Robbie Brewer, veteran race car driver, dies after NC crash
Courtney Marquette wrote that her father was a mentor and best friend to her in a tribute posted to Facebook on the morning of Aug. 10.
'There wasn't much my dad couldn't fix/do when it came to his cars & racing was his absolute life which was no secret to anyone,' Marquette wrote. 'He left this world doing what he loved but it was just way way too soon.'
FloRacing reported that Brewer's car veered towards the outside wall in the center of turns three and four with four laps remaining in a race in the Sportsman division.
'Unfortunately, I had a very direct line of sight into Brewer's vehicle,' Tom Radulovic, who was in the stadium as a fan when the crash occurred, told the Winston-Salem Journal. 'When they put him on the stretcher, I was able to see his hands, looking for that little wave athletes often give. There was no movement. My heart sank.'
Bowman Gray Stadium said in a statement provided to the Journal and the Associated Press that Brewer was taken to an area hospital following 'an on-track medical incident.'
'Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, and highly respected competitor among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie's family and friends at this time,' the statement reads.
USA TODAY has reached out to the track for the statement and did not receive an immediate response.
The Journal reported that Brewer's death was the first at the track since 2002.
Veteran race driver loved at track
Driver Brad Lewis, whose race shop is close to where Brewer lived, told the Journal that Brewer was 'like a big brother' and added that he was 'a wheelman through and through.'
'I'm bet everybody in that pit area has a Robbie story and that's a testament to what he meant to that place and to all of us who compete over there,' Lewis said.
Randy Smith, who has worked at the stadium for 16 years and was the track's chief flagman Saturday night, told the newspaper that, 'I don't think there is one person that can say anything bad about Robbie.'
Brewer was an 11-time winner in the Sportsman division at Bowman Gray and made 311 career starts at the historic stadium across all divisions, according to FloRacing. The racing outlet noted that Brewer was twice a 602 Modified Tour champion and a 602 Super Limited (Late Model) Series champion.
Marquette said in her tribute that her father had 'a smile that was contagious' and an offbeat sense of humor.
'I'll always try to remember the goofy jokes we had,' she wrote.

Bears HC Ben Johnson shares thoughts on Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel
Being a coach in the NFL, as Chicago Bears fans know well, is a tough job. When you have a significant amount of success, you are beloved. When you only have a little bit of success or anything below that, you are expected to be fired. That may be the case for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. He hails from the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, so you know he's a smart cookie. However, the Dolphins may have a tough season due to their roster construction deteriorating over the years. When the team has been good, McDaniel has gotten them into the playoffs. A lot of that has been dependent on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's health, which has been spotty recently due to concussions. It's unfair to use the preseason as a measure for regular season success, Miami faces a tall order in the AFC East featuring the perennial division champion Buffalo Bills, a a resurgent New England Patriots team, and a hopeful New York Jets team, there is a scenario where the Dolphins come in last. Bears head coach Ben Johnson doesn't have that kind of pressure on him right now. There's pressure to win, but his seat is far from hot in his first season. Johnson should have a large runway of time as he tries to turn the franchise around after so many lousy years. Following the Bears and Dolphins' preseason tie last Sunday, Johnson was asked about McDaniel and showered the veteran coach with praise. 'I've always respected him from afar," Johnson said. "When he was in San Francisco to now Miami, some of the stuff, in particular the run game, it's next level. There's no one else that does it quite like he does. He finds a way to find space to the inside and perimeter runs. He can gash teams that way. He is a little bit of that mad scientist. There's a lot of respect there just from a schematic standpoint. I know they've got a good one there. When (Dolphins QB) Tua's (Tagovailoa) been healthy, they've been rolling, and they've been a playoff team really for all three years. I think he does a great job with that crew and I'm looking forward to our relationship continuing to grow.' That's some high praise for Johnson. He complimented McDaniel's offensive genius, which is saying something considering Johnson's resume as an offensive mind. Tesla Shareholders Are Suing the Company — What It Means If You're an Investor
A shareholder lawsuit recently filed against Tesla (TSLA) continued a run of bad news for the Elon Musk-led electric vehicle (EV) company, though its stock price hasn't been too badly affected by it. Read More: Learn More: The class-action suit was filed on Aug. 4, 2025, Reuters reported. In it, shareholders accused Musk and Tesla of securities fraud for concealing dangers involving its self-driving vehicles — which are considered a key growth driver for the company. What could this lawsuit mean for the stock and shareholders? Also see whether it's time to sell Tesla stock after one analyst called its valuation 'insane.' Self-Driving Test Problems Shareholders accused Musk and Tesla of 'repeatedly overstating the effectiveness of and prospects' for their self-driving technology and in turn 'inflating' the stock price and prospects of the company, Reuters noted. The suit followed Tesla's self-driving tests in June that produced less-than-stellar results. It also came only days after Tesla was found to be partly liable in the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a Tesla car operating in Autopilot mode in 2019, Investor's Business Daily reported. Check Out: What Does It Mean for Investors? Despite the lawsuit's negative headlines, it hasn't had much impact on Tesla's stock price. The company's shares closed at $309.26 on Aug. 4. They fell only slightly the next day to close at $308.72 and then rose to a high of $320.47 on Aug. 6 before finishing the session at $319.91. The stock closed even higher at $339.03 on Aug. 11. As Investor's Business Daily noted, some analysts have warned investors against overreacting to negative headlines involving Tesla's self-driving technology. 'We've learned to ignore headlines related to Autopilot reliability,' Piper Sandler analysts wrote in a note to clients. 'But the robotaxi rollout has breathed new life into this topic, and we feel compelled to comment on recent media intrigue. This case does not have direct implications for Tesla's [Full Self-Driving] rollout.' But Other Problems Loom While Wall Street shrugs off Tesla's legal problems, the company faces numerous headaches in other areas — including a stock price that is down more than 11% in 2025 due to a combination of political and business dynamics. The political dynamic has to do with Musk's role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk is no longer affiliated with DOGE, but controversy surrounding the organization battered his public image and the Tesla brand. On the business front, Tesla has suffered from plunging sales in key global markets as it comes up against more competition from other EV makers. The company is likely to take another hit from a changing regulatory environment under the Trump administration. That includes an end to the $7,500 EV buyer tax credit. Tesla also stands to lose a major revenue stream in the form of regulatory credits sold to legacy automakers to help them offset their gasoline-powered fleets and avoid fines, according to Zacks Investment Research. Those fines have been eliminated under Trump's spending bill — meaning Tesla could lose billions of dollars in future revenue tied to the credits.
