's teams continued on the fifth day on Friday, as intense activity was witnessed across multiple zones. KMC's bulldozers reached VIP road under heavy security in the morning and removed encroachments including ramps and platforms constructed atop the nullah for nearly one kilometer. To mitigate waterlogging along VIP road, KMC had elevated the roadside drains, but locals had built ramps up to ten feet over the drains, which hindered cleaning and desilting operations. As soon as bulldozers began demolishing the ramps, residents appealed to officials for time, promising to remove the encroachments themselves. However, KMC officials continued with the operation, dismantling ramps outside nearly two dozen houses and seized leftover debris.
In zone – 1, the
anti-encroachment squad
conducted an operation near Collectorganj Mal Godown road, removing ten permanent ramps, around 20 hand carts, and a temporary structure that had been set up over a health department nullah. In zone – 2, the squad demolished 25 tin sheds, 15 platforms from the footpath, and imposed fines around Rs 4,000.
Similarly, in zone – 5, operations at Swaraj Nagar and Panki area targeted approximately 45 temporary encroachments in addition to around 20 permanent structures, also razing ramps and stairs erected over the nullah. The squad collected a fine totalling Rs 10,000.

Odisha IAS officer Dhiman Chakma caught accepting ₹10 lakh bribe
Dhiman Chakma, a Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh in Odisha's Kalahandi district, was caught on Monday allegedly accepting a ₹10 lakh bribe from a local businessman, according to the Odisha Vigilance Department. M Radhakrishna, SP (Vigilance), said that Chakma was presented before the special vigilance court in Bhawanipatna, which denied his bail request and sent him to 14 days of judicial custody. Following the arrest, officials conducted searches at Chakma's government residence, where an additional ₹47 lakh in cash was recovered. Investigations are ongoing, the department said in a release. 'During the search, ₹47 lakh in cash was found from his quarters at Dharamgarh. As he could not give any satisfactory explanation regarding such huge cash, the same was seized,' Radhakrishna said. According to the Vigilance Department, Chakma, a 2021-batch IAS officer, allegedly demanded a total bribe of ₹20 lakh and threatened to take action against the businessman's enterprise if payment was not made. The Vigilance Department wrote on X: 'Today, Sri Dhiman Chakma, IAS (2021 batch), Sub-Collector, Dharamgarh, #Kalahandi, has been nabbed while taking a bribe of Rs. 10 Lakh from a businessman, threatening to act against his business otherwise. Further, ₹47 lakh cash was recovered during the search at his government's residence.' It further added: 'The overall bribe demanded was ₹20 lakh, & this was the 1st instalment. In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No. 6 /2025 U/s 7 P. C. Act, 1988 as amended by P. C. (Amd) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation continues.' A video shared by the vigilance department showed currency notes recovered from Chakma's residence spread out on a bed as officials continued their search. Chakma called the complainant to his official residence According to a vigilance statement, 2021-batch IAS officer Dhiman Chakma allegedly threatened a local businessman, demanding ₹20 lakh to avoid action against him. The businessman reported the demand to Vigilance authorities, prompting officials to lay a trap on the night of June 8, 2025. 'Based on the complaint, a trap was laid on June 8, 2025, night, wherein accused Dhiman Chakma was nabbed by a team of Odisha Vigilance in his government quarters at Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district,' the statement said. It added that Chakma was caught red-handed accepting ₹10 lakh — the first instalment of the bribe — which was recovered from his possession in the presence of witnesses. The IAS officer was caught "red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a local businessman," the department said in the release. The accused Sub-Collector called the complainant to his official government residence at Dharamgarh, received the bribe amount, verified the '26 number of 100-note bundles of different denominations with both his hands, and kept the same inside his residence office table drawer.' Both hand wash and table drawer wash 'gave a positive chemical reaction,' the release said. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). More details are awaited as the probe continues. The SP said a case has been registered against IAS officer Dhiman Chakma under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Chakma initially joined the Odisha cadre as a 2019-batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer. After completing his training, he served as Additional Chief Conservator at Baripada in Mayurbhanj from June 2021. He later cleared the civil services examination in 2021, was appointed as an IAS officer, and assigned to the Odisha cadre. Gurugram: Vatika G21's builder demolishes boundary wall, residents seek administration's intervention
