Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Friday, May 16.
Wrexham yet to move for O'Brien
Wrexham have not yet shown an interest in former Swansea City loanee Lewis O'Brien, WalesOnline understands.

Reports elsewhere had claimed the midfielder was a target for the Championship new boys, who are looking to refresh their squad on the back of a third consecutive promotion. Sign up to the Swansea City WhatsApp service to get breaking news and top stories sent to your phone

But while a number of second-tier sides have shown an interest in the 26-year-old, it's understood Wrexham are not one of them at this stage.
Spanish giants Valencia are, however, firmly in the mix, and competition for O'Brien's signature is still likely to be fierce this summer, with his exploits on loan with the Swans catching plenty of attention.
Swansea would certainly be keen on bringing him back should a deal become possible.

However, at the time of writing, they have not yet made any sort of move to seal what would be a hugely popular reunion next season.
Swans eye Santos
Swansea City are reportedly among a number of clubs keeping tabs on free agent Ricardo Santos.
The 29-year-old recently left League One side Bolton Wanderers after coming to the end of his current deal, having made 25 league appearances for the club last season.

According to Football Insider's Peter O'Rourke, Swansea one of several sides to have shown an interest in taking him on a free transfer, but could face competition from Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County.

The Swans are likely to be in the market for a centre-back this summer after the departure of Hannes Delcroix, who's returned to parent club Burnley after a six-month loan spell.

The club also remain in discussions with Harry Darling over a possible new deal. He's yet to offer any indication over his intentions at this stage, with Championship new boys Birmingham City and Wrexham understood to have emerged as possible options.
Watford poised to clinch Kyprianou deal
Watford are reportedly close to confirming a move for former Swansea City target Hector Kyprianou.
The midfielder was the subject of a failed bid from the Swans in January, and has now left Peterborough United as a free agent this summer.

It's not clear whether he was earmarked as a potential target this time around, but the Watford Observer has now claimed that a move for the outgoing Posh captain could even be completed later today. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here
Kyprianou confirmed he would be moving on two days ago, posting on social media: "Walking through the door 3 years ago, I couldn't have wished for a better time. We've shared some unbelievable memories together that will stay with me forever. We've had some amazing derby wins, reached the playoffs twice, won two trophies at Wembley, of which, one was the best day of my life. I've also had the privilege to captain the club, and I'll be forever grateful.
"To the gaffer, the staff, the players and everyone behind the scenes, I want to say thank you for all the help and support you've given me during my time. "And to you posh fans, thank you for the love you've given me from day one. It's never gone unnoticed. We've created a special bond which will stay with me. "I want to wish you all nothing but success in the future, and will hopefully see you all again soon!"

Mercedes' George Russell fastest in second practice for Canadian Grand Prix

The British driver, who took pole position in Montreal last year, edged out McLaren compatriot Lando Norris, with Kimi Antonelli underlining Mercedes' speed to set the third quickest time. Championship leader Oscar Piastri was only sixth, with Lewis Hamilton eighth, one place ahead of Max Verstappen, who had earlier finished fastest in the first running of the weekend. 🏁 END OF FP2 🏁 TOP 10Russell 💨NorrisAntonelliAlbonAlonsoPiastriSainzHamiltonVerstappenLawson#F1 #CanadianGP — Formula 1 (@F1) June 13, 2025 Russell has been one of the grid's standout performers this season with four podium finishes already under his belt, matching the tally he managed for the entire 2024 campaign. At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Friday, Russell's lap of one minute and 12.123 seconds was the fastest of the day to leave Norris trailing. McLaren have dominated the campaign so far, but in practice here they appeared to be lacking the advantage which has carried them to seven wins from the nine races staged. Norris was in striking range of Russell, just 0.028sec behind the Mercedes man, but Piastri was 0.439sec off the pace, having finished the first practice session in 14th. Williams' Alex Albon took fourth, with Fernando Alonso fifth, but the two-time world champion's Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll crashed out. Stroll, who had a medical procedure on a wrist injury which prevented him from contesting the Spanish Grand Prix a fortnight ago, thudded into the concrete wall at turn seven to bring an abrupt end to his session. The Canadian was the day's second major casualty after Charles Leclerc's preparations for the rest of the weekend were dealt a blow when he suffered a heavy accident with just nine laps on the board in first practice. The Monegasque crashed into the barrier on the entry to turn four and sustained significant damage to the left-hand side of his Ferrari. The force of the impact sent him sideways and across the other side of the chicane. 'F***,' said Leclerc on the radio. 'Sorry, I am in the wall. My bad. I should have gone straight, but I thought I would make the corner and I hit the wall.' Leclerc's survival cell on his Ferrari needed replacing which sidelined him for the remainder of the day. His accident marked an underwhelming day for Ferrari which will have done little to lift the gloom around the Italian team with Hamilton 0.530 sec slower than the pace-setting Russell.

