Shoppers say 'no' as holiday decorations on sale 'way too early'
While lots of people are looking forward to seasonal festivities, others think it's too early to start celebrating
Halloween fans have been left divided after a shopper spotted seasonal decorations in TK Maxx. Facebook Page Dansway Gifts and Bargains UK caused quite the buzz when it shared pictures of TK Maxx's Halloween range online this week.
The post read: "Halloween Home Ornaments are starting to arrive in store at TK Maxx already!" It was accompanied by pictures of a store with rows of themed decor up for grabs, including ghost, skull, and pumpkin ornaments. The decorations delighted several people, but confused others who suggested June is too early to start selling the themed items.
A debate followed, as people were quick to weigh in on when they'd expect stores to introduce Halloween items ahead of October 31. For many shoppers, it was welcome news, and several commenters were keen to plan trips to browse the range.
One such fan wrote: "We need a shopping date! I need all of this." Someone else replied with heart emojis, writing: "Oh look new home decor." Another excited viewer replied: "SPOOKY SEASON."
Meanwhile, a fan added: "Summerween trip." Their friend replied: "We need to go." A similar response said: "Trip to TK Maxx needed soon." A keen shopper wrote: "It's everywhere tempting me already." Someone else commented: "TK Max as well as the Range then."
Not everyone was quite so excited, though. One unimpressed social media user wrote: "No no NO ….. let's have summer first before we start seeing autumn things ….. jeeeez way too early!!"
Someone else replied: "Summer hasn't even arrived," before adding a laughing emoji. Elsewhere, a commenter asked: "Ooh are they properly putting things out now or is it leftovers from last year? Will pay a visit next week."
Dansway Gifts and Bargains UK replied: "We spoke to a member of staff in store and they said this wasn't old stock. They expect more to arrive in the near future. Hope that helps."
There's also a selection of festive decor on TK Maxx's website. At the time of writing, it featured over 200 Halloween products, including throws, duvet sets, cushions, and candles.

A night with Elbow at Cardiff Castle, goosebumps and all

More info I'm a bit guilty of not really making the most of the live music we have in the capital often enough. This summer, as is becoming the norm, there's something for everyone in terms of gigs in Wales' capital. Sting, Will Smith, Stevie Wonder, Stereophonics? Oh, and a group of fellas from Manchester, you might have heard them mentioned. But the one I knew I wanted to see was Elbow partly because they're the exact sort of band the venue calls out for. As part of this summer's TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle they were joined by The Coral and Billie Marten. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here Elbow were preceeded by Snow Patrol the night before, and you can read that review here. This night, there was a weather warning for thunderstorms and there was a mass arrival of ponchos and waterproofs required partway through the set. I'd listen to Guy Garvey in most places. His haunting, effortless voice is, many years of music in, nothing short of lovely. The castle really is a special venue and suited them down to the crowd. The last time I went to one of the Depot Live gigs at the castle I saw a Faithless DJ set and it lends itself to a jump around just as much as a sway to Elbow. In a set just shy of two hours, Elbow performed 20 songs, mixing old and new. Starting with 2008's Starlings, he quipped some of the material to come would be older than some audience members. Next came Lovers Leap. Other tracks included Lippy Kids, Magnificent, Kindling, Mirrorball and Seldom Seen Kid. But they could only close with One Day Like This, a song so beautiful, even the rain stopped in time for us to enjoy it in all its glory. Garvey apologised for his voice being not 100% but it wasn't noticeable from where we were. It was never going to be a raucous gig, but even the most mellow of tunes were brought to life by the band, with a seemingly endless supply of instruments and vocals to boot. Garvey knew how to get the crowd growing, a vocal warm up for the final, goosebump-inducing number was a lovely touch. An effortlessly talented band who seem to still love what they do, one day like this a year really would see me right. Big high street chain selling Halloween goodies four months early – and shoppers are divided

But if you head into TK Maxx, things are looking very autumnal. One shopper shared pictures of Halloween items on the shelves in the retailer's Doncaster store, saying: "It's starting." Others chimed in to say they'd also seen Halloween products in the stores in Preston and Oldham. Another post sharing a video of all the new products has racked up more than 2,500 likes and 1,200 comments. One person commented: "No no NO ….. let's have summer first before we start seeing autumn things ….. jeeeez way too early !!" Another said: "Wooow really getting earlier and earlier every year huh!! will start seeing xmas stuff next week no doubt." A third person said: "Its june!!!! this is far too early." But others were happier to see the spooky items on shelves. One joked: "You call it Halloween i call it home decor." Shops have been putting out their holiday stocks even earlier in recent years. Some experts have said the growth of online shopping has meant traditional retailers are trying to extend the holiday season to compete. Charlotte Harrington, the manager at Summerhill's Garden Centre in Basildon, Essex, previously told The Sun that they open their Christmas department on the August bank holiday. "The stock comes in early and we gradually start putting it out on the shop floor. This is just a small fraction of what we have," she said. "But our Christmas displays are so spectacular it takes time to get everything set up, so we have to start early." Putting out holiday decorations too early can put off customers, though. Last year shoppers complained when B&M launched its Christmas range in the middle of August. They also reacted when Morrisons, Tesco and B&M put Easter chocolates out on their shelves hours after Christmas Day.
