged the part after producers cast their nets wide to find an actor who could embody the boy wizard.
Joining him are Alastair Stout as the loyal sidekick Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton, set to portray the brilliantly brainy Hermione Granger.
Back in May, executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod shared their enthusiasm over assembling such a stellar core group of young actors, reports the Express.
"The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen," they praised.
Every potential Harry was considered, with the producers extending their gratitude to the countless hopefuls who tried out.
"We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."
As the wizarding excitement builds up, which other actors have conjured roles in this much-anticipated project?
Confirmed cast
The first take of the 11-year-old in his wizard robes was shared this week, signalling the start of production. Alongside the recognisable trio, HBO disclosed additional members joining the roster of familiar Hogwarts faces.
Rory Wilmot promises to bring Neville Longbottom to life, while viewers might be keen to spot him in Netflix's forthcoming series, Out of the Dust. Meanwhile, Amos Kitson joins the franchise as the infamous cousin Dudley Dursley.
Meanwhile, Harry's adoptive parents Petunia and Vernon Dursley will be played by The Diary of a Teenage Girl's Bel Powley and Flowers' Daniel Rigby.
Sherlock's Louise Brealey is set to portray Quidditch coach Madam Hooch, while Andor's Anton Lesser will take on the role of wandmaker Mr Ollivander.
Lesser, who previously appeared in Game of Thrones for HBO, has also had roles in The Crown, Wolf Hall and ITV's Endeavour.
Comedian Nick Frost is will play half-giant Rubeus Hagrid, with HBO already sharing snaps of him donning the unmistakable Hagrid costume. Frost is best known for his role as Ed in Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead.
Janet McTeer from MobLand will step into the shoes of Professor Minerva McGonagall, a character famously brought to life by the late Maggie Smith in the original films.
BBC star Paapa Essiedu is ready to take on the role of Severus Snape, alongside stage actor Luke Thallon as Hogwarts staff member Quirinus Quirrell.
Paul Whitehouse, known to fans as Sir Cadogan from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, will portray Argus Filch in the upcoming spin-off.
The ensemble cast is rounded off with American actor John Lithgow as Dumbledore, newcomer Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Ripley's Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and The IT Crowd's Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley.
Lastly, but certainly not least, The Crown's Bertie Carvel will portray the political character Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, aptly cast following his role as former Prime Minister Tony Blair in the Netflix sensation.

'Prince Harry must be welcomed back to royal fold after Meghan rubbed salt in wounds'
Chatter that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are to return to royal duties continues - and one expert has argued it's the right move Troubled Prince Harry must be welcomed back into the royal family to help heal emotional wounds, a columnist has argued today. But Sarah Vine, a veteran newspaper columnist, claims Meghan Markle has "re-opened or even rubbed salt" in these wounds, trauma said to continue to linger following the death of his mother, Princess Diana. Ms Vine has given her opinion on talk the Duke of Sussex, 40, will make a dramatic return to The Firm some five years after he and Meghan Markle quit life in the US for opportunities in California. Sharing her opinion, Ms Vine wrote: "These are complex, deep-seated emotional wounds that may well take a lifetime to heal, if they ever will. That's why, fundamentally, taking steps to welcome the wayward duke back into the family is the right thing. When someone is in as much pain as Harry clearly is, they lash out at anyone within reach, especially those tied to them by blood. "But if you can grab them and hold them to your heart, show them the love and understanding they need, soothe their hurt with the balm of forgiveness, you can perhaps help them begin to move forwards." In her column for Daily Mail, the expert acknowledges Prince William is likely to have experienced similar grief following the family tragedy, which happened 28 years ago next month. However, she argues - in her opinion - William has had the "strength and stay" of the Princess of Wales in recent years, while Meghan "has had the opposite effect" on Harry. Ms Vine continued: "Instead of helping him heal his emotional wounds, she seems to have re-opened them - or even rubbed salt in them, some might say. "Instead of encouraging him to shape his own identity within the Royal Family, she has helped him turn his back on it. Which might have been fine if together they had embarked on something truly life-affirming. But they didn't. "They've walked away, but they keep looking over their shoulders. They are obsessed with the very thing they supposedly hate, and that's never a good frame of mind to be in." The damning opinion piece comes after another royal expert yesterday also claimed Prince William and Prince Harry should end their rift. Andrew Norman Wilson, though, argued a failure to do so soon would put lead to great tensions when William, Prince of Wales, becomes king. "When Charles vacates the stage, as one day he must, and William is anointed, a middle-aged brother in exile, on non-speakers with the sovereign but with a potential audience of billions, could do incalculable damage," Mr Wilson wrote. "It would be miles better [than Harry writing another book, for instance], then, that the Sussexes be brought in from the cold. Both sides should be seeking, not only diplomatic and political help, but personal counsel."