I realised Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou would be a success after his incredible moment in game vs St Johnstone

Gunn was Norwich manager when Askou arrived on trial at the club in the summer of 2009. 3 Jens Berthel Askou is the new Motherwell manager Credit: Alamy 3 Bryan Gunn had the now manager on trial at Norwich Credit: PA The Canaries happened to be on a pre-season tour of Scotland — where they would play games against Raith Rovers, St Johnstone and Airdrie. Askou scored in the win over Airdrie — but it was an incident in the closed-door victory over Saints that Gunn remembers. He said: 'We'd just got relegated from the Championship and we were offered Jens by his agent so we had him in for the games to have a look at him. 'In the game we played on the training pitch at St Andrews he attacked a clearance and his header must have gone 60 yards back the way it had come. 'That gave us an idea of what he was like. 'He was a central defender and he was tough, uncompromising, competitive and physical. 'I liked what I had seen from Jens and I sat down and had a couple of conversations with him. 'He was quite a steely character — he knew what he wanted. 'For us, he was an easy signing on a free transfer. 'The wages were affordable but I was away from Norwich before we really got the chance to work together. Stuart Kettlewell reveals if he regrets quitting Motherwell in exclusive first interview 'We lost our first game of the season 7-1 to Colchester but he didn't play in it because his work permit hadn't arrived. 'He played in a League Cup tie at Yeovil the following midweek, which we won comfortably, and we stayed down in the West Country because we were playing at Exeter on the Saturday. 'We drew 1-1 there and Jens scored our goal — but by then I was on a train back to Norwich because I'd been sacked on the Friday! 'Paul Lambert came in as the new manager and he brought a few of his own players in. 'Guys like Fraser Forster and Russell Martin joined the club around about that time. 'Jens played a few games but probably not as many as he would have liked to and after a couple of seasons he eventually went back to Denmark. 'Over the years we've kept in touch by text message. 'When I saw he'd started in coaching I'd send him good luck messages and I've probably got a WhatsApp trail for all his moves. 3 Jens Berthel Askou playing for Norwich Credit: Getty 'It's always nice when guys you've maybe helped along the way on their playing or coaching journey get decent jobs. 'It's good to see that he's gone on and worked at very good clubs since he stopped playing — like IFK Gothenburg, Sparta Prague and FC Copenhagen. 'And it's odd that he's ended up in the top division in Scotland as a coach when he started there as a player for Norwich. 'Maybe the fact he was willing to come to us on trial as a player tells you a bit about his character, his willingness to give things a go. 'I was well aware of what had happened with his predecessor at Motherwell and when I saw he'd got the job there on Thursday I sent him a message wishing him well at Fir Park. 'In the message I told him I knew Nick Daws, the Motherwell head of recruitment, and also goalkeeper Aston Oxborough. 'Aston might well have been in the academy at Norwich at the time so it could be that Jens will remember him. 'The agency I work for represents Jack Butland and I'm up in Scotland every now and then for games. 'If I'm at a Rangers versus Motherwell game next season I'll make a point of looking Jens up. 'It's a good career move for him and I wish him all the very best at Motherwell.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Charles Leclerc crashes out of Canada first practice as Max Verstappen sets pace

Verstappen, who is a point away from a one-race ban following his collision with Mercedes' George Russell at the recent Spanish Grand Prix, ended the session just 0.039 seconds clear of Williams driver Alex Albon. Carlos Sainz finished third in the other Williams with Russell fourth and Lewis Hamilton fifth. Lando Norris was only seventh while his McLaren team-mate and championship leader Oscar Piastri finished down the order in 14th. 🔴 RED FLAG 🔴 Leclerc into the barriers. He's okay#F1 #CanadianGP — Formula 1 (@F1) June 13, 2025 Verstappen, who heads into this weekend's race 49 points behind Piastri in the standings, produced the quickest time in the opening action of the weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to lay down an early marker. But Leclerc's preparations for the 10th round of the campaign were dealt a blow when he suffered a heavy accident with just nine laps on the board. My bad. I should have gone straight but I thought I would make the corner and I hit the wall.' Leclerc's Ferrari mechanics will now face a race against time to ensure his car is ready for the concluding practice session of the day which begins at 17:00 local time (22:00 BST). The session was red-flagged for eight minutes as Leclerc's stricken Ferrari was retrieved and repairs to the barriers were completed. As Verstappen launched his Red Bull to the top of the order, Norris appeared to be struggling with the handling of his McLaren and finished 0.458 seconds behind the Dutchman. Piastri, who has won five of the nine rounds so far and leads Norris by 10 points, was even further back, one second off Verstappen's pace. The British team were experimenting with a new front wing and will be expected to improve in the day's second session.
