She said in an interview with Filmybeat, "Main Sharmila Tagore ko mili hi nahi hu. Aap bechari Sharmila aur Mumtaz ke peeche joh pade hai. I want to ask everyone who wrote these things that aapko aisa kaunsa mauqa mila tha jisse aapko lagaa unki banti nahi thi. Whenever we meet, we say, 'Hello How are you?' Main jaati nahi hu har party mein.

When asked about the one the thing she learnt from her and when asked about her incomplete love story, Mumtaz said, "I don't blame Yusuf Sahab also, she was dying. Pyaar mohabbat toh kitne logon ke saath hota hai but zaruri nahi ke unse shadi ho jaaye. Uss wakhat heart problem ka koi solution nahi tha."
She added, "Main bohot chhoti thi toh kya seekhti. Magar itna zaroor unhone kahaa tha. Zindagi mein sabse buri cheez hoti hai woh mohabbat hoti hai.
Karo par itna na karo ke bechain ho jaao. Chhodne ki bhi taakat honi chahiye. She told me to be careful. Pyaar karo ek hadd mein karo warna dukh hota hai. (She told me not to love someone so much that you cannot stay without that. Love is a bad thing. You should also have the capability to leave someone if need be).
