Zawya15 hours ago
Oman-based Tenable Fire Engineering Consultancy (FEC) has appointed Sam Alcock as its new Chief Executive Officer.
In his new role, Alcock will lead the consultancy's strategic expansion, with a strong focus on scaling operations in existing markets and developing new regional and international opportunities.
He had joined the consultancy in 2011 as a fire consultant and was appointed Dubai director in 2016, said the company in a statement.
He has been instrumental in positioning Tenable FEC as a trusted fire engineering partner across the GCC and internationally, expanding the consultancy's footprint in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Africa and India while maintaining strong profitability and client relationships.
Founded in Oman in 2010, Tenable Fire Engineering Consultancy provides a comprehensive range of quality, fire and life safety services, including code consulting, fire system design, performance-based fire design and third-party verification within the built environment.
Last year, Alcock helped the company achieve a 25% increase in revenue and led a company-wide restructuring to strengthen long-term agility in 2025, said the statement.
With Tenable FEC now Salamah-approved in Saudi Arabia and the local office fully operational, the consultancy is targeting a 30% growth in 2025, driven by large-scale infrastructure and masterplanning projects, it added.
Lauding the appointment, Founder and Chairman Sultan Al Maskri said: "Sam embodies the ethos of our organisation and has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and a clear commitment to our company values."
"His technical knowledge, business acumen and drive for innovation have made a huge impact throughout our organisation over the years and he is an integral part of our growth. I am confident under Sam's leadership, Tenable FEC will continue to deliver exceptional value to our clients and strengthen our position in key markets," he stated.
Alcock holds a bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Management and is recognised for his collaborative leadership style.
He has championed workplace wellness initiatives and inclusive practices throughout the organisation, contributing to a positive internal culture and high-performing teams.
On his new role, Alcock said: "It's a privilege to be awarded the role of CEO at such a pivotal time for the business. Our team has built a strong foundation for growth and I look forward to continuing this momentum."
"My focus will be on expanding our capabilities, enhancing service delivery and strengthening our reputation as a leader in fire and life safety consultancy," he added.
In 2024, Tenable FEC delivered over 540 projects valued at $6 million, spanning mixed-use and hospitality developments and pre- and post-contract fire engineering services for high-end projects such as those along the Dubai Water Canal.
So far this year, the Omani consultancy has been awarded projects worth $4.2 million, keeping it on track to exceed last year's performance and achieve its targeted 30 per cent growth this year. -TradeArabia News Service

US rate cuts open window for GCC bond market gains

Matein Khalid It is now all but certain that the Federal Reserve will cut the US overnight borrowing rate, currently 4.25 percent, by at least 25 basis points at its September 18 Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting. The labour market is losing momentum, while tariff-driven inflation has yet to show up in the Consumer Price Index. The Trump White House has ramped up pressure on Fed Chair Jerome Powell to deliver a fresh round of rate cuts. Treasury secretary Scott Bessent has publicly urged a 150-175 basis-point reduction in the Fed funds rate to jumpstart US growth. If the FOMC yields, the policy rate could sink to 2.5 percent by next summer. ADVERTISEMENT Such a move would sharply reduce the interest income earned by GCC family offices and corporates on three-month US dollar bank deposits, which now yield around 4 percent or less in the Gulf. Savers and investors in the region will therefore need to consider reallocating from cash holdings into bond and sukuk strategies within the GCC market. Credit risk, duration risk and interest rate risk are unavoidable when investing in the GCC bond market, which is predominantly denominated in US dollars. The kingdom of Bahrain sovereign bond has a coupon of 6.75 percent and a maturity date of August 20, 2029. Bahrain may be well into non-investment grade territory but, based on guarantees or attachment of specific cash flows, Fitch assigns this issue of Bahrain debt a BBB credit rating, which is investment grade. The four-year bond offers a yield to maturity of 5.65 percent. If the Fed funds rate drops to 2.5 percent in the next easing cycle, the yield to maturity on Bahrain's bonds may also decline, allowing investors to book capital gains. Investors in the UAE can also buy bonds and sukuk issued by prime Emirati banks which are majority-owned by the governments of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. For instance, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) has a subordinated debt issue which offers a 6.32 percent coupon and a maturity date of April 04, 2034. This FAB bond is trading at 104 and provides a yield to maturity of 5 percent. FAB has the lowest funding cost in the UAE, with an S&P rating of AA-. Investors seeking Dubai bank exposure may look to Emirates NBD, the city's largest universal bank. Its perpetual bond carries a 6.25 percent coupon, is trading at 103, and has a next call date of August 25, 2030, translating into a yield to call of 5.65 percent. Suppose the Federal Reserve cuts its benchmark interest rate at every FOMC meeting after September, as Wall Street and the US Treasury secretary now expect. In that case, bond market yields will also fall, and the price of GCC sovereign and bank debt will rise. Regional investors should not wait for the Fed funds rate to bottom at 2.5 percent in the coming easing cycle. By then, GCC bond prices will likely have already risen sharply, as cash yields compress in response to the Fed's dovish pivot. While it is prudent for every investor to retain a cash cushion to cover unexpected emergencies, the Wall Street dictum that 'cash is trash' is most relevant when the Fed slashes its policy rate. Although bonds typically offer higher yields than bank deposits, investors remain exposed to risks. A downgrade in an issuer's credit rating or a rise in interest rates, driven by inflation or shock events such as a sudden war or oil price spike, as seen after Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait or Russia's invasion of Ukraine, can trigger losses. The biggest risk to intermediate-term bonds issued by GCC banks and governments is the supply glut in the oil market and a plunge in Brent crude below its current $66 spot price Also published on Medium. UAE: SCA warns investors against unlicensed individual, company in Dubai

The Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) has issued a fresh warning to investors against dealing with an individual and a Dubai-based company found to be operating without approval. In a notice published on its website, the regulator said Thoufeek Raja Abdul Majeeth is not licensed or authorised to carry out activities under its supervision. 'The SCA assumes no responsibility for any transactions or dealings with him in this regard,' the statement noted. The SCA also cautioned the public against FX GLOBE Marketing Management, a Dubai-based firm, stressing that it is not authorised to conduct regulated financial activities or provide related services. The authority urged investors to verify the licensing status of any entity before transferring funds or entering into agreements, warning that transactions with unlicensed operators could leave them vulnerable to fraud. The move is in line with SCA's mandate under Federal Law No. 4 of 2000 to protect investors and safeguard the integrity of financial markets. This is the latest in a series of advisories issued by the regulator. On July 17, the SCA cautioned the public against engaging with Sigma-One Capital, Sigma Wealth World Financial, and Sigma One Cap Marketing Services, none of which are licensed to operate in the UAE. The warnings come on the heels of a series of Khaleej Times investigative reports that uncovered how such entities operating through shell firms, fake offices, and offshore registrations lured UAE residents into transferring thousands of dirhams through aggressive cold calls and misleading trading dashboards.

Tokio Marine Insurance UAE simplifies claims with Kodak Alaris' AI-driven automation

Tokio Marine Insurance UAE, a leading provider of comprehensive insurance solutions in the region, has significantly accelerated its claims registration process through a new partnership with Kodak Alaris. By deploying AI-driven document automation technology, the insurer has reduced claims processing time by 90%, streamlined operations, and improved overall customer satisfaction. 'Insurance is more than just a policy, it's a promise,' said Tsuyoshi Yamasaki, General Manager at Tokio Marine Insurance Dubai. 'When our customers reach out, they're often in distress. It's our job to be there at the time of need.' Until recently, the claims team at Tokio Marine Insurance UAE manually processed hundreds of submissions a day, particularly for car insurance. Each case required multiple documents - police reports, Emirates ID, driver's license, vehicle registration - and involved extracting dozens of critical data points, all by hand. With up to 600 claims arriving daily via email, the workload placed immense pressure on staff and exposed the process to inevitable delays and errors. That pressure reached new heights during the unprecedented floods of 2024, which drove claim volumes to record levels across the country. The experience reinforced the need for a future-proof solution that could scale under pressure and maintain the company's high service standards. To address the challenge, Tokio Marine Insurance UAE turned to Kodak Alaris - a trusted technology partner with deep experience in document intelligence. Together, the two teams designed and implemented an AI-enhanced automation solution, anchored by Kodak's Info Input platform and powered by Microsoft Document AI. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Kodak Alaris engaged in in-depth discovery sessions and ran a focused proof of concept that validated results from the outset. Since deployment, the time required to process each claim has dropped by 90%, enabling faster communication with customers - often within hours rather than days. The automation platform now handles three times the daily claims volume, while exception handling has decreased by 60% due to improved accuracy and automated validation. With a legacy dating back over 144 years, Tokio Marine Insurance has long been committed to its guiding principle: 'QUALITY, ALWAYS.' This latest digital transformation initiative reinforces that promise by simplifying a historically complex aspect of the insurance journey - claims processing. Staff who once focused on manual data entry are now redeployed to handle complex cases requiring human judgement, enhancing both job satisfaction and customer outcomes. 'It's not about replacing people; it's about empowering them. Our staff are now spending more time resolving edge cases and less time correcting typos. That's where human judgment really shines,' Yamasaki explained. Beyond operational efficiency, the volume of data captured per submission has increased significantly, enriching insights available for better decision-making, audit trails, and pricing models. 'Being able to automate data extraction means we can now add several more fields into our insurance systems per claim,' shared Mohamad Bader, Senior Manager – Information Technology at Tokio Marine Insurance UAE. 'It's helping with compliance, forecasting, and tailoring our offerings better than ever before. The biggest change however is the elevation in customer satisfaction. Faster response times mean fewer follow-ups, and greater trust. People feel cared for, and that's what sets us apart.' In an era where digital transformation often comes with hype, Tokio Marine Insurance UAE's partnership with Kodak Alaris stands out for its tangible, meaningful results. It's a case study in how thoughtful use of automation and AI can not only solve business problems - but also make life easier for the people behind each policy. 'Technology is most valuable when it improves lives. With Kodak Alaris, we've built a bridge between operational excellence and human empathy. The company's solution enhances our human effort, makes our operations smarter, and most importantly, helps us take care of our customers better,' concluded Bader.
