Russia, Ukraine Will Soon Start Talks On Ceasefire, Ending Conflict, Says Trump
WASHINGTON, May 20 (Bernama-TASS) -- Russia and Ukraine will soon begin talks on ceasing fire and ending the conflict, United States (US) President Donald Trump stated after his phone call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Russian News Agency (TASS) reported.
"Just completed my two hour call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. I believe it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations towards a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War," he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
"The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of. The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent," he added.

MOSCOW / ISTANBUL: A senior Russian official said on Sunday that Moscow has received Ukraine's draft memorandum outlining a possible peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. Putin's adviser, Vladimir Medinsky, who would head the Russian delegation during peace talks in Istanbul on Monday, told Russia Today that the document was submitted in both Ukrainian and English languages. 'The Russian delegation previously received a version of the memorandum concerning a peaceful resolution from Ukraine,' Medinsky said. He added that the language of the document was not an issue and noted that key points had already appeared in Western media. Medinsky also said Russia would announce its stance on the Ukraine issue on Monday. On Sunday, Ukraine's president said that his government will strive to achieve 'at least some progress on the path toward peace' during talks set to take place in Istanbul, despite not receiving any ceasefire memorandum from Russia.

Russia says shot down 162 Ukrainian drones overnight
MOSCOW: Russia intercepted 162 Ukrainian drones overnight, the Russian defence ministry said on Monday, hours before Kyiv and Moscow were to start a second round of direct talks in Turkey. 'Air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 162 Ukrainian drones' between 1710 GMT and 2300 GMT on Sunday, the ministry said in a statement. The majority of the drones were shot down over regions bordering Ukraine, with 57 intercepted over the Kursk region and 31 over the Belgorod region, it said. The barrage came hours before Ukrainian and Russian delegations were to sit down for talks in Istanbul, the second round of direct talks between the two sides since the weeks after Moscow sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022. It also came a day after Kyiv said it carried out one of its most brazen and successful attacks on Russian soil, hitting dozens of strategic bombers parked at airbases deep inside Russia, thousands of kilometres behind the frontline.
