Manchester Airport's Flight Academy to re-open for kids this half term
The airport's Runway Visitor Park (RVP) will be bringing back its successful Flight Academy programme for children.
The 90-minute sessions give children the opportunity to learn about the different job roles that help ensure Manchester Airport remains in action throughout the year.
The first part of the session takes place aboard a retired DC10 airliner where youngsters sit in the cockpit, learn about job roles such as cabin crew and ground operators and they can 'take control' of the flight deck.
They then head outside to have a look at Manchester Airport's runways, watch planes taking off and landing and see some of the various jobs that they've learnt about in action.
After the session, visiting families can enjoy the RVP's facilities, including 'stunning views' over the airfield.
Sights to see include the viewing platform, overlooking aircraft such as the giant A380 coming and going at close quarters, the Park's retired airliners including the iconic Concorde, and a sizeable play area and on-site café.
A popular 360-degree flight simulator is also available, so children can experience what it's really like at the controls of an aircraft. Attractions cater to everyone from casual visitors to aviation enthusiasts.
New for this half-term, a 'Supersonic' short tour of the legendary Concorde is also available from £6 per person.
It's a 20-minute tour that will give visitors the opportunity to sit in the luxurious leather seats where royalty & celebrities once sat whilst discovering the history of this unique and innovative aircraft.
The classic hour-long Concorde tour is also available from £18 per person and includes a visit to the flight deck.
You can now book sessions between Wednesday, February 19 and Saturday, February 22 for children who are aged four to seven.
If your child is aged eight to 12, you can book the session for Wednesday, February 19 or Thursday, February 20.
Tickets cost £14 per child and one accompanying parent can enter for free. Parking is available to those taking part for the full day at the reduced rate of £5.

Air traffic at airport in Britain halted after jets clip wings
Two easyJet planes clipped wings on the ground at Manchester Airport in Britain Friday morning leading to a temporary halt of ground traffic, although no injuries were reported. File Photo (2020) by Neil Hall/EPA-EFE Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Two planes clipped wings at Manchester Airport in Britain on Friday, briefly pausing flight operations on the ground at the facility, officials confirmed. No injuries were reported when the two easyJet planes collided on the ground at about 6:30 a.m. local time, an airport spokesperson said. "We suspended operations briefly while they were assessed to see if they could taxi back to a stand, which they could so operations resumed after a few minutes," the airport said in a statement to reporters. Both flights were set to depart the international airport, with one bound for Paris and the other headed to Gibraltar. Britain-based easyJet is a multinational low-cost airline group. The company operates a fleet of 318 Airbus aircraft and boasts that it has "one of the youngest fleets in the industry." The airline was working on re-booking affected passengers Friday, according to airport officials. "EasyJet can confirm that the wing tips of two aircraft came into contact while taxiing to the runway at Manchester airport this morning. The aircraft returned to stand to disembark customers who have been provided with refreshment vouchers while replacement aircraft are arranged to operate the flights," an easyJet spokesperson told The Guardian in a statement. "We apologize to customers for the delay to their flights. The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority." Last weekend, a Delta Airlines flight clipped another aircraft at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Dua Lipa's Ibiza Party Trick Is a Ridiculously Hard Yoga Pose
Where Dua Lipa goes, yoga tends to follow. Even, if you can believe it, when where she goes happens to be a paddleboard floating in the sea surround the Balearic Islands. To celebrate her forthcoming 30th birthday, Lipa has been in Ibiza with her now-not-so-sunburned fiancé Callum Turner and a crew of their closest friends and family. The trip to the island, so far, has included a seafood lunch at the exclusive, celebrity-favorite Jondal beach club, where tables were piled high with oysters, langoustines, and a chocolate, cherry, summer berries birthday cake for Lipa. Later, the crew all went to dance the night away at superclub DC10. All part of the fun? Splashing about in a yacht-filled harbour and attempting gravity-defying yoga poses at the same time. This vacation contains multitudes: good food, partying with pals 'til dawn, custom Jacquemus, and core-strengthening exercises. Photo: Backgrid Spotted doing a headstand (that's 'sirsasana' in Sanskrit) in a sparkly, double-layered burgundy and crystal bikini from Oséree, the pop star appeared just as proficient on a paddleboard as she is in a regular studio. As one follower put it in the comments: 'Has she ever had a bad day?' Lipa's skill is ridiculously impressive, but not all that surprising. On tour, she's documented how she makes time for yoga first thing in the morning—after she's taken her supplement cocktail, mind you. At home, she's shared snaps of yoga mats laid out for a weekend group class, too. Many of her stage outfits tend to expose her rock solid abs, and with a powerhouse voice like that, you can expect that some serious core work is going on behind the scenes. While we may not be able to gift you with the comparable core strength of Dua Lipa at the peak of her powers in Leo season, we can vouch for a solid yoga routine to benefit everything from your cortisol levels to your digestion. Will you be boat posing, doing the crow, or headstanding a la Dua this training season?
