An Air India flight heading to London crashed in a crowded area near Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad on Thursday, just minutes after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport . The incident took place around 1:40 pm.As per a TOI report quoting data from the flight-tracking platform Flightradar24, Flight AI171, bound for London Gatwick , lost signal at a very low altitude of just 625 feet, less than a minute after takeoff."We are continuing to process data from receiver sources individually. Additional processing confirms #AI171 departed using the full length of Runway 23 at Ahmedabad. RWY 23 is 11,499 feet long. The aircraft backtracked to the end of the runway before beginning its take-off roll," Flightradar said in a post on X.The plane crashed into a residential area, sparking a massive fire and creating panic among residents. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the area.Fire officer Jayesh Khadia confirmed that several fire engines were quickly sent to control the blaze. Emergency teams, including the police, fire brigade, and ambulances, began rescue and evacuation efforts without delay.Air India posted an update on X (formerly Twitter), saying: 'Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on our website and our X handle.'Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other top officials, promising full support from the central government to manage the crisis.Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said, "We are going to conduct a fair and thorough investigation and probe why this incident happened. Summer camp brings joyful learning to children in state
1 2 Patna: The statewide summer camp, 'Camaal ka Camp', is using innovative learning approaches such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and accelerated learning techniques to equip children with key foundational skills for upper primary education. Organised by the department of education in collaboration with an NGO, the camp is running successfully across the state. Launched on June 2 and scheduled to continue until June 20, the initiative is aimed at strengthening literacy and mathematical understanding. According to an official press release, the programme aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by promoting peer tutoring and community participation. "The summer camp is a joyful and meaningful way to prepare our children for the new academic year. It is heartening to see how storytelling and play-based learning have turned classrooms and communities into spaces of fun and learning," Siddharth said. As part of the initiative, Dr Rukmini Banerji, CEO of the NGO, visited two participating schools — Kankarbagh Middle School and Babuganj Middle School in Gulzarbagh — on Saturday. She interacted with children who were learning mathematics through everyday examples like tea, saris, pulses and rice. She also listened to a story written by the children titled Nani Ka Ghar. More than 1,42,788 youth volunteers have registered with the NGO for the camp. Each volunteer leads a small group of 8-10 children, conducting 1.5-hour learning sessions either in the morning or evening. Every day, they receive a maths-based audio story via an instant messaging platform, along with a booklet of games and activities, helping children learn through stories, play and conversation. Christian volunteers from Vadodara to make 120 coffins to transport mortal remains of plane crash victims
VADODARA: Volunteers from the local Christian community are racing against time, working tirelessly to build 120 wooden coffins to facilitate the dignified transport of remains of the Ahmedabad plane crash victims to their families. Led by father-son coffin makers Ardesh and Melvyn Rajwadi, the team has already completed 25 coffins by Saturday evening, demonstrating incredible dedication in the face of tragedy. Those involved in the work said volunteers are buying material with their own money and would not charge a rupee more than the cost of production. "Air India contacted us and placed an order for 120 coffins to transport the mortal remains of the plane crash victims (currently kept at the mortuary in Ahmedabad civil hospital). We started work at 9pm on Friday and completed 25 coffins by Saturday afternoon. We will complete 50 coffins by tonight and hand it over to the company," said Ardesh Rajwadi.

Kerala witnesses dip in number of candidates clearing NEET-UG
Kochi: There has been a decline in the number of students from Kerala clearing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) this year compared to last year. After results were declared on Saturday, 73,328 candidates from the state successfully cleared the NEET-UG. This is a dip of over 13,000 candidates from last year's figures – 86,713. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the exam on May 4 which saw over 22 lakh candidates appear across 5,468 centres in 566 cities globally. Out of 1,27,442 candidates who registered from Kerala in 2025, 1,21,516 appeared for the exam. The test was conducted in 13 languages including Malayalam. However, the number of candidates opting to write in Malayalam declined significantly to just 481 this year compared to 958 students in the previous year. Despite the overall drop, Kerala still produced some standout performances. Deepniya DB, an OBC (NCL) candidate from the state, secured an all-India rank of 109 with a percentile of 99.9949.
