Mohamed Salah Condemns UEFA Over Silence on IOF Killing of Palestinian Footballer
The 41-year-old, known as the 'Palestinian Pele,' was shot dead on Wednesday when the IOF opened fire on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza, according to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA).
Obeid, born in Gaza, was married and the father of five. He captained the Palestinian national team and played 24 international matches, becoming a source of pride for a people under siege.
UEFA's post on X read: 'Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the 'Palestinian Pele'. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.' The message offered no mention of the IOF attack or the fact that he was targeted while unarmed.
Salah responded sharply: 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?'
The PFA reports that since the start of Israel's genocide on Gaza, 662 people from the sport and scouting sector have been killed, including 321 linked to football.
In the first weeks of the genocide, Salah urged world leaders to act to open humanitarian corridors into Gaza and 'prevent further slaughter of innocent souls.'
Recently, Israel's security cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to occupy Gaza City as part of their ongoing genocidal campaign.
In a statement early Friday, Netanyahu's office said the army would move to seize the city while claiming it would provide humanitarian aid to civilians forced outside combat areas.
For Palestinians, the plan means more massacres, more rubble, more graves. Hunger has already claimed nearly 200 lives as Israel seals Gaza's borders and turns starvation into a weapon of war.
Over 61,000 Palestinians are dead, entire families wiped from existence, and no one knows for sure how many remain trapped in Gaza amid a relentless and unchecked genocide that keeps raging on. Tags: Gazamohamed salahSouleiman al ObeidUEFAWar on Gaza

Real Madrid Stand Tall at Top of UEFA Rankings
Real Madrid continue to assert their dominance in European football, holding the number one spot in UEFA's club rankings ahead of the new season. The Spanish giants have long been synonymous with Champions League success, their record 15 titles putting them well ahead of any rival. UEFA's club rankings, which track performance over five seasons, highlight just how consistently the men in white have performed on the continental stage. Real Madrid are the top-ranked club. According to UEFA's official website, Real Madrid's points over the past four seasons read 30, 29, 34 and 24.5, bringing their total to 117.5 points heading into the upcoming campaign. Their nearest challengers are Bayern Munich with 108.25 points, followed by Inter Milan on 107.25. Barcelona are the highest-placed Spanish side after Real, sitting ninth with 83.25 points. Last season marked a relative low for Real, as they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Arsenal, the weakest contribution in their five-year tally. Los Blancos will now aim to return to their usual standard and push deeper in the Champions League next season. Tags: Real MadridUEFA champions league

Barcelona Move Fast to Sign Emerging African Talent
Barcelona are stepping up their scouting efforts in Africa, a region that has already produced several young prospects for the club. According to SPORT, the club plans to give 'maximum attention to the continent,' with a strategy aimed at identifying and signing emerging talent before rival European teams move in. The arrival of Joao Amaral as director of the scouting department has given the project fresh energy. Under his leadership, 'Operation Africa' is expected to operate at full pace. Mousa Kone, Barcelona's scout in the region, has been praised for his 'excellent work in identifying promising players.' Last season, the club brought four African teenagers into their youth academy: David Oduro, Aziz Issah, Ibrahim Diarra, and Hafiz Gariba, all aged 18. Several other players have also been tested at the Ciutat Esportiva in recent months. With financial resources limited and first-team registrations a challenge, Barcelona's strategy is to detect talent early. The club aims to complete signings before competition from England and France intensifies, as both countries have been active in scouting Africa. The approach offers lower transfer costs than buying fully developed players but carries risks. Signing young players means investing in potential rather than proven ability. These players must wait until they turn 18, the minimum age for non-EU signings, to fully join La Masia and complete their football education. Tags: AfricaBarcelonaDecoTalents

Barcelona Hit with UEFA Ban: Flick To Miss Opener
Barcelona will be without coach Hansi Flick and assistant Marcus Sorg for their opening Champions League match after UEFA handed both a one-game ban and a €20,000 fine. The sanction follows their conduct during last season's semi-final defeat to Inter Milan. Barcelona felt several key decisions, particularly in extra time, went against them and this prompted heated protests from Flick and Sorg both on the touchline and in the post-match press conference. UEFA cited breaches of its disciplinary rules, specifically Article 11, which demands respect, fairness and sportsmanship from all participants. The governing body said the pair had 'broken the general principles of conduct' and 'violated the basic rules of decent conduct.' Yamal and Raphinha were also sanctioned for 'failing to report immediately to the Doping Control Post' following the match. The good news for Barcelona is that both players escaped a match ban and were each fined €5,000 ($5,825). The Spanish giants will be eager to move on from their heartbreaking defeat at the San Siro. Barcelona believed they had secured a place in the Champions League final after Raphinha scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute, only to concede a stoppage-time equaliser and then Davide Frattesi's winner in extra time. The Catalans went on to claim a domestic treble, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Still, they have made clear that their ultimate aim is to bring European glory back to Catalonia. Flick's team will have their chance at redemption when the 2025–26 Champions League group stage kicks off in September, but they will have to do so without their manager on the touchline for the opening game.