GURUGRAM : The stalemate over a disputed boundary wall at Vatika G21 in Sector 83 has snowballed, with residents accusing the builder of demolishing the partially constructed wall in the dead of night. According to RWA, the incident occurred around 2am on Sunday night when the staffers of the developer allegedly switched off the area lights and demolished the five-foot-high wall. The representative of the developer hasn't respond to TOI's query on the allegations by residents. Calling this act a "blatant disregard for govt orders and police administration", residents on Monday sought immediate intervention from the district administration to ensure the construction of the boundary wall, citing safety concerns for 923 families living in the society. RWA general secretary Shailender Gupta said, "We waited for months for the developer to act on an order issued by department of town and country planning ( DTCP ). We even agreed to wait until a meeting could be held in the SDM's presence, as assured by the SHO. Instead of waiting, the developer acted unilaterally at night." RWA president of the society Pradip Rahi said, "This is a complete disregard for the SDM's order and police assurance. Residents arranged for materials and labour worth Rs 1.5 lakh to construct the wall following the official DTP order in April after the developer failed to comply." "Earlier, the developer's team forcibly stopped the work and has now gone a step further by demolishing what was built. We have requested the district administration to help us construct the boundary wall as it is a matter of grave security risk," Rahi said. The boundary wall was being constructed along a disputed patch to block what residents say is an "unauthorised road" that exposes the society to trespassing and security threats. The move was followed by an incident of theft on June 1, when an intruder entered one of the flats and stole jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh. On June 7, around 200 residents came together and began the construction. However, an argument broke out between residents and the security and quick response team, who tried to halt the construction. Police intervened to calm the situation and assured that a resolution would be reached at a meeting with the SDM on Monday. This is an ongoing dispute since Dec last year when a probe by DTCP, initiated on complaints by the residents, found that the developer illegally created a passage by breaching the boundary wall and removing designated parking bays. A show-cause notice was issued in Jan, followed by restoration orders in Feb. The developer told authorities in Feb that the road was a temporary arrangement to aid internal connectivity and would be removed once alternate connectivity was ensured. In April, the department directed the developer to restore the wall. It also told the builder to shut down illegal access and remove encroachments on fire tender paths, calling them violations of norms. However, no action was taken.

16,000 smugglers jailed, 627 kg heroin seized; drug syndicates' financial backbone broken: Punjab police
The 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh' campaign has delivered a big jolt to the financial backbone of drug syndicates with Punjab Police freezing illegally acquired properties of 157 drug smugglers worth Rs 78.52 crore and recovering Rs 13.03 crore drug money in the first 100 days of the drive, police Monday said. Since the launch of the drive on March 1, Punjab Police has arrested over 16,000 drug smugglers and seized 627 kg heroin. Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that Hawala network has been effectively disrupted with the arrest of as many as 48 big Hawala operators, resulting in recovery of Rs 13.03 crore drug money. The freezing of illegally acquired properties and seizure of drug money from arrested drug smugglers have given a substantial setback to the economic infrastructure of drug smugglers and their network, effectively disrupting their funding channels and undermining their operational capacity, he added. During 100 days of the campaign, the Special DGP said that Punjab Police has registered 9,693 FIRs and arrested 16,533 drug smugglers and recovered 627 kg heroin, 252 kg opium, 15 tonnes poppy husk, 9 kg charas, 264 kg ganja, 2.7 kg ICE, 2.6 kg cocaine and 26.51 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets from their possession. The Special DGP said that Punjab Police on Monday arrested 127 drug smugglers and recovered 4.1 kg heroin, 20 kg poppy husk and ?2.20 lakhs drug money from their possession. Over 200 police teams, comprising over 1400 police personnel, under the supervision of 90 gazetted officers have conducted raids at as many as 466 locations across the state leading to the registration of 99 FIRs, he said, while adding that police teams have also checked as many as 489 suspicious persons during the day long operation. Separately, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the anti-drug drive has transcended into a people's movement, with citizens providing information against drug traffickers. Cheema said the cabinet sub-committee, formed to monitor the anti-drug drive, took decisions to establish robust arrangements for the treatment of drug addicts. The decisions included the immediate recruitment of 200 psychologists on a temporary basis for six months, with the health department tasked to secure permanent recruitment in the interim. Additionally, psychiatrists will be empanelled across various districts as required, receiving Rs 3,000 for two hours daily to provide essential assistance to individuals striving to overcome addiction, Cheema said. The sub-committee has also directed the health department to submit a comprehensive proposal within a week for the recruitment of all necessary health staff.
