Nagpur: While several major cities across the country are reporting a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases, the situation in Nagpur appears to be under control. Data for the year 2025 so far indicates a relatively low number of positive cases and a manageable public health scenario in the city.
According to health department data, testing in Nagpur has been conducted consistently, with a noticeable uptick in May. This increased testing led to the detection of 10 positive cases last month. However, the overall positivity rate remains significantly lower compared to national trends.
By the end of May, 71 individuals were tested, of which only 13 tested positive for Covid-19. Importantly, no fatalities have been reported in Nagpur due to the virus this year.
Of those who tested positive, 11 patients have already been discharged from hospital care, with only two active cases currently under treatment.
This data suggests that despite rising concerns nationwide and in neighbouring cities, Nagpur has so far succeeded in keeping the virus spread under control. The city's healthcare system has effectively managed the new cases, as reflected by the high recovery rate and minimal number of active infections.

Schools in Madurai district step up precautionary measures for COVID-19

As few COVID-19 cases are being reported in the State in the last few days, schools in Madurai district have quietly stepped up their precautionary measures to avoid any form of infections among students. As per the health officials, though no formal guidelines have been issued, many schools have taken proactive steps to ensure students stayed safe without sparking unnecessary fear. While some institutions were cautious about giving instructions directly to students, others have promoted everyday hygiene as a regular habit. At the Government Model School in Austinpatti, few teachers have begun wearing masks on their own initiative, hoping students would mirror the small acts of responsibility. Elumalai Government Girls Higher Secondary School administration has been encouraging students to take bathe daily, wash their hands regularly, and maintain personal hygiene. Similarly, at Keelaiyur Government High School, the school administration has distributed soap oil, and students have been advised not to touch commonly used surfaces and to help keep classrooms and shared spaces clean. In addition to these efforts, Madura College Higher Secondary School has instructed its students to wear masks, and for those without one, the school distributes masks free of charge. The school administration said that the admission process was also conducted with masks in place. To further promote hygiene, three wash basins near the entrance have been reinstated for regular handwashing, they added. Private schools in Madurai district are equally careful. They have been guiding students to eat well, build immunity, and adopt healthy habits. 'Though there are no active COVID-19 cases in the district, as a general instruction by the Department of Public Health, schools can advise the children to wear masks, control overcrowding at closed spaces or on the premises and those unwell can be advised to take leave as a preventive measure,' a senior official from the Health Department of the Madurai Corporation said. Also, young children, especially in primary classes, should be made aware of basic hygiene through simple, age-appropriate methods which they can easily understand and follow, the official added. K. Lara Dutta remembers her late father: 'I carry your heart dad'

Actress Lara Dutta 's father, retired wing commander LK Dutta, passes away in Mumbai on May 31st at the age of 84. Remembering her late father, Lara penned a heartfelt note on social media. The former Miss Universe revealed that her father faced his illness like the true soldier he was. Her note started like this, "My wonderful, brave, fighter of a father, went quietly into the good night on the 31st of May...... He fought long and hard against an illness that debilitated him over the last few months.... He bore pain with the stoicism of a battle worn soldier and displayed a courage and willingness to beat the odds, that sometimes defied all logic..... He rewrote any concept I had of the body breaking down or succumbing to an inevitable end. ..." Revising some fond old memories with her dad, she wrote, "Some moments with my father are etched into my bones forever..... my dad hoisting a 3 year old me up on his shoulders to look at the stars at night and call out all the constellations...... the feet that I stood on as a five year old to learn to hand that I held as I scampered as fast as I could beside him to match his stride as we walked through eucalyptus groves and planned how I would study under Carl Sagan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Conheça o Alarme que afasta os Ladrões Verisure Leia mais Undo .... the lap I sat on while I air played an imaginary piano to the sound of his favourite Richard Clayderman tape....." This company changed India's medical disposables market. Here's how

Live Events The indispensability of medical disposables was in full focus during the Covid-19 pandemic, when constant supplies of gloves, masks, and gowns became critical in the fight against viral transmission and cross-contamination. Without these single-use products, the number of Covid-related casualties worldwide would be even higher than the World Health Organization's cumulative toll of seven million-plus Of course, the importance of medical disposables goes beyond pandemics and emergency scenarios. Single-use healthcare products improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency by saving on time that would've otherwise gone into sterilisation processes. They also help medical facilities adhere to regulatory compliances and enforce strict infection India, one of the world's largest healthcare markets, Plasti Surge Industries Pvt Ltd (PSI) has pioneered the healthcare consumables market with its range of disposable kits, sterile surgical accessories and devices, surgical gowns, and protective apparel. For 36 years and counting, it has observed stringent quality control at its manufacturing facility in Amravati, Maharashtra. The result is a client roster that includes humanitarian agencies, municipal corporations, state governments, and the who's who of pharma, biotech, and healthcare. Think UNICEF, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Telangana state government, All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Apollo Hospitals, Abbott, and Haffkine, to name its many honours, PSI was named one of India's Top 100 SMEs by the India SME Forum and the Ministry of MSME. Under the leadership of Executive Director Aditya Daga, PSI has carved a niche in India's cut-throat medical disposables market. Its decades of experience providing medical supplies for the public sector, innovative mother and child delivery kits, a pan-India distribution network of more than 450 dealers, and a presence in 16 international markets helped it stand out from a pool of over 15,000 applications at the ET MSME Awards 2024 — India's largest and most credible MSME awards — where it was awarded 'Pharmaceutical and Healthcare MSME of the Year'.As much as PSI is a force to reckon with when it comes to single-use medical products, it's also turning the tide for healthcare sustainability. The environmental impact of traditional healthcare disposables is a concern — India produces over 550 metric tonnes of such waste daily, exacerbating the problem of medical waste management since single-use gloves, gowns, and kits take hundreds of years to break down. Through its vertical PSI Dispo, Plasti Surge Industries is not only aligning with global sustainability goals, but making compostable disposables accessible to institutions such as concept of single-use healthcare disposables was virtually unknown in India until PSI scaled their production. In adapting to the times and setting new benchmarks for eco-friendly medical products, the company is proving that it is up to the task of remaining committed to responsible more winner vignettes of the ET MSME Awards , keep an eye on this space.