First look at Nick Frost as Hagrid in Harry Potter HBO TV series
Filming is under way on the Harry Potter TV series and today the first picture has been released of the British actor and comedian Nick Frost as the beloved groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. Frost, best known for Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, undertakes the role originally played by Robbie Coltrane in the Harry Potter film franchise. Having sold more than 600 million copies worldwide, Harry Potter is the bestselling book franchise and spawned an eight-movie series that grossed almost $8 billion at the global box office. But with almost 15 years since the last film starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint was released, the magical world of the original stories is about to arrive on our screens again in the shape of an ambitious HBO streaming series set to run across a decade. All seven books will be adapted at a budget reported to be greater than House of the Dragon's $200 million per series, so Potter fans are likely to be in for a treat when the new series is finally released. Here's everything we know so far about the programme. What is the new Harry Potter series about? The new series is described as a faithful adaptation of the original seven books that make up the Harry Potter series. Each season will bring Harry Potter and his magical adventures to a new audience. Has the show started shooting? Yes. HBO announced that production began on the series on 14 July 2025. When is Harry Potter released? The show is being made at Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden near Watford. It's the same place where the original film series was made between 2001 and 2011, concluding with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. The first season of the new Harry Potter series is expected to hit our screens sometime in 2027, although no official date has yet been given. How can I watch in the UK/US? In both the UK and the US, the series will be released exclusively on HBO Max's streaming platform. Max is yet to launch in the UK, but is expected in 2026. It will be available as a new standalone streaming platform, but also as part of Sky packages for satellite customers used to seeing HBO shows on the channels like Sky Atlantic, Sky Max and Sky Comedy. • John Lithgow on the Dumbledore backlash: 'I wonder how JK Rowling copes' Which books are being adapted? Early reports had each season of the series focusing on one book in the Harry Potter series, which consists of seven novels. The books in the Harry Potter series are: • Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997) • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998) • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999) • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000) • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2003) • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005) • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007) How many seasons are there? It was originally expected that each season would tackle one book, but the chief of HBO, Casey Bloys, said the project could run for 'ten consecutive years'. The later books are more expansive, particularly the final novel, Deathly Hallows, which was split into two parts for the film adaptation. Is JK Rowling involved? Yes, the author of the original books will serve as executive producer on the show. At a press conference, Bloys mentioned that Rowling was 'very, very involved in the process of selecting the writer and the director'. He has also disregarded comments about Rowling's off-screen reputation. 'That's a very online conversation, very nuanced and complicated, and not something we're going to get into,' he said. 'Our priority is what's on screen. Obviously, the Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive and about love and self-acceptance.' Who is behind the show? Francesca Gardiner, who previously worked on Succession and Killing Eve, was chosen to be the showrunner after producing a pilot script and being interviewed by Rowling. Mark Mylod, best known for his work on Succession, Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, will direct multiple episodes of the wizarding drama as well as serve as executive producer. Are the original cast involved? It is unclear whether some or any of the original cast will return for the series. 'It seems to me that they are wanting to make a fresh series,' Daniel Radcliffe, who originally played the wizarding star, told Entertainment Tonight in 2023, 'which it feels like it'd be distracting to have old, haggard Harry also entering from stage left.' Who is in the cast? The Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin will take on the titular role — at 11 years old, he's the same age as Daniel Radcliffe when he first brought Harry Potter to life in 2001. Arabella Stanton, also 11, will play Hermione Granger and has previously starred in the West End production of Matilda the Musical. Completing the trio, Ron Weasley will be played by Alastair Stout, whose only acting credit thus far is a brief appearance in a Jersey Royal potatoes advert. John Lithgow has been cast as Albus Dumbledore, having recently appeared in the papal thriller Conclave and as Roald Dahl in Giant in the West End. Janet McTeer, the 63-year-old Oscar-nominated actress, will play Professor Minerva McGonagall, originally played by Maggie Smith. The actor and comedian Nick Frost, best known for his leading roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, undertakes the role