Nice weather brings thousands to St. Patrick's Day parade in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — ! The luck of the Irish brought beautiful weather for the St. Patrick's Day Parade near Midtown and Westport Monday afternoon.
Several families said attending the parade has been a tradition in their families for years.
Everywhere you turn green glasses, hats, balloons and flags.
'Happy St. Patrick's Day,' 9-year-old Trent Simmons said.

Thousands of people lined Broadway to watch the 51st Kansas City St. Patrick's Day parade.
Erickia Grant's family got here about three hours early.
They sit in the same spot every year – noting 'it's tradition!'
'We sit here, eat our breakfast and wait for the crowd to join in around us,' Grant said.
'We always have this spot,' Daughter Akiya Sharp said. 'We can't sit anywhere else.'
Grant also wanted front row to see her granddaughter marching with the Gateway High Steppers.
One family drove in from Iowa to join the celebration.
Mom Trica Claybourne said this is their first time at the KC St. Patrick's Day parade.
Son 8-year-old Trent was looking forward to the floats, dancing and 'green cotton candy!'
St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee Member Erin Gabert said more than a hundred entries rolled down Broadway — including floats, marching bands, and Irish dancers.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, the FOX4 team and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also took part in the parade, sporting green.
'It was one thing as a kid, at a certain point, to be like, 'Wow, one day I can go out there and make it', and now to be in the parade, and see everything we're doing, the celebration, the entertainment and hopefully the number of people that are patronizing the stores here in Midtown and Westport down the street gives me a lot of excitement as mayor,' Lucas said. 'I mean look, the KC Current opened this last weekend, the Big 12 Championship, all of our parades, Spring is an amazing time in Kansas City.'
At the beginning of the parade, a horse walked the route without a rider. The tribute was in honor of Shaun Brady.
Royals unveil new menu items for the upcoming season
Brady, who was a prominent member of the KC Irish Community was .
'Our community is very much still reeling from the loss of Shaun Brady,' Gabert said.
'So, we couldn't do this parade without honoring him, but we also know he would want us to be having fun.'
Gabert also said KC has one of the largest St. Patrick's Day Parades, on the day of, across the country.

Belton addresses outdoor warning system malfunction
BELTON, Mo. — A Cass County suburb said its outdoor warning sirens are working once again. Those same sirens did not immediately activate Tuesday as tornado warnings were issued. On Thursday, people in Belton may have heard outdoor warning sirens going off, but it was just a test. We're told the issues that happened on Tuesday are now resolved. On Thursday, the city tested the outdoor warning sirens as part of ongoing troubleshooting efforts making sure the system works properly. This, after their sirens didn't immediately sound Tuesday, according to Director of Emergency Management Claire Canaan. 'It's not a good thing to find, but it's also a good thing to find because we can address it and help save lives,' Canaan said. On Tuesday, when a tornado warning was issued for parts of Cass County, including Belton, Canaan said they recognized a disruption in the signal that sets off the sirens throughout the city. Her team tried a backup method, which also didn't go through. Finally, a secondary method of activation worked. The issue, 'Some equipment that we needed to update, the radio needed some maintenance done to it,' Canaan said. Crews spent the next two days ensuring the equipment was connected and work the way it's supposed to. Canaan said on Thursday city staff stood at all 18 siren locations across Belton to monitor and confirm performance. 'They all worked the way they're supposed to,' she said. It's important because it is a method of notification for people. It is a part of our multiple alerting warning for severe weather and when that doesn't work, we do try to rely on that but we always try to emphasize to have multiple methods of notification for reasons like this.' If it had a message that it put out that, that was working correctly, that it was sounding, it was turning, that it was in operation,' Canaan said, 'that everything was working correctly.' Video taken inside Kauffman Stadium during severe storms Tuesday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Severe thunderstorms moved across the Kansas City area Tuesday afternoon. High winds and heavy rain hit both sides of the state line, along with multiple tornado warnings. Video shared on the social media platform X by poster @QUINSWARTZ showed what the storm looked like inside Kauffman Stadium. The grounds crew has been putting in new sod in the outfield this week. Outside the stadium, a light pole was knocked down and port-a-potties were blown over. At this time, no major damage has been reported at Kauffman or Arrowhead stadiums. The storms have also left thousands of Evergy customers without power in the metro. Download WDAF+ for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV Traffic lights are out at several major intersections in Independence, one of which led to a police officer being hit while in his vehicle at Truman and Lee's Summit Road. Heavy rains bring major flooding to Dallas-area roadway
The Brief At least one major Dallas road was flooded after heavy rainfall. Further severe weather alerts are in effect early Wednesday. DALLAS - A busy Dallas-area road was seen deep underwater around midnight on Tuesday after rounds of heavy rain pushed through North Texas. FOX 4 crews found a section of I-35 East under deep water following the storms. What we know Reports just before midnight said cars on I-35 East were in water up to their windows on the road. One report said cars traveling north on I-35 were stuck at a standstill in water up to vehicles' frames. The standing water came shortly after flash flood warnings were issued for Dallas County and surrounding areas. The warning was issued until 2 a.m. Wednesday. What we don't know At the time of reporting, officials had not provided comment on road conditions in the area. It's not known what other roads may be affected by the flooding. In the midst of severe weather warnings throughout the area from Tuesday afternoon through the early hours of Wednesday, torrential rain was seen in the north Dallas County areas, including Addison, Garland, and Plano. Isolated, short-lived tornado warnings were issued in some counties within the FOX 4 viewing area. As of now, tornadoes have not been reported, nor has severe weather damage.
