‘AR Rahman always brings an element of surprise,' says singer Madhushree: ‘He adds his touch later, and it turns out to be magical'

Renowned playback singer Madhushree, who has carved a niche for herself in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema with her soulful voice and timeless songs, recently opened up about her creative process and experiences with some of the biggest names in the music industry during an interview with O2India. One name that inevitably came up in the conversation was that of Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman. Reflecting on her collaborations with Rahman on iconic tracks like 'Kabhi Neem Neem' and 'Marudhani', Madhushree shared how his style never fails to surprise her. 'Rahman ji always brings an element of surprise… whether it's this song or Kabhi Neem Neem, he adds his touch later, and it turns out to be magical,' she said. The singer revealed that often, Rahman records his parts after the initial track is laid down, adding a unique energy that transforms the song entirely. Speaking of her experiences with them, she highlighted their distinctive approaches and artistic personas. 'Whether it's Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, or Rahman ji, they more or less follow the same process. First they compose the song, and then they give you the space to rehearse. That's where there's some similarity.' However, she emphasized a key difference that makes South Indian composers stand out: their deep involvement and clarity during the recording process. The singer siad, 'One thing about South Indian music composers is that they're so good, you never feel lost. They'll guide you with exact notations, where to pause, what expressions to use, they spell everything out, so you don't have to figure it out on your own. They are that good.' Madhushree went on to praise MM Keeravani specifically for his precision and directorial clarity during recordings. 'When you go to sing for M.M. Keeravani, you don't have to do anything, just follow whatever he says. All of them understand singers really well.' When asked about the key differences between South Indian and Bollywood music industries, Madhushree didn't hesitate to point out a cultural distinction she finds admirable. 'There, everyone works according to time. If you're called at 1 pm, the session starts at exactly 1. They are extremely punctual. They follow rules and regulations. That's the main difference.'

Was Aamir Khan fired from Shah Rukh Khan starrer Darr? Sitaare Zameen Par star spills truth

Darr was one such film that may have changed the trajectory of Shah Rukh Khan 's career in the film industry. He portrayed the negative shade brilliantly in Yash Chopra's film, also starring Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol. King Khan's portrayal of an obsessed lover won him accolades. But can you imagine Aamir Khan in this role? Although he did not reveal for which role he was part of the film, he was in the movie until Yash Chopra decided to fire him. Talking to Zoom, Aamir Khan made a big revelation. While discussing the hit films he refused to do, the topic of Darr came up. He was asked about rejecting Darr. To this, Khan corrected the interviewer and revealed that he had been kicked out of Darr. Yes! You heard that right. Aamir admitted that he never said 'no' to the film. The reason for his being fired was that he demanded a joint reading session with the other actor. The Sarfarosh star wanted a joint narration from Yash Chopra, as it was a two-hero film, and it was a principle he followed. However, the ace director did not want it, so he fired Khan from the film. He further added that everyone has their way of working, and if there is more than one actor involved in a project, then they should listen to the narration together. However, this did not happen in Darr, and as a result, he was not included in it. 'Darr ko main na nahi bola tha, Darr ko maine haa bola tha. Mujhe Darr se nikala gaya tha,' said the actor. We wonder if the iconic cult movie would have been the same if Aamir had been a part of it. And if he was considered for Sunny Deol's role, then we might have seen the two Khans sharing the screen space. But some things are not meant to happen. Well, on the work front, Aamir Khan is geared up for the release of his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par, which also stars Genelia Deshmukh. The film will hit the screens on June 20 and is said to be a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par.

Why Aamir Khan Was "Fired" From Shah Rukh Khan's Darr

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan's 1993 film Darr marked a significant chapter in his career. The superstar played a negative role in this Yash Chopra-directed romance thriller. Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol were also a part of the cast. But do you know that it was Aamir Khan who wanted to play the titular character? Aamir Khan revealed that it was Yash Chopra who fired him from Darr. The actor, in a conversation with Zoom, revealed, 'I didn't say no to Darr. I said yes, but I was fired from the film because I wanted a joint narration. There were two actors, and I've this principle that if there are two actors, then the director should give a joint narration.' He added, 'Yash ji did not want to do that, so he fired me. Everyone has their own way of working. I think when two people are working together, they should listen to the narration together, so we can work together as a team. They should all listen to the film together. That didn't happen in Darr, so I was fired. I was removed from Darr.' Aamir Khan said that he also wanted a joint narration for his 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna. The 60-year-old shared screen space with Salman Khan in this Rajkumar Santoshi directorial. Aamir Khan said, 'Like in Andaz Apna Apna, when Rajkumar Santoshi was narrating for the first time, Salman cancelled the meeting thrice. We got there, but he was not present. His secretary said, 'Salman will listen to it later, you guys carry on, he is doing the film'. I said I will not listen to it either. I will only listen to it when Salman is present. He cancelled thrice, but we finally listened to it together.' Shah Rukh Khan played the role of an obsessive stalker, Rahul Mehra, in Darr. He makes it his mission to woo Juhi Chawla's Kiran, despite her being in love with another man (Sunny Deol). At present, Aamir Khan is awaiting the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. The film, which is the sequel to his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, will premiere on June 20, 2025.
