Pembrokeshire locations that are some of the best for stargazing
The park authority is hosting a series of events which will reveal the wild edge of the park after dark.
From bats flickering through the cloisters of St Davids to stars rising over Manorbier, and galaxies unfolding inside a dome at Carew – each event will offer a different glimpse of what stirs once daylight fades.
Highlights include a twilight bat walk through St Davids on August 14, where you can join a ranger to explore the city's lanes and cathedral grounds using handheld detectors to track the bats.
Manorbier Youth Hostel will host an atmospheric evening of stargazing on August 24, with Preseli Astronomy Society leading short talks, hands-on astronomy and a closer look at the tools behind the telescope.
There will be two events at Carew Castle on August 27. High-resolution planetarium shows will offer an immersive look at the stars, constellations and stories of the night sky. And a bat walk led by an expert guide will give visitors the chance to explore the castle grounds after dark.
The final event is at Oriel y Parc on August 28 – a full-day celebration of dark skies including solar gazing, live talks, creative sessions and drop-in activities across the site. Visitors can also join a guided bat walk (advance booking essential), before a stargazing session led by Preseli Astronomy Society – weather permitting.

Talk-show host Piers Morgan appeared to backtrack his sentiments on what he said were Jake Paul's "staged" fights after Paul and his team threatened with legal action. Jake is welcome to come on Uncensored to discuss this, and verbally slug it out with me, anytime." Morgan shared TMZ's post that said he "retract[ed]" his initial sentiment, but Morgan replied, "Clarifies, not retracts." He also deleted the post. Paul wrote in a post on his Instagram Stories on Saturday. Morgan wrote that he was not sued. MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said on social media that Morgan can "count on" Bidarian suing him after the talk show host said the fights are "staged." "It's one thing to say, 'You're not a good boxer.' It's another thing to say, 'You fight older guys.' But when you say the fights are staged, aka rigged, then you're defaming us," Bidarian told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. "You are destructing value for his brand, for MVP's brand and what we stand for, which is integrity of sport. "You're actually attacking the California State Athletic Commission who oversaw this event (Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.). Then you're saying we're risking going to federal prison for putting on staged events. So enough is enough, we've been patient for a long time, and now it's time people either retract and admit they were wrong or go through with legal action." "Every single Jake Paul fight has been sanctioned by an athletic commission," Bidarian added. "Every single Jake Paul fight has had sports betting available on it. Every single Jake Paul fight has been with a large media partner. For someone to say that any of Jake's fights are anything other than professionally sanctioned fights with clear rules, is ridiculous." The calls about rigged fights grew loud after Paul fought Mike Tyson. At the time, Bidarian told Fox News Digital that it was all legitimate.

TV actor Ray Brooks dies aged 86
TV star Ray Brooks has died aged 86. The actor - whose career spanned five decades - passed away on Saturday (09.08.25) following a short illness. Brooks was, perhaps, best-known for narrating Mr Benn, the animated TV series that aired on the BBC in the 70s, while he also played a leading role in Cathy Come Home, the TV play directed by Ken Loach. In a statement, the actor's sons, Will and Tom, told the BBC that he he was best known for Mr Benn, "with people continually asking him to say the catchphrase 'as if by magic!'". They added: "Although only 13 episodes were made, they were repeated twice a year for 21 years." Brooks - who spent the last few years living with dementia - was also known for playing Robbie Box, the rogue gambler, in Big Deal, the BBC comedy drama series that aired between 1984 and 1986. What's more, Brooks is one of few actors to star in both EastEnders and Coronation Street. The late actor played Norman Philips on Coronation Street in the 60s, and he played Joe Macer - who murdered his wife Pauline Fowler - on EastEnders. In a post on X, EastEnders' official account said: "We are deeply saddened to hear that Ray Brooks has passed away. Ray will always be remembered fondly by everyone that worked with him at EastEnders. Our love and thoughts are with Ray's family and friends." Danny Baker, the veteran broadcaster, has also paid tribute to Brooks. Alongside a throwback image of Brooks, Danny wrote on X: "Ray Brooks in the landmark film, Cathy Come Home. "When I was young it was a sensation because it was shot round our way. "Here's Ray in Southwark Park with my school and estate in the background. "His excellent 1971 album is worth £££ too... "RIP mate. (sic)" Brooks' sons noted that he "shunned the limelight", despite his fame and success. They said: "His three true loves were family [he also had a daughter Emma, who died in 2003], Fulham Football Club, and spending time in Brighton, where he was born."
