Before becoming his Begum, Sharmila Tagore had ONE condition for the Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan
Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had a unique love story. Their romance began at a party. Pataudi proposed, but Tagore set a condition. She asked him to hit three sixes in a row. He did it and she agreed to marry him. Their interfaith marriage faced challenges. Both families had strong traditions. Before she became the Begum of Pataudi, Sharmila Tagore added a touch of drama to her real-life love story—one that could rival any Bollywood script. At the peak of her stardom in the 1960s, her romance with India's cricketing heartthrob Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was already making headlines. But what many don't know is that before agreeing to marry the Nawab, Sharmila set a lighthearted yet bold condition—one that involved cricket, of course. What followed was a charming blend of romance, sportsmanship, and tradition-defying love. A match made at an after-match party According to reports, Sharmila and Mansoor dated for quite some time before deciding to tie the knot. The two reportedly met through mutual friends at an after-match party in Delhi, which Sharmila attended after watching a game—despite not knowing much about cricket back then. Interestingly, Tiger Pataudi, too, hadn't seen many of her films. The proposal with a twist As their romance blossomed, Pataudi eventually proposed. But Sharmila added a playful twist: she would only say yes if he hit three consecutive sixes in his next match. Amused by the condition, he laughed it off—but rose to the challenge and delivered exactly that on the field. True to her word, Sharmila said yes, and the two went on to have a grand wedding, marking the beginning of one of India's most iconic love stories. The veteran actress also reflected on the challenges she faced ahead of her marriage to Pataudi. Being an interfaith couple in the 1960s came with its share of scrutiny. She noted that both her family and Pataudi's came from strong cultural traditions—while her relatives had all married within the Bengali community, his family had followed the norms of their own circle. Keeping It simple despite the buzz Sharmila revealed that they simply informed their families of their decision to marry, without anticipating the deeper concerns it might stir. At the time, she was immersed in her film career, and Pataudi was busy with cricket, so they remained largely unaware of the tensions happening behind the scenes.

NCLT allows Jagan's plea to cancel transfer of Saraswati Power shares
Jagan had sought the NCLT to cancel, annul and nullify the transfer of shares held by him and his wife in the company and sought reinstating their names in Saraswati Power and Industries Pvt. Ltd. Press Trust of India Hyderabad In a relief to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the NCLT on Tuesday allowed a petition filed by the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister seeking a direction to cancel the "illegal transfer" of shares held by him and his wife in a company to his sister YS Sharmila and their mother. In the petition filed on September 3, 2024, Jagan had sought the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Hyderabad bench to cancel, annul and nullify the transfer of shares held by him and his wife Bharathi in the company and sought reinstating their names in Saraswati Power and Industries Pvt. Ltd. "Jagan Mohan Reddy's petition has been allowed. We are waiting for the order copy. There are some directions also. The petition filed by Jagan Mohan Reddy contending that the transfer of shares in Saraswati Power has been allowed," the YSRCP chief's counsel Y Suryanarayana told PTI. When contacted, K Devi Prasanna Kumar, Sharmila's advocate said they will file an appeal against the order either in Appellate Tribunal or High Court. Jagan, Bharati and his mother Vijayamma hold about 74.26 lakh (29.88 per cent), 41 lakh ( 16.30 per cent) and 1.22 crore shares (48.99 per cent), respectively, in Saraswati Power, while the rest is with Classic Realty Pvt. Ltd. The former CM had moved the tribunal on the issue after his relations with Sharmila strained. She is presently the chief of the Andhra Pradesh Congress unit. In the petition, Jagan said he entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sharmila wherein he said "out of love and affection," he would transfer shares held by him and his wife in the company through a gift deed to his estranged sister, subject to pending cases in respect of some properties, including attachments by the Enforcement Directorate. The former CM said he intended to transfer the shares (Jagan's own property) in addition to Rs 200 crore that he, directly or through their mother, gave to his sister during the past decade. Jagan, in a letter to his sister, opined that the share transfer without fulfilling the legal obligations and clearance from court would potentially have adverse implications. He, however, expressed his desire to revoke the MoU, saying, both the siblings are no longer on the best of terms. "It is humbly submitted that to the utter shock and surprise of the petitioners, respondent No. 1 (Saraswati Power and Industries) company wide board resolution has transferred the entire shareholding of petitioners No. 1 and 2 (Jagan and Bharathi, respectively) in favour of respondent No. 2 (Sharmila) and the entire shareholding of petitioner number three (Classic Realty, owned by the family), herein in favour of respondent No. 3 (Vijayamma)," Jagan alleged in his petition. The YSRCP chief said Sharmila, without gratitude and regard to the well-being of her brother, conducted a series of actions that deeply hurt him and that she also made several untrue and false statements publicly. Due to actions by his sister, there is "no love left between the two siblings", and he decided not to proceed with his expression of intent to transfer the shares/properties as envisaged under the MoU and gift deed. After differences cropped up with his brother, Sharmila joined the Congress party in 2023 and was made the president of its AP unit. She unsuccessfully contested from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 general elections.

JIS Boosts Partnership Between Communities, Researchers
KUALA TERENGGANU, July 28 (Bernama) -- The implementation of the 2025 Eastern Zone Jejak Inovasi Sosial (JIS) programme has successfully fostered close collaboration between Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM), local communities, state governments, and academic researchers, said YIM chief executive officer Dr Sharmila Mohamed Salleh. She said the programme had achieved its objective of strengthening collaboration and gathering crucial input for the planning of more effective and targeted social innovation interventions in the future. According to her, the four main programmes under JIS, the Malaysia Social Innovation Initiative, MyIS Komuniti and MyIS Akar Umbi, Innovation Catalyst Volunteers (iCATS), and the Youth Innovative Challenge (YIC), enabled YIM to gain in-depth insights and conduct a comprehensive assessment of various social, economic, and environmental issues through the mapping of innovative products and social innovation talent in the eastern zone, notably around Kuala Terengganu. 'Among the highlights, the Eastern Zone JIS focused on issues and challenges faced by the fishing community in Terengganu. Throughout the engagement sessions, several key issues were identified, which will be analysed before being presented to the Subject Matter Expert Committee for assessment and proposed solutions. (These solutions) will then help determine potential innovations or technologies that can be replicated within the community. 'Therefore, feedback from all stakeholders and relevant parties is crucial, as social innovation stems from a deep understanding of the issues, challenges, and realities faced by communities,' she told reporters during the JIS programme held around Kuala Terengganu yesterday. Also present was Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim, who officiated at the highlight of the event, the flag-off ceremony for the YIM delegation vehicles for the Eastern Zone 2025 JIS. She said a student with the best innovative product will be selected to gain exposure and experience in technology and innovation at a university in Switzerland. APCC chief Sharmila slams AP MPs for silence on bifurcation issues, calls them puppets of BJP
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila Reddy launched a scathing attack on the State's 25 Lok Sabha MPs and 11 Rajya Sabha MPs, accusing them of failing to address key issues arising from the bifurcation. Sharmila alleged that MPs, regardless of party, were acting like 'puppets' of the BJP, prioritising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval over the State's interests. She alleged that they remained silent on critical unresolved promises, including the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. She slammed the Union government for not fulfilling its commitments, including granting national project status to Polavaram. She pointed out that the project was now reduced to a water storage scheme, citing the reduction of its height to cut costs by Rs 25,000 crore. She also mentioned lack of progress on the Kadapa Steel Plant and Dugarajapatnam Port. Targeting the State government's 'Super Six' schemes, she called the free bus travel for women a 'super flop' even before its commencement, citing limited to intra-district travel. She demanded statewide free travel for the women.
