Telugu Film Workers Demand 30% Pay Hike, Strike Threatens To Stall Big-Budget Productions
The Telugu Film Employees Federation announced an indefinite strike from Monday, demanding a 30% wage hike, affecting over 10,000 workers and risking big-budget film production.
The Telugu film industry is bracing for a major halt in production activities as the Telugu Film Employees Federation announced an indefinite strike starting Monday. The move comes after prolonged negotiations with producers failed to yield an agreement on wage revisions, placing big-budget films and web series currently in production at risk of a complete standstill.
At the heart of the standoff is the federation's demand for a 30 per cent hike in daily wages. Representing 24 categories of film workers, the federation has pointed to stagnant pay scales over the past three years as a major concern, stating it has severely impacted the livelihoods of more than 10,000 daily wage workers.
A former general secretary of the federation noted that daily wages have remained unchanged despite the rising cost of living in Hyderabad. Additionally, workers have demanded more timely disbursal of wages, calling for a shift from delayed payments to daily settlements.
'Our workers will not report to duty from tomorrow," a federation representative confirmed, asserting that the decision followed exhaustive efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue. The strike decision was formalised during a meeting of the federation's executive committee held on Sunday.
The federation has taken a firm stance, announcing that film shoots will only resume if producers provide written assurances agreeing to the revised pay structure.
Talks between the Telugu Film Producers Council, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, and the federation have reportedly been ongoing for several months. Producers had earlier proposed a 5 per cent wage increase, which the federation rejected as inadequate.
Producer C Kalyan, while opposing the strike, acknowledged its potential impact. He described the strike as a 'pressure tactic" but added, 'A month-long production halt could hurt the very daily wage workers they're trying to support." He urged both sides to return to negotiations and find a middle ground.
The outcome of the strike remains uncertain. That being said, the Telugu film industry could be heading into a period of prolonged disruption unless a resolution is reached soon.

'He is such a champ': Hrithik Roshan praises Jr NTR's ahead of War 2 release
Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan heaped praise on Jr NTR during a recent public appearance in Sri Lanka, calling him 'such a champ' for his unmatched dancing prowess. The two actors are set to appear as rivals in the much-anticipated action thriller 'War 2', releasing on August 14. Taking to the stage, Hrithik was visibly in awe of the 'RRR' star's skillset. 'Give it up for Jr NTR, guys. He is incredible; I mean, that man is such a champ,' he told the audience. Roshan, long admired for his own dancing ability, revealed he was stunned by Jr NTR's natural rhythm. 'He is the first co-actor that I have worked with that does not need rehearsals when he dances. It is absolutely incredible (that) he has every step inside him already,' he added. Hrithik also teased an exciting musical showdown in the film. 'Yeah, we have this song where, I would say it is kind of a dance-off. But yeah, working with him has been an extraordinary experience for me. It has taught me a lot of things that I will now incorporate in my life,' he said. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra, 'War 2' serves as a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster 'War'. Jr NTR plays the antagonist in the high-stakes action flick, which will be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. The film is slated for a box office clash with Rajinikanth's upcoming film 'Coolie', setting the stage for one of the biggest cinematic face-offs of the year. Indian dance troupe mesmerises packed auditorium in Israel
Haifa (Israel), Aug 4 (PTI) India enthusiasts in Israel descended on the northern Israeli coastal city of Haifa on Monday evening to witness a rich and impressive dance performance that blended the traditional Indian dance form of Odissi with modern styles, including fusion, Bollywood, urban dance and even some shades of Middle-Eastern influences. Young dancers from the Indian dance troupe Amaiza, founded by dancer and choreographer Nitisha Nanda, known for her appearances in leading reality shows 'So You Think You Can Dance India" and 'India's Got Talent", gave a captivating performance in front of a packed Beit Aba Hushi auditorium, with the 500 people in the audience often cheering in delight. The Embassy of India in Israel, in collaboration with the Haifa Municipality, the Indian Cultural Centre and the Port of Haifa, hosted the vibrant cultural event, 'celebrating the deepening friendship between India and Israel". The northern Israeli coastal city of Haifa has a deep connection with India, having been liberated from the Ottomans in 1918 by Indian soldiers, and Major Dalpat Singh is known as the 'Hero of Haifa" for leading a successful cavalry charge that shocked military historians by its sheer audacity. 'We were taught in school that the British liberated Haifa, but I later learned that it was Indian soldiers who shed their blood to free the city," Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav told the audience. 'Once a year, we gather at the city's cemetery to honour the Indian soldiers who gave their lives to protect us," Yahav said, emphasising the city's strong bond with India. 'The relationship between India and Israel, especially with the city of Haifa, is built on trust, mutual respect and lasting friendship," India's Ambassador to Israel, J P Singh, said. 'This cultural performance is dedicated to the people of Haifa, a city with which India shares deep historical bonds. During World War I, Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives in the Battle of the Liberation of Haifa," Singh stressed. Dalpat Singh made the ultimate sacrifice in that battle, which the Indian cavalry forces fought bravely under dire circumstances to inscribe their names in the last 'major cavalry charge in history". The performance in Haifa mesmerised the audience with its passion, precision and energy, showcasing both the traditional and contemporary spirit of Indian culture. It was an evening of colour, rhythm and movement — a powerful artistic experience that left a lasting impression on the Israeli audience. The event marked the festive launch of the troupe's Israel tour, with upcoming performances scheduled at Netanya on August 5, Or Akiva on August 6 and Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek on August 7. Tamannaah Bhatia Swears By Morning 'Thook' For Pimples, Fans Say ‘It Actually Works'
Last Updated: Tamannaah Bhatia says she uses morning spit on her face to prevent pimples before brushing. Social media reacts, some call it effective, others call it risky. Tamannaah Bhatia, fondly known as the 'Milky Beauty' in the South Indian film industry, has always left fans curious about the secret behind her flawless skin. Recently, she made a surprising revelation that's left the internet buzzing. In an interaction with The Lallantop, Tamannaah shared a rather unconventional skincare ritual: she uses her morning saliva on her face to avoid pimples and it must be done before brushing her teeth. When Tamannaah casually mentioned this morning ritual during the interview, the room collectively gasped. Even the host appeared visibly stunned. 'Before brushing, just thook (spit)," she laughed, leaving everyone in splits. But she was serious and it turns out she's not alone in this. As clips from the interview went viral, many social media users came forward to agree with Tamannaah's unique hack. One fan commented, 'I thought I was the only one doing that," while another added, 'She is true, using this hack since years." Some even claimed the method works for eye infections as well, citing old household remedies. 'The saliva immediately after you wake up… use it for eye infection… it works there too," read one comment. However, not everyone is convinced. Several users raised concerns about the scientific validity of the trick. One sceptical user explained, 'Saliva does have antibacterial enzymes, but they are not strong enough to treat acne-causing bacteria effectively. Pimples are caused by more than just bacteria—clogged pores, excess oil, and inflammation play a big part. Saliva doesn't fix those." Despite the polarising opinions, the conversation sparked by Tamannaah's beauty secret has been an interesting mix of surprise, nostalgia, and debate. Whether you believe in the 'morning spit remedy" or not, it certainly makes for a memorable skincare confession. On the work front, Tamannaah was recently seen grooving to the track Nasha from Raid 2. She will next be seen opposite Ajay Devgn in Ranger. Additionally, she is also working on TVF's ambitious mythological project Vvan alongside Sidharth Malhotra. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
