Who won yesterday IPL match? Top highlights from MI vs PBKS Qualifier 2 clash

Mint2 days ago

Who won yesterday IPL match: Mumbai Indians' losing run at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad continues as the Hardik Pandya led franchise faced a five wicket defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Sunday. The defeat ended hopes of this being a redemption year for Hardik Pandya after the batter went through a tough time in the cash rich league last year. Meanwhile, Iyer - who believes he did not get enough credit for KKR's IPL win last year - will have an opportuntunity to lift the coveted trophy in successive years albeit with different teams.
For a while it looked like the rain gods may be stealing all the fun out of the PBKS vs MI match as it continued to drizzle in parts in Ahmedabad. As it turns out, the two hours of reserve time set aside by the BCCI came in handy as the match began at 9:45PM without a loss of overs.
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first after a shocking failure of his batting lineup in the last match. PBKS got the wicket of Rohit Sharma early in the innings as the batter got out within the 30 yard circle while trying to hit a big shot to Marcus Stoinis.
However, Jonny Bairstow was the danger man for MI as he smashed the PBKS bowlers all round the park and helped his side have a strong powerplay. Shortly after the 6 over mark, Bairstow was dismissed by Vyshak Vijay Kumar on a score of 38.
From there on, Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26 balls) and Tilak Varma (44 off 29 ball) led MI to a stable position from where they could accelerate in the last few overs when Naman Dhir (37 off 18 balls) took over and helped MI post over 200 runs in their 20 overs.
While chasing a total of 204 runs, PBKS lost the early wickets of their two operners Prabhsimran Singh (6 off 9 balls) and Priyansh Arya (20 off 10 balls) early, bringing Josh Inglis and Shreyas Iyer to the crease. Inglis straight away got in attacking mode and continued to maintain the scoring rate for PBKS while Iyer took a bit of time at the start. After Inglis' wicket, Iyer partnered up with Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29 balls) to take PBKS at a strong position in the match.
By the time Wadhera got out, PBKS were well in the game but Iyer (81 off 47 balls) stayed till the last ball to ensure that the victory did not spill from his grasps.

AB de Villiers asked to reveal what Virat Kohli whispered in his ears; Mr. 360 avoids a repeat of last year's blunder

A year ago, AB de Villiers blundered by disclosing personal information about Virat Kohli during one of his appearances on his YouTube channel. It made him regret as he acknowledged his "mistake." Having learnt from past experience, the former South Africa international chose to keep his chat with Kohli a secret when the two met right before the start of the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad. De Villiers has been part of the broadcasting unit of the IPL over the last few days, and, hence, was seen at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday for the final between RCB and the Punjab Kings. Seeing friend and former RCB teammate warming up before the final, he walked over to Kohli, and the two shared a hug before the latter was seen whispering something into his ears. Later, during the commentary through RCB's innings, De Villiers, who was part of the RCB unit the last time they played a final nine years back, was poked to disclose what Kohli told him during their emotional reunion. Still, the veteran batter did not reveal it. He said: "I'm not allowed to say what Kohli told me." After Kohli took a break from cricket at the start of 2024, skipping the home series against England, it sparked a wide range of speculations, with few experts even questioning its timing. In response to the critics, De Villiers, taking to his YouTube channel, revealed that he was away from national duty as he and his wife, Anushka Sharma, were expecting their second child. A few days later, he sharply retracted his statement, saying that he had 'made a big mistake.' Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar on the sidelines of the then-ongoing SA20 league in South Africa, he said: "Family comes first and then Cricket. I made a terrible mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all. Virat has every right to take a break from national duties due to family reasons. I think whatever's best for Virat's family, comes first. No one knows what's happening there, all I can do is wish him well. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he can come back stronger, better, and fresh from this." As it turned out, Kohli and Anushka did welcome their second child, a son named Akaay, on February 15, 2024. The couple had announced the news on social media.

IPL match today: Jitesh Sharma plays ABD-like scoop vs PBKS, RCB legend reacts

AB de Villiers was plenty impressed when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru legend saw Jitesh Sharma play a scoop shot to Kyle Jamieson's pace delivery in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday. The wicket-keeper batter attacked the Punjab Kings bowler soon after RCB lost Virat Kohli, leaving them at 131/4 with five overs to go. Jitesh Sharma led RCB's charge against Punjab, hitting two sixes off Jamieson. The first of the two maximums left Mr 360, AB de Villiers, impressed. The South African legend, who was sitting in the commentary box, was asked about the scoop shot when he said 'Sharma is on fire'. On the first delivery of the 17th over, Kyle Jamieson went with a short-ish delivery to Jitesh Sharma, who stayed in the line while scooping the ball for a six over the wicketkeeper's head. IPL 2025: RCB vs PBKS final live score 'He was already ready for the shot. This is intensity,' AB de Villiers immediately reacted. Sharma, however, was not done. He was again challenged with a short ball, which he deposited over long-off. The 31-year-old was ultimately dismissed for 24 off 10 deliveries as he swung hard at Vijaykumar Vyshak's length ball. The inside edge went onto the back thigh before disturbing the off stump.
