Area bus driver to compete for international title
STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) — A local bus driver will soon be making a trip down to Texas to compete in the international 'Road-E-O.'
Struthers City Schools district driver Ryan Dunn has earned a bid to 'The International School Bus Safety Roadeo' on June 28-29 in Austin, Texas.
This comes after Dunn placed first out of 42 drivers at the 'Ohio State School Bus Road-E-O'. The competition attracts school bus drivers from around the state to test their driving skills and knowledge.
The International School Bus Safety Roadeo is the leading competition among school bus drivers across the United States and Canada. The competition awards the safest and most skilled drivers internationally.
Dunn will be the only competitor from the Youngstown region to showcase his skills on an international stage, according to a release from the school.

PA Turnpike tollbooths removed at interchanges
(WBRE/WYOU) — Multiple tollbooths have been removed from the Pennsylvania Turnpike in areas where Open Road Tolling (ORT) has begun. The PA Turnpike has started removing toll plazas along the turnpike, starting with the Pocono Interchange (Exit 95) and on the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476), with plans to remove all tollbooths by 2028. The two tollbooths have been removed where the ORT system has launched. The ORT system will have gantries above the turnpike that allow for unobstructed traffic flow. You will be able to drive highway speeds through the ORT gantries. Death investigation underway in Williamsport 'The PA Turnpike has been a leader in transportation from the day we opened in 1940 as 'America's First Superhighway' and while traditional tollbooths made practical sense then, we now have more advanced and efficient systems that better serve today's 21st century customers… The switch to ORT modernizes the Pennsylvania Turnpike for today. We look forward to providing customers with a safer and more convenient travel experience on the PA Turnpike and better serving the communities we touch along the way.' PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton The ORT gantries charge the driver by E-ZPass or by Toll By Plate. The switch to ORT in the east of the state occurred in January and will launch in the turnpike's west section in 2027. The PA Turnpike Commission says the tollbooths on the mainline will be fully removed across the turnpike by the end of 2028. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. VW's EV Masterplan Expands Beyond Just Batteries
Volkswagen is in the middle of a turnaround strategy that will put the German brand back on track. Its grand plan was revealed earlier this year, with nine new models to be launched in the next few years. The all-new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP)is part of this movement, though various issues have plagued its rollout, including software issues related to Cariad. Now, VW has revealed an update about the SSP, and it's a major one that involves internal combustion engines. After years of touting the SSP as its clean-sheet EV architecture, the German auto giant has revealed that SSP will also support internal combustion engines, though not in the traditional sense. Instead, VW is pivoting toward range-extending gas engines that generate electricity to charge batteries, not drive the wheels. While VW may tout this as an evolution of the SSP architecture, the incorporation of a range-extender engine is more like a safety net for the brand. At this point, several automakers have already backpedaled from their all-EV push due to waning demand for BEVs. VW is one of them, and this is the company's solution. The SSP architecture will still be fully electric at heart, but it will also accommodate range extenders. These are internal combustion engines used solely to generate power for the battery, with no mechanical link to the wheels. Nissan's e-Power, which is reportedly reaching the US market, operates on the same principle as VW's SSP. The defunct Mazda MX-30 also got a similar upgrade with a rotary range extender, while VW Group's own Scout brand is also launching in the market with the same technology. One of SSP's headline vehicles will be the ninth-generation VW Golf, which will be fully electric and will coexist with the current Mk8 Golf for several years. It's unclear whether there will be a range-extended version of the Golf, but we expect the model to arrive by 2029, so there is an allowance for adjustments to VW's plan. In China, the world's biggest automotive market, Volkswagen already previewed the ID. Era concept, which features a gasoline-powered range extender. Of note, EV demand in China is also dropping, with range-extended EVs and plug-in hybrid gaining popularity. Despite the expanded capabilities, VW doesn't expect this range-extended EV strategy to take hold everywhere. According to VW CEO Thomas Schäfer, Europe is unlikely to see SSP-based range extender models where plug-in hybrids remain the more viable option. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. Tesla Launches Killer Model 3 Lease Offer for June
The Tesla Model 3 has always been a compelling entry point into the world of electric vehicles. It's quick, comfortable, packed with tech, and now, thanks to an attractive new lease offer, it's surprisingly affordable. For June 2025, Tesla is offering standout 24-month lease deals on all three versions of the refreshed Model 3. Whether you're looking for maximum range, all-wheel-drive confidence, or brutal acceleration, there's an option that could fit your budget better than you'd expect from a luxury EV brand. The entry-level Long Range RWD model can now be leased for just $349 a month for 24 months, with only $349 due at signing (not including the acquisition fee). That's a remarkably low barrier to entry for a car that delivers over 360 miles of range and a 0–60 mph time under five seconds. Need all-weather traction or more speed? The Long Range AWD version leases for $549/month, and the top-tier Performance AWD trim, which rockets to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, leases for $849/month. Both require matching down payments of $549 and $849, respectively. Tesla is also offering 0.99% APR for 60 months to qualified buyers who apply the $7,500 federal EV tax credit at the point of sale. That effectively knocks thousands off the price up front, and makes financing nearly as appealing as leasing. The 2025 Model 3 lineup features Tesla's latest "Highland" updates, which include a smoother ride, quieter cabin, and cleaner interior design. Despite its simplicity, the cabin feels modern and tech-forward. All trims come with heated and ventilated front seats, a large center touchscreen, built-in navigation, and Tesla's Autopilot driver assistance system. The cargo area expands with split-folding rear seats, offering up to 21 cubic feet of usable space. No matter which version you choose, the Model 3 is fast. The Long Range RWD hits 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, while the Performance AWD does it in a supercar-rivaling 2.8 seconds. Even with this kind of speed, the Model 3 delivers excellent range: up to 363 miles for the RWD model, 346 miles for the AWD version, and 296 miles for the Performance trim. On the road, the Model 3 feels planted and sharp, thanks to its low center of gravity and firm suspension. The Performance model also adds adaptive dampers and upgraded brakes, making it a serious driver's car. Tesla's June lease specials make it easier than ever to get into a Model 3, especially if you've been on the fence about EV ownership. Whether you're drawn to the RWD model for its range and value, or the AWD Performance for its raw acceleration, there's a deal here worth considering. With updated styling, better ride quality, and flexible pricing options, the 2025 Tesla Model 3 isn't just one of the best EVs on the road-it's one of the smartest leases this summer.