of the beloved groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid, the role originally taken by Robbie Coltrane. First brought to life by Alan Rickman, the misanthropic potions professor Severus Snape will be played by Paapa Essiedu, whose career has spanned Shakespearean theatre to the contemporary hit series I May Destroy You. Luke Thallon, best known for his stage work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, will portray Quirinus Quirrell, Hogwarts' skittish but sinister Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. The comedian and presenter Paul Whitehouse will play the bad-tempered caretaker Argus Filch. Katherine Parkinson, whose comedy performances in The IT Crowd earned her two Baftas, will play Ron's protective mother, Molly Weasley. The franchise's infamous blond-haired Slytherin, Draco Malfoy, will be portrayed by Lox Pratt, who will star in the forthcoming BBC drama Lord of the Flies adaptation. Johnny Flynn, who starred as David Bowie in the hit musical drama Stardust, takes on the role of Draco's arrogant father, Lucius. The emerging child actors Leo Earley, Alessia Leoni and Sienna Moosah will play Hogwarts students Seamus Finnigan, Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown, respectively. Harry's cruel guardians, Petunia and Vernon Dursley, will be portrayed by Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby. Powley rose to fame on CBBC's spy series MI High, and has since taken on roles including Princess Margaret and Claire Clairmont, stepsister of novelist Mary Shelley. Rigby is best known for his leading role as Eric Morecambe in the 2011 drama Eric and Ernie. Bertie Carvel, whose credits have spanned Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical to Tony Blair in The Crown, will play the Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge. It has also been announced that Rory Wilmot will play Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson will be Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey plays Madam Rolanda Hooch and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. Who is rumoured to be joining the cast? One key character who remains to be cast is the Dark Lord himself, Voldermort, played by Ralph Fiennes in the original film series. Names rumoured for the role include Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy, House of the Dragon 's Rhys Ifans (who played Xenophilius Lovegood in the Deathly Hallows: Part 1), Oscar-winner Christian Bale and former Doctor Who lead and House of the Dragon actor Matt Smith.

Outlander prequel stars shed light on key time travel detail
Outlander fans got an answer to one big question Outlander enthusiasts have finally received a conclusive response to one of the most intriguing mysteries on the Starz historical drama series, reports the Express. In a video shared on the Outlander Instagram account, stars Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield, who portray Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston respectively, made a significant disclosure. The pair read out fan theories from the internet suggesting that both Henry and Julia were time travellers. They then confirmed these theories as accurate, with Corfield stating: "We both time travel. We also both get into a car crash," and Irvine chiming in with: "You nailed it." The video was captioned: "Nothing is more satisfying than having a long-awaited fan theory finally validated. #BloodOfMyBlood." Following this confirmation, many Outlander fans began speculating, with one individual proposing: "So what if Claire's parents conceived her in the past but had to go back to 1918 for whatever reason had her and she's actually the original 200 year-old baby?". Another speculated: "I'm theorizing here whether some Randall will disturb Henry and Julia's generation and make them move to France [sic]." A third fan pondered: "What if they raised Faith? What if they will be reunited at season 8 with Claire? What if ... OMG Can't wait [sic]." Yet another queried: "So are they still in the past could we meet an older couple that are Claire parents as they never made it back to her brianna with her maternal grandparents too [sic]." Another person chimed in: "One theory of time travel is the traveler is thinking of someone who's in the past so was Claire thinking of her parents? I don't think Jamie alone could have pulled her back in time." This clip has sparked further intrigue following years of fan theories about the fate of Claire Fraser's (portrayed by Caitríona Balfe) parents, who were presumed dead following a car accident in Outlander. The question of whether time travel runs in families within the Outlander universe has led to speculation about whether one or both of Claire's parents had the ability to traverse through the stones. Diana Gabaldon, the creator of Outlander, has previously expressed disinterest in delving into the backstory of Claire's parents, thus leaving much to fans' imaginations. However, it seems that the scriptwriters for Outlander: Blood of My Blood have decided to tackle this mystery head-on, with the new trailer revealing that Claire's parents indeed journey through the stones after their honeymoon in Scotland ends in a car crash. In the upcoming narrative, Henry is on a quest to locate Julia, who finds herself adrift in the 18th-century Scottish Highlands, where she meets Ellen MacKenzie (played by Harriet Slater), caught in the throes of a clandestine affair with Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Starz on August 8 and on Prime Video via MGM+ on August 9
