The Bloomberg family gets two slimy new members — and they're not politicians

New York Post12-05-2025

Her time in the slime light
My VIP exclusive information begins with a garden-variety snail. My own deep sea wisdom — sharpened in the Rockaways — brings me to this heavy-duty situation. Not my usual-type problem that barks, pees and gets rich in DC, but pay attention:
Two snails were just 'rescued.' Size of your pinky. Escargots cost heavy if ordered in a high-class French restaurant. A ruler determined this patient's length was smaller than a folded-up C-note.
Mike Bloomberg's daughter cares for them as pets and one's shell was decaying. Medics determined the problem as bacterial or fungal. The hospital's exotic team X-rayed both to see what the healthy shell looked like versus the unhealthy. So they put a control animal there — do not ask me where one grabs a control snail.

Why Bloomberg's daughter treasures such creatures or her need for snails is not clear. This bacterial or fungal infection was decomposing one's shell.
The patient turned out to be male — though how you tell, this I'm not sure. Afterward they compared shells. Resin was applied. Also high doses of antibiotic and antifungal agents. Mixed with a resin it's painted on the shell.
Listen, some of us did that with husbands.

Touching the medication to the snail itself? Not safe. The stuff needs to be meticulously applied to the shell — and stay there. It was determined that this antibiotic fungal infection presumably comes from congestion.
Instantly I receive advance information on its well-being, I shall report it. For now I thank the Animal Medical Center's Dr. Doug Palma for sharing this information. Sometimes you can go a whole week without a good snail story.
Leave me be
Why's New Yorker magazine — which I'd devour cover to cover if each issue's piece didn't last longer than my hair tint — feel a need to pee on me regularly? One recent issue tinkled on me saying they heard I was in a dermatologist's office. This past week — they peed on me again.

Once more and I either send them a horse's head or a real live snail with measles.
Pope-ing for the best
Maria Cooper's dad was movie star Gary Cooper. Once she said: 'Both of us were in line to be blessed by the then-Pope.

'It's very formal. His Holiness walks in, everyone genuflects. Kneeling, my father lost his balance and dropped all his rosaries on the floor. Some rolled onto His Holiness' velvet slippers, which my father could not exactly reclaim. He was very embarrassed.'
Broadway's Tonys are upon us. Here's a famous story:
George Bernard Shaw once sent Winston Churchill two tickets to his play 'Pygmalion.' His note said: 'Bring a friend — if you have one.' Churchill replied: 'Sorry I cannot come to the first night — but will come to the second — if there is one.'
Only in New York, kids, only in New York.

L'Oréal acquires a majority stake in British skincare brand Medik8

L'Oréal has acquired a majority stake in the UK's Medik8 as it seeks to expand its position in the skincare market, the French beauty giant confirmed on Monday. As part of the deal, private equity firm Inflexion will remain a minority shareholder, and the current management committee will also stay in their roles. The cost of the stake is officially undisclosed, although the Financial Times reported last week that the potential deal was worth around €1bn. L'Oréal's share price was roughly unchanged on the news. 'We are delighted to welcome Medik8 to the L'Oréal family,' said Cyril Chapuy, President of L'Oréal LUXE. 'As a premium skincare range, with high levels of proven efficacy at an accessible price point, Medik8 perfectly complements our existing skincare portfolio,' he added. L'Oréal has been seeking to capitalise on the boom in science-driven skincare, partly driven by social media influencers. Brands already under its 'Dermatological Beauty Division' include La Roche-Posay, Cerave, Vichy, Skinceuticals, and Skinbetter Science. Related L'Oréal acquires Galderma stake and targets the injectables market The Body Shop goes into administration, with hundreds of UK jobs at risk This unit brought in over €7bn in revenue in 2024, representing an almost 10% year-on-year rise, making it L'Oréal's fastest-growing division. Seeking to expand its portfolio, L'Oréal bought soap maker Aesop in 2023, and Korean beauty brand Dr.G in December. Last year, L'Oréal also acquired a 10% stake in skincare firm Galderma, as well as acquiring the beauty licence for Miu Miu. At the time of the Galderma deal, the French firm said it was 'increasingly investing in a more holistic approach, spanning the entire beauty routine' — thereby 'anticipating and intercepting the signs of skin ageing'. Medik8, founded in 2009, specialises in anti-ageing treatments and was bought by UK-based private equity firm Inflexion in 2021. UK's MHRA suspends Valneva's chikungunya vaccine for elderly

(Reuters) -UK's medicine regulator said on Monday it has temporarily restricted the use of French vaccine maker Valneva's shot to treat chikungunya, a virus transmitted by mosquitoes, in people aged 65 and above as a precautionary measure. The vaccine, IXCHIQ, was approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in February to protect people aged 18 years and above against chikungunya, but is not yet available in the UK market. "The decision to restrict the licence until further review is based on global data which has highlighted 23 cases of serious adverse reactions, including two cases reporting a fatal outcome, in people aged from 62 to 89 years of age who received the vaccine," the regulator said. The adverse events were reported in the French overseas territory of La Reunion, where a chikungunya outbreak was reported earlier this year. MHRA's decision comes after the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in May suspended the use of the vaccine in the age group. The French Government was the first to take the step in April.

New Board of Directors - AMGQ President outlines her vision for a more concerted approach to the challenges of caring for Québec's aging population

MONTREAL, June 9, 2025 /CNW/ - At its annual general meeting, the Association des médecins gériatres du Québec (Québec's association of geriatric physicians, known by its French abbreviation AMGQ) has acclaimed Dr. Julia Chabot to a two-year term as Chair of the Board of Directors and Association President. Dr. Chabot assumes her duties with a clear vision of the future of geriatrics in Québec and, to that end, is advancing the idea of a more concerted approach through the creation of the Programme québécois de gériatrie (Québec geriatrics program, or PQG). "With the Québec population aging at an increasing pace, it is more vital than ever that we adapt our healthcare environment and emphasize prevention so as to meet the growing needs of the elderly, no matter where they live or receive care," Dr. Chabot said. "In the AMGQ's view, developing a PQG will enable a better response to that situation. We would like the Health and Social Service Ministry and other partners to make vital contributions to our thinking process as we work to develop this program." For example, the responding geriatrician project, which was recently the subject of an agreement, perfectly captures the essence of PQG. "Making sure that more people have access to geriatric expertise is a key priority for us," Dr. Chabot continued. "For me and the entire AMGQ membership, this agreement is the culmination of months of hard work, and we are delighted with the result. We are eager to get down to work to ensure its successful implementation across the network, first through pilot projects and then more widely," she concluded. A renewed Board of Directors In addition to the appointment of Dr. Chabot as Chair, Dr. Chantal Paré has been named Vice-Chair of the Association. The Board of Directors consists of the following officers: Dr. Julia Chabot, Chair Dr. Chantal Paré, Vice-Chair Dr. Thiên Tuong Minh Vu, Treasurer Dr. Michael Stiffel, Secretary Dr. Julie Kirouac Laplante, Member Responsible for Continuous Professional Development Dr. Alex Halme, Advisor Dr. Carolane Rioux, Advisor AMGQ outgoing Chair and President Dr. Jacques Morin concludes his term of office with a sense of having accomplished his duties, and sees the future in a positive light. "I have no doubt that, with such a strong and committed Board of Directors, the AMGQ is well positioned for the future. I take this opportunity to thank all of our members for the trust they have placed in me these past few years, and for their dedication to delivering quality care to Quebecers," he said.
