Duval County School Police officer arrested on dating violence charge, DCPS says
Kevens Louis, 30, is facing charges of battery causing bodily harm (dating violence), false imprisonment, and felony domestic battery by strangulation, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office online inmate information search.
DCPS said in a news release that Louis began working with the district in September 2021 and has worked as a school police officer not assigned to a particular school.
Louis has been stripped of all law enforcement authority, and DCPS said his 'employment status will be addressed' upon his release from jail.

'While the presumption of innocence applies, I am incredibly disappointed by these allegations as they fall short of the high standards required of our school police officers,' Duval School Police Chief Jackson Short said in the news release.
Louis was released from the Duval County Jail on Monday, according to JSO's online inmate information search.
His next court date is June 3 at 9 a.m. Action News Jax is requesting his arrest report for further details.

New York woman suspected of scamming Wisconsin company out of $108K in maple syrup
WAUSAU – Marathon County Sheriff's Office is looking for a 37-year-old Bronx, New York, woman suspected to have been involved in scamming a Marathon County business out of $108,000 worth of maple syrup. Maria J. Louis faces a charge of theft by false representation of more than $100,000. On Aug. 15, Marathon County Circuit Court Judge Suzanne O'Neill issued a warrant for Louis' arrest. According to the criminal complaint, a Marathon County town of Rib Falls maple syrup business was contacted by a person looking to buy a large quantity of maple syrup for a restaurant chain. The owner of the maple syrup business talked to someone who claimed to be in the purchasing department of the business and someone else who claimed to be in accounting. The purchasing employee said the restaurant chain wanted 2,150 gallons of maple syrup. The maple syrup business agreed to sell the maple syrup for $50 a gallon. The $108,000 total bill was to be paid within 15 days of the receipt of the syrup. More: Readers ask: Will Applebee's in Wausau add IHOP? Here's what the company told us. The maple syrup business owner had an employee arrange for a semi to take the maple syrup to an address in Bronx, New York, according to the complaint. Once there, someone directed the delivery to another location in Bronx, New York. When the owner didn't receive payment for the maple syrup after 15 days, he began to make phone calls and learned the people he had talked to were not actually with the restaurant chain. The people who called used the names of actual employees of the company, pretending to be them, according to the complaint. The maple syrup company owner called the FBI and then the Marathon County Sheriff's Office. Marathon County investigators and the owner were able to trace some of the stolen maple syrup to an Amish discount store in Pennsylvania. The store had bought a pallet of the maple syrup from a bulk distribution company called Amazing Discounts, according to the complaint. Investigators learned the sole contact for the company was Louis. Investigators also were able to learn the address where the maple syrup was delivered in the Bronx, New York, was the Louis's address, according to the complaint. If convicted, Louis faces a maximum sentence of seven-and-a-half years in prison followed by five years extended supervision. Ohio police officer arrested for OVI after crashing into pizza restaurant
An Ohio police officer was arrested for OVI after crashing into a pizza restaurant early Wednesday morning, according to our CBS affiliate, WOIO-19 TV. WOIO-19 identified the driver as Cleveland Police Officer Gary Eugene Kane II. Ohio Attorney General records indicate that Kane is a 9-year veteran with the Cleveland police. Officers helped Kane out of the car and noticed a glossy appearance in his eyes and smelled a strong odor of alcohol, WOIO-19 reported. A North Olmsted police report notes that Kane refused to take a standard field sobriety test and was arrested on OVI charges. Police marked that Kane refused to submit to a blood test as he repeatedly told officers, 'Take it by hospital,' instead of saying yes or no, according to WOIO-19. Medics responded to the scene to evaluate Kane and later transported him to a hospital. WOIO-19 reported that Kane was cited for failure to control and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The Cleveland Division of Police provided the following statement to our CBS affiliate. "Cleveland Police Deputy Chief Jarod Schlacht confirms Officer Gary Kane was arrested on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, by the North Olmsted Police Department. The incident that led to this arrest occurred outside the city of Cleveland while Kane was off duty. The North Olmsted Police will conduct the investigation. The Cleveland Police Internal Affairs Unit will monitor the process to stay informed on the outcome of the investigation. Officer Kane will remain on restricted duty pending the adjudication of the case.
