NMC chief issues notices to 5 officials
Nagpur: Despite a blanket ban on hawkers on Sitabuldi Main Road and their relocation to Maharajbagh Road, many vendors returned to set up stalls on the banned stretch on May 25. The hawkers' act, violated instructions issued by top civic officials, has prompted immediate action from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari on Monday issued show cause notices to five senior officials, questioning their failure to enforce the orders. Those served notices include two assistant municipal commissioners (Dharampeth zone and encroachment dept), and a superintendent (enforcement dept). The officials have been asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules and the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949. According to the notice, multiple instructions were issued earlier to ensure no hawkers return to the Sitabuldi Main Road. However, their reappearance indicates a serious lapse in supervision and enforcement. The civic body has warned of strict disciplinary action if satisfactory explanations are not submitted within three days.

15 vertical gardens to help prevent garbage dumping in rivers, drains
1 2 3 N agpur: Urban beautification and environment conservation will go hand-in-hand as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will soon set up 15 vertical gardens across the city. These gardens will be installed on the protective walls of bridges over the Nag and Pohra rivers and other major drains with an aim to reduce pollution and stop the widespread dumping of garbage into these water bodies. According to civic officials, many citizens dump garbage into the drains from the parapet walls along main roads. To discourage this practice and improve the appearance of the city, municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari directed the creation of vertical gardens on these walls. The project is expected to cost Rs5.10 crore and will feature a variety of decorative plant species, including Riho, Jade, Pandanus, Purple Heart and Wedelia. Wire mesh will be installed on the front side of the gardens for safety and protection. NMC has already given administrative approval, and tenders will be invited shortly. A detailed survey identified 15 specific locations across the city for installation of the gardens. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Officials said the vertical gardens will not only enhance the visual appeal of the city's busy roads but also serve an important environmental purpose by discouraging waste dumping and helping improve the condition of the city's water bodies. No Covid-19 surge, just 2 active cases
Nagpur: While several major cities across the country are reporting a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases, the situation in Nagpur appears to be under control. Data for the year 2025 so far indicates a relatively low number of positive cases and a manageable public health scenario in the city. According to health department data, testing in Nagpur has been conducted consistently, with a noticeable uptick in May. This increased testing led to the detection of 10 positive cases last month. However, the overall positivity rate remains significantly lower compared to national trends. By the end of May, 71 individuals were tested, of which only 13 tested positive for Covid-19. Importantly, no fatalities have been reported in Nagpur due to the virus this year. Of those who tested positive, 11 patients have already been discharged from hospital care, with only two active cases currently under treatment. This data suggests that despite rising concerns nationwide and in neighbouring cities, Nagpur has so far succeeded in keeping the virus spread under control. The city's healthcare system has effectively managed the new cases, as reflected by the high recovery rate and minimal number of active infections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like O novo dispositivo que os idosos usam para ajudar na neuropatia (dor nos nervos) A arte do herbalismo Undo A closer look at zone-wise data for 2025 offers insights into the localised impact of the virus. NMC, OCW restore clean, adequate water supply for Dabha residents
Nagpur: After days of distress due to inadequate and contaminated water supply, thousands of households in Nagpur's Dabha area finally received relief. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW) restored both the quantity and quality of water in several affected localities. Residents of Orange Metro City, Gurudatt Society, Ganesh Nagar, Madavi Layout, New Shanti Nagar, and Shivhare Layout were facing low water pressure and irregular supply, forcing authorities to resort to tanker water. In response, OCW connected these areas to the newly constructed Dabha-2 AMRUT Elevated Service Reservoir (ESR), significantly improving water distribution. In parallel, complaints of contaminated water near Jagdish Nagar Community Hall, under Dabha-1 AMRUT ESR zone, triggered a detailed inspection. OCW deployed a RoboCam to investigate the internal condition of pipelines and discovered old and unidentified connections that were likely sources of contamination. The pipelines were flushed and cleaned, but with issues persisting, OCW quickly proposed a Renewal and Replacement (RR) plan. NMC sanctioned the RR proposal on priority. A new pipeline was laid, and the old one — prone to leaks and unauthorised connections — was decommissioned. All illegal connections were removed, and clean water supply was restored with proper pressure. These coordinated efforts by NMC and OCW brought considerable relief to the residents, many of whom expressed serious health concerns. With the new infrastructure now in place, water quality and supply have stabilised, and citizens have expressed satisfaction with the improvement. For any further concerns or information on water supply, citizens can contact the NMC-OCW helpline at 1800 266 9899 or email contact@
